    Hi Kat, love your garden. This summer has been harsh, we have a grasshopper problem up here. You may have to pollinate the Eggplant by hand as they are hard to get going. Be careful as the flowers are very prickly, I rub my finger over the male and female part, I have had more success this way. Try and pull out those new Raspberry plants as soon as possible. I grow my raspberries in garbage bins and they do well. Those seeds in your mulch are Bindi seeds and they explode and have lots of tiny seeds inside. Take the plant into your Garden center as there is a Bindi spray that just kills these Bindis.

    The rain and humidity has been a challenge! I’m racing around spraying milk on all the squash plants for mildew now and they have only started fruiting. The curled leaves on the tomatoes may be too much humidity or water too. Your cornflowers are a beautiful colour. What a pain with your mulch tho! 🤦‍♀️

    You're wearing a jumper and we're sweltering in the heat and humidity. It's pouring down around us but not in Hervey Bay. Brisbane is flooding. Our garden has some plants that are booming and others that have up and died. I've pulled out a lot and deep mulched the beds and will rest them. Our best growing time is Autumn and Spring. I will get my seeds in by mid Feb to be planted out around Anzac Day.

      @@5acrefarm I was joking with you about pulling weeds Kat. I hate pulling weeds 😉 In fact, I have been known to weed with a lawn mower (or strimmer)😂 A word about the cabbage moth caterpillars - ask you partner to pull the plants that are infested and burn them. You don't want to leave them standing in the garden because they are covering your chips and soil with eggs. Once the plants are pulled and burned, cover the area with black plastic and let the sun cook the earth (solarizing). That's your best bet to reduce the dormant population because you don't have freezing temperatures to kill them off in winter. Hope that is useful 😊

    Hello darling , I was so glad to see a notification from you ❤ Great diversity in your patch . Look at all the pretty flowers , including the eggplant flowers . Very pretty. Pea asparagus? I'd better Google that. Our Mary Washington and sweet purple that I planted from seed and tried to die too many times , is finally growing. Still spindly but looking like it is happy now. I think I put those seeds in pots 3+ yrs ago , definitely going to appreciate them when we finally harvest. Lol. We are super mild chilli people here except my 2 adult sons love to add their assortment of liquid fire sauces to lots of meals 😅 haha. It's been such an unpredictable 2?🤷‍♀️ Yrs for weather. We never know what's going to do well or refuse to live here either. I think those weeds are burrs , dogs fur gets covered in them . Not nice at all. Great job turning them into a solution with weed tea. So lovely to see you. I hope you get baskets of beautiful eggplant, capsicum and tomatoes. Thank you for sharing, Naomi ❤❤

The Sweet Purple Asparagus will be stunning when you have a harvest. Do you know if they change colour when you cook them? I think it's the Purple Cauli that changes to white when you cook it, I wonder if the Pruple Asparagus is the same?? YES! Burrs, that's what they're called! Arrrgh, they're awful. It seems like a bit of a never-ending battle with them at the moment. We used the mulch all over the veggie patch and in the sitting garden 😖 Lovely to hear from you Naomi! We hope you and the fam are all well xxxx

    Oh yay Kat! Great to see you back on and wander around the garden virtually with you. Plenty going on there... and it's been an interesting growing season. Im still awaiting zucchini too. Your chillis are looking fab. Did you end up growing the korean chilli? So strange your cosmos are behind in flowering compared to ours, given we are growing with your seed too. I would have bet yours would be ahead with the warmer weather there. But they are looking so lush there. I bet they will go off soon and be stunning.

    • @5acrefarm
      @5acrefarm 7 месяцев назад

      Hehe, thanks Rach!! We’ve managed to harvest 2 tiny zucchini’s (because I was impatient) and 2 medium zucchini’s in the last few days! I’ve really missed them. We found it tough to find time to plant seeds so the Korean Chillies that we got from you will be started in the greenhouse in the next few months. The cosmos are all just from seed from last year that dropped, I think it wasn’t warm enough or wet enough for them but they’re slowly kicking off. It’s nice to be back filming 🥰 Big love and hugs to you 4 xxxx

      We really have had some strange weather! November was incredibly dry and everything was so brown and struggling. Then, we've had some consistent rain which made everything super green, filled our water tanks and the garden has flourished. Haha, irrational fears are the worst! I know it's ridiculous but I can't help it. It's definitely not an ideal irrational fear for someone who loves gardening or someone who works with kids. The children I work with often bring me bugs and caterpillars to look at 😳 Much love xxx

      Oh, your poor husband!! It’s bloody awful. The pain was so intense but they were sure it wasn’t cracked and I was told to try all of the different tooth pastes available but I also had to take Panadol and Nurofen 24/7 to slightly dull the pain. One of the things I really struggled with was thinking that my pain was just standard “sensitive tooth” pain. I didn’t tell many people because I know there’s so many that suffer from sensitive teeth; and who was I to complain about a “sensitive tooth”. I’m so much happier and relaxed now with the tooth gone. I hope your husband is the same 😁
