Sounds a bit like my problems sometimes......one simple enough issue grows into several problems one after another! My current issue is a USB-Serial (modbus) adaptor on my web server that despite there being a COM port visible and can connect there's no data......I have to disable the adaptor in Device Manager and re-enable again. Luckily it only happens (sometimes) when I close the COM port to update my AirCon software.
I use SONOFF S31 WiFi Smart Plug with Energy Monitoring so wouldn't have to splice into any cords. I have Tasmota loaded onto them and works really well with Home Assistant.
I had the Basic R2 to hand so used them, also used the 4 channel wireless switches for some of the other dc supplies, works well and integrates nicely with Home Assistant etc.
nice idea that said add a box of some kind on that strip connector for the mains edit nvm I should have watched further and I'd have saw the box over it haha
Hiya Dave . Question...with the BIOS set to "Restore on AC Power Loss'" , does the Laptop restore to the last opened screen or just the Logon page ? .Cheers ./SRK
Very nicely done, If only I had half your skills when it comes to these projects
Cheers NikNax, I guess an engineering apprenticeship and 30 years offshore helps!
Wow nice project you got! 🎉
Cheers, yeh, keeps me occupied!

Annoying when these things happen, you would think something as 'simple' as a comport which has been around for years, would be easy to implement.
