    I do the same with my little carrots that I thinned out, they are delicous and shouldn't be wasted. You have so much growing in your garden, it's lovely to see how it's all going. Thankyou for sharing with us.

    Brilliant to have a nursery garden. You can do so much more if you keep a nursery garden. Do you plant from seed? I find planting tree/shrub seeds to be very rewarding. Two suggestions: Get a good sharp lightweight pruner that you can carry in a holster on your belt. Then you can do minor tree & shrub pruning as you walk about. It is not to early to begin some corrective pruning with your trees and shrubs. Much more efficient than trying to remember. Second are two organic treatments for insects and disease. Looks like you had/have some aphid type infestations. Castile soap diluted with water will kill aphids. I saw something that appeared to be black spot (fungus disease) on some leaves. Dilute hydrogen peroxide in a pump spray will stop the spread of fungal disease. There are good RUclipss on both organic treatments. Happy Gardening! 😊

    • @5acrefarm
      @5acrefarm  Год назад +2

      Steven Johnstonbaugh, you have given us so many amazing tips!! Great job on spotting the blackspot! It's a serious issue here. Nearly every tree is infected on the whole 5 acres 😳 We're working on the treatment but, geez, it's a massive job. We'll get there, though.
      Thank you so much for your comment, I'll reply properly soon! Kat :)

Sharing with like minded people around the world is a blessing for me 😊 Here's a RUclips about fungal disease and hydrogen peroxide. ruclips.net/video/LZgcFKfXJ-0/видео.html This fellow has created many videos concerning organic fungal and insecticidal control in your garden. Hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, castile soap with peppermint oil - all very inexpensive commodities. I hope you find his channel helpful Cheers!

    Thanks for another great tour of your property. Luv the amazing tree cover you have. Have to say your pumpkin looks better than mine and bigger ha ha. Our pear trees bloomed late and pears are trying to grow but the increased frost will put an end to that. You have so many projects on the go, I envy your energy 😁🤩

    Unknown citrus looks like my lime? Being citrus with shallow roots you may find lots of competition from kikuyu. Your fruit trees are looking great. Apples will lose leaves in winterand go dormant, though my young one is confused, its dropped leaves AND flowered 😂

    • @5acrefarm
      @5acrefarm  Год назад +1

      Ooooo, I wonder if it's a lime! I'm so excited to learn what kind of citrus it is!
      The kikuyu has been such a pain! It ruined our first veggie patch and I'm forever pulling it away from the trees in the orchard. Oh-well, we'll get there :)
      Fruit trees seem so confused at the moment. I never thought I'd see an apple tree dropping leaves then growing new leaves and flowering weeks before winter 😂 It will be interesting to see how they go over the next few years.

    Hi Kat, great tour around the garden 😀
    We have our sweet potatoes in the greenhouse, where we have grown them for many years. But I was super interested to see you have yours in the ground outside. How do you go with them surviving outside in Vic winter?

    • @5acrefarm
      @5acrefarm  Год назад +2

      This is the first year that we've had sweet potatoes growing! I'll need to cover them from frosts but I'm so keen to see how they go. I'll be getting some slips to pop in the green house to make sure they can keep growing when it warms up xx

    Orchard loojs good Kat. Dumb question did you plant them in any permaculture method other then utilizing swales?
    Garden winding down but looks like you had tons of success!!
    Cheers J&C 🌱👍

    • @5acrefarm
      @5acrefarm  Год назад +2

      Haha, I don't think there's any dumb questions when it comes to gardening! Some things work for some and won't work for others!
      The orchard is not planted on contour, we just thought we'd put the trees in spots we thought would look good and help create a nice sitting area when they've grown bigger.
      We've done the swales, planted our veggie patches on contour, use chop and drop when we can, tried to improve the soil and probably a few other things I can't think of at the moment, but we've also done things that don't really follow the permaculture method. We're still very much in the "experimenting" phase (which will probably last many more years 😂).
