Wee bit of a storm just rolled in..........hope the Obo not flooded!
Sitting having dinner, and the wind started to pickup quickly, went out to take the wheelie bin in, got after 10m and thought against it, as the spots of rain started, then all hell broke loose!
Hope not too much water got int eh observatory and the covers are keeping the water out the outdoor rigs. The CGX currently has the solar scope on it, and the CGX-L is scopeless as never put the Edge11 on it this time home, its fortunately in the observatory under wraps. The Rasa11 cover is off in the observatory, so hope the shutter stays in place!

    Very cool! I've been wanting to do one of these for a while too. I'm considering doing solar/battery power, but that may be for a version 2 ha. I noticed on your timelapse those green bars/lines were gone. That's interesting. It's also not been very clear here either, I haven't been able to do my solar/telescope streams, and I don't dare leave it out at night during the summer lol. Plus there isn't a lot in the summer sky for the limited clear patch of sky I have. Too many mature trees, but it does cut down on the cooling bill so I can't complain too much. Clear skies to all! Well, soon for some of us lol "Winter is coming!" 😂

    • @DavesAstrophotography
      @DavesAstrophotography 3 месяца назад

      Solar/Battery option would be good for putting remote and getting a full horizon to horizon view. I don't know what it is about those green bars, must be something in the processing. there a few niggles as I mentioned in the video, so maybe they will sort themself out once the official release comes out. Hopefully not long to wait.

    That's a pretty cool project! I've been considering building a GPS module for my 4se. Of course the stock celestron one would work fine in this case, but if I can build one it'd be a fraction of the cost. I'm just not sure if the protocol for the communications between the GPS and the nexstar chips is known. I'll have to dig into that and see if anyone else has done so. An added benefit of making a custom one is I could also have a small screen that could display the GPS info right at the scope without needing to go through menus to get to it. Although it's not often needed, for using my friends software, SatTraker, it does need the GPS coordinates to help with the maths to track I suppose.

    • @DavesAstrophotography
      @DavesAstrophotography 4 месяца назад

      should be easy enough to pull the serial protocol straight from the GPS module for parsing and displaying the details. never tried, but believe it is pretty standard. i did a quick search on google and appears to be plenty of HowTos

    • @DavesAstrophotography
      @DavesAstrophotography 6 месяцев назад

      Hi, this is a couple of years old now, and they have been revising the product over time, they have changed the electronics, they redesigned the shutter rails system a couple of times, so no idea what the current shipping version actually looks like! For a relatively low cost observatory I don't mind the tinkering. Reading various forums over the years, the various companies domes all have their quirks, unless you start getting into the more expensive ones.

  • @TheSplashingPirate
    @TheSplashingPirate 6 месяцев назад

    Thank you for your video. I've had my dome for months now and still can't get everything running together. I'm new to N.I.N.A. but it doesn't look like you are using that..not sure what APT means (so many acronyms!). The star program you are using looks like a Celestron something. This is where I'm stuck. How do I test the dome when I don't have that Celestron program to click on an object to have everything slew? My mind is boggled.

    • @DavesAstrophotography
      @DavesAstrophotography 6 месяцев назад

      Hi there, so things have moved on a bit since this video was made. APT is Astrophotography Tool, and I don't use that now and am just using Nina. The celestron app is CPWI and is how I interface between Nina and the Celestron mount. Anyway, the dome/telescope measurements are critical to getting things working, otherwise it won't stay synced for the full 360, you can set the measurements in Nina dome configuration. You can use a handset or Nina scope control plugin to slew the telescope to random positions to see if it stays in sync when testing.

    • @TheSplashingPirate
      @TheSplashingPirate 6 месяцев назад

      @@DavesAstrophotography thank you for your quick reply! Do you put your measurements only in Nina or do you put them in ASCOM-or both? After inputting into ASCOM as it looked like you did in your video, the dome kept slewing , 90° east and then it was slew back to the west and then to the east… Obviously, my calculations are still messed up. So, the question is, do I put the configurations only in Nina, only in ASCOM , or in both? Thank you for your help.

    • @DavesAstrophotography
      @DavesAstrophotography 6 месяцев назад

      If you are using Nina to control the dome, you don't need to use the ascom dome module.
