The Copper Coast of South Australia as Moonta Mines was the largest of the mine sites and on the way another example of Silo Art!

So there really is a "Loch Eel Monster!" 🤣🤣Beautiful tour of the area and your right about that being a gorgeous silo. We enjoyed the brief train ride and learning about the area's rich mining history and process. It's wonderful that they restored the mining cottages and we very much enjoyed the tour. Thanks so much for bringing us along!

It's a lovely area and very popular with school trips when we were learning about South Australian history. I'm sure I went a few times! It was interesting seeing the area after many years, the train trip was fun as I thought it would be full of small children. Instead it was all retirees (the parking lot was full of RVs!) and they were all out for a fun time, lots of banter with the train conductor!

Oops sorry, have just got around to replying to all my comments, this one is well over due! The nice thing about the little train was that I thought it would be full of small children, but rather it was full of all the retirees who travel around Australia in their caravans and RVs. And they were all out for a good time! It was a lot of fun!

Happy New Year, yes the Loch Eel Monster amused me, I thought it was made of car tyres but since found out that original one was stolen! (More Aussie humour?!) So the current one is made of fibre glass and I assume concreted in! The lake is a salt lake so you can walk out to it, no need for a boat!

I've never even heard of the book so I looked it up and see if I can find a copy to read. Moonta Mines is really well preserved so it does bring history to life when you visit it. Thanks for watching!

I think this silo art is one of my favourites, it's just really pretty. Not all silo art is to my taste art wise, but I appreciate the work that goes into it, especially the art on the huge concrete silos.

Hi, this was great to see, the copper mine history is really interesting and that lake with the Loch eel monster made from tyres is so funny. Interesting colour of the lake there too. Beautiful silo art, that you showed us and the railway looked fun to ride on. Hughes engine house looked so interesting as did the miners house restoration site.
    Have a wonderful Christmas :) ~ Anna

Sadly due to a corrupted SD card I lost the footage of the pink lake in its bright pink colour. The footage I showed was older and taken in autumn which is when the pink colouring is almost all gone. The lake is a salt lake and when it's got more water in it (spring time, Sept, Oct and Nov in Australia) an algae grows that creates the pink colour. It's really a freak of nature! Have a lovely Christmas.

@@theresabigwideworld2632 Yes I remember you saying you had a problem with the SD card and so couldn't show us the pink in all its brightness. You have a lovely Christmas too 🙂💞

Interesting area. I am a great fan of Cornish Pasties and it is always a delight to find them in mining areas across the world where Cornish miners took their expertise. The silo art looks good too.

Here in South Australia the 'pasty' is pretty much a staple of any bakery, they've gotten fancy now and there's quite a variety of fillings. It's also nostalgia food for anyone who attended school in the state as your hot food options from the school canteen (there are no dining halls or cafeterias in primary schools and rare in high school) were pie (meat pie) pasty or sausage roll (with or without sauce) Now the options are somewhat more varied, but the pies, pasties and sausage rolls are still there.

It's a very popular holiday location, Moonta also has a beach area which currently is full of holiday makers as it's summer here at the moment.
