Thank you for the tour Kat. Given the amount of leaf drop you have already (very good condition for building soil) it's a good idea to carry a long handled round shovel or pitchfork along on these tours. Pick the tool of your preference and scoop out the leaf blockages out of your swales as you go. Just toss the organic debris onto the downslope side of the berm. At the driveway runoff to the lake; Fill up that erosion gutter with fist size stone to slow the flow of water so the water is not digging a gully. 😊
Just found this vlog that I haven’t seen before. Interesting to see the swales working. Hardly and fejoas left on my tree now so it will be a long wait till next year. Love xxxooo
Your swales ate looking great. We have started swales here , at the moment though they are basically just the berm while we figured out how to prevent all the erosion that was happening and stop our back yard and laundry flooding . Next step is to dig the actual swales then the fun part of planting out can begin. We are such newbies, just trying to figure it out as we go . Haha. Thank you for sharing lovely ❤
It really was so exciting hahaha! There’s nothing like making something and seeing it work so well, especially when it’s water being held on the property for longer than it would have been previously. I’m such a dork 🤣
Really enjoyed seeing the swales and your lovely property. So interesting. We had to put weeping tile all over underground to drain all the runoff from the cliffs behind. Those bird sounds are crazy! Quite the storm. I adore your sweet energy btw. Hope all is grand.
Awwwe, thank you so much! What a sweet comment 🥰 The cliffs behind you are incredible, they’re so striking. We have some amazing bird life here. The kookaburras (the ones that sound like they’re laughing) are one of my favourites!
Don't know much about Swales but enough to know they are really beneficial. Cool to see the apple trees benefiting from them. Will you add more vegetation over time or let it naturally "build up"? Storms are awesome!! Cheers 🌱👍
The swales much such a huge difference here! The water stays on the property for longer and the plants in the berms really benefit so well. We’re definitely going to plant more on them. We want to do a bunch of nut trees!
Living in englands north west i never thought i could be excited by a bit of water but i am tehe.
Haha, water here is SO precious!!

Wow, that storm was right above you guys.
Great to see that the dam has water and I bet you’re thankful for the tanks to be topped up.
A very impressive storm great to see the swales working xoxoxo ❤xoxoxo ❤
It was a pretty crazy morning! So much thunder and lightning and then a heap of rain in a short amount of time.

We sure did!! It was intense but only for a few hours! Luckily the power didn’t go out for too long so I could still make a coffee 🤣
@@5acrefarm Priorities 👌🤣
Love seeing some nice full swales!! Awesome guys 🙌
No advice on the fejoa, our last one died because of a 25kg furry bug called Dozer 😂
Hahahahaha, awwwe Dozer 🤣
