Good tip about the parking! Nothing like a brisk walk to start your royal tour. You can’t go wrong with a charming town as your base-Castle Acre sounds delightful! The fact that Sandringham’s rooms are modest yet elegant really highlights the charm of this royal residence. Listening to music in such a grand setting must have been an incredible experience.

It was more of a panicked run than a brisk walk!😅 No more trusting a GPS, the main carpark at Sandringham is near the entrance, the one the GPS sent us was the overlow carpark. The music in the Minister was a lovely surprise, it was a regular weekday concert.

When I woke up on the train we were pulling into Lugano. A beautiful sunny morning in the winter. It was like I'd gone to heaven after the horrific four hours in the hell hole of the Milano train station the previous night. Much like the droogs in "Clockwork Orange" those young Italian goons were terrorizing people just for the hell of it. Animals.

I had to google this place as I had not heard of it. I am not really one for lying on a beach but the old town looked pleasant enough. The long causeway from the direction of Aquileia also caught my eye as an interesting route to take. I am keen to get back to the area especially after seeing some of your videos as well as having watched the TV series "La Porta Rossa". Hope you have a great week.

Grado is very small but worth seeing as a day trip included with visiting Aquileia, it's quite scenic going across the lagoon. Grado was originally established in Roman times as the first port for ships heading up to Aquileia. I've not heard of the TV series 'La Porta Rossa' so I'll try and see if I can find it.

Beautiful island and a lovely beach. All beaches in the US too are public. But, sometimes the landowners can make it difficult to access them! The Basilica ruins were interesting to see. Would have loved to attend Mass in the slightly newer one! Beautiful tour amongst the canals. Thanks so much for showing us around.

The ruins of the basilica were interesting as they were only discovered in 1905 where the area was dug up to make the square, that's Europe for you! Dig a bit and you'll find the ruins of something even older! Mass in the St Eufemia church was really lovely as a male choir sang most of it until the end when the whole congregation sang the song about the fishermen of the sea, it was very moving.

Great informative tour, it looks so beautiful, I would love to ride that ferry, looks a lovely beach and nice that you can hire sun loungers 😃Loved the look around the streets, the buildings are adorable and I love the name Fish Market St :) the flowers outside of the houses were so pretty and I liked the canal area. The remains of the Basilica were good to see as well, so much history there and that 6th century church was beautiful that you attended mass at. This is a place that we as a family would love and your showed it off so well with your presentation and music 👍~ Anna

The sun lounge hire does amuse me once I found out you do it all online! You choose which beach, what type you want, with or without umbrella and there's even the more expensive cabanas on offer. Some people really do take their beach vacations seriously, we had to go to the public beach and just take a claim with our beach towels! It's very much a family beach holiday location, lots of people in Trieste own appartments in Grado they use for the summer months.

I only know about Grado as Trieste is my original hometown and Grado is a popular day trip. Or in my case during a heatwave, a place to stay in an airconditioned hotel! There's a few different beach towns between Venice and Trieste, I'll eventually get around to visiting a few different ones. From the UK, Ryanair fly to Trieste Airport and that's quite close to Grado, either by car or bus. The train only goes to Cervignano (one stop from the airport) . and then a bus to Grado. My mother, one of 8 kids, was born at Copperhouse 2 miles out from Burra, an original stage coach station from the late 1800's bought by my grandparents. Dad was a brick layer taking jobs around the State, mum with him, so I got to stay at Copperhouse on off the first 10 years of my life, some of the best times of my life, Grandpa, working in the burra copper mines at 14, spent much of his working life on the railways based at Burra. It was an impressive building, I've since read more about the Hall, after the distant cousin inherited he (in 1976) he found that the Hall was still heated by the fireplaces, there was no central heating and only a small percentage of the tenant farmhouses even had electricity! He had a lot of modernising to do, as impressive as the rooms were it was quite uncomfortable to live in them! Thanks for watching.

This was one of the first videos I made when Australia was still locked down so only had a tiny bit of footage and photos from previous visits to the castle. One thing I didn't show in the video which I think is really interesting is the World War II bunker. The castle was occupied by the Germans and they brought in forced labourers to dig through the cliff to create a bunker to place heavy artillery to protect their naval base at Sistiana. I'm going to revisit the castle and get some decent footage and make another video at some stage. The castle and grounds are quite small but well worth visiting. You can either drive to Duino and park in the village or take a local bus from Trieste, the bus stops right at the castle gate. The area around Trieste is particularly interesting to me at least as it's very non-Italian it still has its Austrian and Slovene background and that makes an interesting contrast to the rest of Italy.

Until I read Anne Glenconner's book I had never heard of Holkham Hall, she made it sound very homey and normal. It was kind of surprising to see how opulent it was! Seeing how far out the water was at Holkham beach really brought the message to check the tide times, I could see how easily people could put themselves in danger.

What a stunning estate with the Hall itself so beautifully furnished! I can remember riding my tricycle inside our home in a much more cluttered area, until objections arose! 🤣🤣It's amazing the family still lives there. It's kept up like a museum, but I guess they have staff to make sure it stays that way. We loved seeing it, the tour and the lovely gardens outside. Gorgeous beach! I enjoyed reading Lady Anne's book as it was all so domestic and normal to her, then I visited Holkham Hall and saw the rather impressive surroundings and I thought 'what a life!' Although the downside I read later was that the estate wasn't exactly modern, when the distant cousin inherited the estate (in the 1970s!) he was shocked to find out that there was no central heating (UK gets cold!) and rooms were kept warm by lighting fires in the fireplaces. It's a lot more modern now! We don't see the private wing where the family live, I always wonder with all this grand furniture around them, do they furnish their private area in much simpler manner, IKEA?!😀

It is and I liked the fact that the rooms are still used by the family, so the estate isn't a museum piece. It does mean though that's it's only open to visitors 3 days a week. Thanks for watching!

The Hall and the Walled Garden you pay to enter, but the grounds seem to be free to roam around. Just outside the North Gate is the village carpark and that's free to park in for 2 hours, so if you're up for a bit of a walk, it can be a cheap day out! Thanks for watching!

The difference in the tide at the beach is incredible, nice video.

I heard that it can be quite dangerous with people getting caught with the tide coming in. Thanks for watching!
