Tackling Vignetting on the RASA11 with the Baader UFC system

- Always had issues with heavy vignetting on the Rasa11 when using it with the supplied camera connection plate and my ASI2600MC camera.
Tried a couple of different attachments, but no success, and after doing some digging found a thread on Cloudy Nights which talked about this issue and recommending the Baader Universal Filter Changer (UFC) system to help with this.
To reach the necessary 72.8mm back focus, ordered up the necessary parts and here we are. The parts I used were:
2459126 - Rasa11 adapter plate
2459142 - 15mm extension
2459141 - 5mm extension
2459145 - 15-20mm Varilock extension
2459110 - Base Filter chamber
2459115 - T-2 Adapter
For the filters,
2459113 - unmounted 50.4mm filter slider
2459112 - 2" mounted filter slider
Using the Varilock extension, gives me flexibility to dial in the correct back focus, to compensate for filters etc.
I also purchased an unmounted 50.4mm UV/IR Cut filter to go into the unmounted slider, so that I didn't need to move my existing UV/IR cut filter between different telescopes. My Edge11 has the ZWO filter drawer so could leave my other mounted UV/IR cut filter for that setup.
The ZWO filter drawer assembly that is now 'spare' from my RASA setup will be moved to my Lunt LS80 setup which currently does not have any filter drawer system.

Beautiful image.
Hiya Dave . Well between you and James Lamb we are certainly treated very well with Spreadsheets , Charts , Powerpoints and PDF's . LOL . Thanks for all the extra effort to keep us educated. . /SRK
I'm nowhere near James territory, he's into PHD level presentations, I'm just at kindergarten 🤣
Another great video, showing how the end user has to "fix" their brand new scope.
They will have to release a V3 with all these changes!
Nice image Dave I do love my RASA but as mine is the version one it's a pain in the neck to lol. I'm using the Altair 26C which has the same sensor as the 2600MC pro but the camera itself has a smaller form factor which is better when stuck on the front. It does still suffer with vignetting more so using the IR cut filter but with the nebula boost filter it's not as bad for some reason. I am using the camera filter drawer then M48 thread to the RASA plate but I am thinking about going back to a four thirds sensor again as it were more forgiving in the corners plus vignetting should be vastly improved.
Yeh, dropping the camera size would certainly help, usually end up cropping a chunk of the image anyway, so less to crop!
Dave, thanks for this video! Glad to see this helped with the rasa11 vignetting issues. I still don't understand why Celeston hasn't created a m54 or bigger adapter. Question for ya.....how do you adjust tilt with this Baader kit as the camera tilt screws look like they are not accessible?
Have you seen this kit for Rasa 11?

It wouldn't be hard for Celestron to do, and it should be as standard given the issue. As for tilt plates, I have seen a few different tilt adjustment options, but not that one, The Baader UFC one is stupid price, can't see how they can justify almost 3 times the price of the Varilock, but at half the price of the Photon Cage, it starts to look not bad!. I have installed the setup I have as a starting point, then will look at tilting later on. Cheers for the info Bill!

Sure is!
@@DavesAstrophotography A question, please, is the regular C11 telescope good for astrophotography, because I cannot currently buy edge hd 11 .thank you very much
@@سبحانخالقالكون-ش3ز Hi there, No idea how big a difference there is between them, . The HD has the flat field, , so would still probably need to get a corrector for photography on the C11. Maybe a question to search for on the likes of Cloudy Nights site,.
