    For dolan, he needs to decide himself and fight for one position. Is he a winger, or is he a striker. Because that would determine his focus and how he should be developing. As for defenders I would see if liverpool would part with koumatio permanently, what he showed in his very little spell is he's a powerful defender which we lack, he's also a left sided player.

    • @bradleystirton6318

      With regards to ash phillips he's joined tottenham who have signed other 18/19 year olds who are playing first team football when ash is going to Plymouth whereas wharton gave us an extra 6 months and is now an international footballer.

      @callumrobinson4137 definetly, he's got bags of talent that he doesn't show consistently because he's trying to play 5 different positions. Keep him as an out and out winger for a season, and we could see a player of the year calibre player.

      In full agreement to keep him, as fans we show no loyalty towards players and we want them to show loyalty when they come good. Pears has been alright, he needs a stable back line and our defence was anything but stable including Hyam at times. He's still young for a keeper and certainly has potential.

    I was looking at the poll you guys ran a few weeks back on Twitter regarding Broughton, and thought the results were quite interesting. 64% of those who voted weren’t happy Broughton was leaving, 13% were happy and 24% didn’t know. I would imagine most people who voted don’t know weren’t specifically keen for Broughton to leave but were prepared to reserve overall judgement to see who might come in as a replacement. Which is fair enough. The most revealing part of the poll to me though was that only 13% were happy he was leaving. So basically, less than one in seven Rovers’ fans actively wanted Broughton out the door. I find this quite reassuring because in my view Broughton was not the problem at the football club and has just been used as a scapegoat by other parties on manoeuvres. As it stands, the club is in a weaker state without him. I’m happy to reserve complete judgement until we see who comes in as a replacement. But I also have concerns that the longer the wait goes on, the higher the possibility of there being no replacement at all. Or at least a replacement who is just being brought in to sit in Waggott’s pocket, rather than having a clear vision like Broughton did and the honesty to speak out when something goes wrong. By some individuals working at the club, Broughton was probably perceived as a danger. Because he was prepared to come and out and do lengthy interviews with the media on a semi-regular basis and shine more of a light on what was going on behind the scenes. He was honest. And I can think of a few individuals who would have hated this, because it increased the chances of their own shortcomings being highlighted to the fans and lead to some form of accountability, heaven forbid. On an unrelated note - in Broughton’s leaving statement that he posted on LinkedIn (which I thought was very classy by the way), I couldn’t help but notice there was no direct mention of Waggott. Curious. For the minority of fans out there who did want Broughton out the door, the only thing I would say to you is you have been misdirected in exactly the manner Waggott has intended. And this is part of the process that allows him to continue to cling onto his position even when serious errors are happening behind the scenes. Whether that’s chucking a Director of Football under the bus or turning up for a meeting with fans and bringing a handful of senior players to act as his own personal body armour. It’s never his fault, apparently. What are the chances ‘eh? Despite the number of things that have gone wrong behind the scenes in recent years, you’d have thought statistically Waggott would have to be at least partly responsible for some of them. But no, Teflon Steve strikes again. If it is true that Broughton left by mutual consent after a disagreement with Waggott, I would be willing to bet my bottom dollar on the fact that Broughton’s position would have been intelligent, realistic and progressive, and that Waggott’s position would have been the opposite of that. Broughton’s recruitment was a lot better than some select fans have given him credit for. Sure, there were a few misfires (as all clubs’ experience in the transfer market), but a good number landed and landed very well. I think overall he did quite impressively given the limited funds he had to work with. I think it’s also worth remembering that some loans are brought in to provide injury cover primarily, Koumetio being a prime example. He was not brought in with the intention of playing ten plus games for us (unless we got extremely unlucky on the injury front in the centre-back position). If we hadn’t have brought him in, sod’s law dictates we would have got further injuries to other defenders and been left completely short. Koumetio made one appearance for us against Newcastle where he ended up playing very well. So it’s not really fair to think of him as a flop. If he’d played at least ten games for us and was just rubbish, sure. But he was there to be provide cover when needed and on the one occasion he was required he did well against PL opposition. Broughton also instigated getting a lot of our current players on renewed contracts, an area which was in complete disarray before he joined. Again, some fans seem to have deleted this from their memory. I agree with the comment made by Richard in that under Broughton we were clearly recruiting for the philosophy rather than the manager, with the idea being that if the manager then had to leave we had a shortlist of replacements to come in and match the philosophy, which would be reflected in the players already held. I personally liked this strategy, but that seems to have gone out the window now.

    A big issue with attendance in my opinion is getting / parking near the ground. Due to the location of Ewood parking is very limited or expensive and the distance from the train station etc puts a lot of people off , especially if they are older or if they have small children who we as a club need to attract. I think a park and ride would make a big difference in getting more people down if it was cheap (none profit maybe) .

  • @richardhodge771

    We need a major rebuild. A new bk RB, a CB, CM, RW (maybe 2)ST (maybe 2) but Man United are the prime are example as to why you don’t let your managers choose the players because you get left with a squad of players from different managers different styles so we have to have DOF. You have to buy for a philosophy. Like klopps first summer he wanted Brandt but the club told him that salah that was better for his style and the rest is history. Buy to a philosophy not a manager. I agree GB was a scapegoat and I agree with Mark that he pushed out because they didn’t back his opinions signings etc. GB and JDT were the best thing that happened to rovers since being in the premier league and we fucked it up!

    How can you like Broughton Ennis Hirst Telalovic moran ayari koumentio whalsted piss poor come on lads shocking players shocking recruitment yes money wasn't available but I myself would of scouted better players on free transfers and loans

    • @3TRSH
      @3TRSH 4 месяца назад

      We made a £500k profit off Ennis, Moran has only just stepped into the men's game and was wildly over utilised, Ayari has something about him but wasn't going to be in the picture considering where we were at after he came in. Koumetio was wildly impressive in the Newcastle game, and seems like he came in with expectations to learn from the squad rather than help (think of him like another advertising board for the club) and Whalstedt has potential and still has that potential. He's quite literally only played in front of 100's of people before now and it's evident he is talented, he's just young and we could get a lot of longevity out of him. We can't judge Semir and Leo based on this year.

    For me Head coach and manger are completely different roles don’t understand why they are mould together now. Manager faces the press, picks the team, way we play and what players they want to bring in, head coach on the training field everyday delivering the style of play the mangers wants. The management at rovers is completely incompetent they don’t have a plan and don’t have the best interest of the club at heart, we will never see progress with these owners and it’s really that simple, they are happy with mediocrity

  • @unclejacksbluewhitearmy
    @unclejacksbluewhitearmy 4 месяца назад

    I quite liked Broughton and his long term view with player pathways. Unfortunately he had to get involved in the business mismanagement. He was big enough to say “the buck stops here”. It didn’t, the buck stops with Waggott and the owners. As for the ST. My lad and I pay just under £19 a game in the JWS for a game which will do for me. A good move motivating kids as they want shirts, hot dogs etc and when you look around the stands, it’s mainly older fans. We live in Merseyside and my son’s classmates, apart from the odd Toffee, are all Liverpool fans. Sadly none go to the match, with my son a regular live football attendee as a Rovers ST holder. Aged 7 the Rovers have got him and he is staunchly blue & white despite getting grief for it. If they can do this with kids who are not local like mine and Mike’s, what can the club do empowering the youngsters of East Lancashire. Hopefully this price point is the norm going forward. A player saying he will move if the money is right.....come on lads, biggest over reaction ever to this interview. Sure that is why most professional footballers move anywhere, just because they dont explicitly say it in an interview.

    Lets not get onto the goalies haha (i do think Wahlstedt has potential though) me personally i would struggle to give anyone a B or above other than Smodz. Theres only 5 players out of our squad come out with any credit this season and thats Smodz whos leaving, A Wharton whos left, Carter, Rankin-Costello & Tronstad. Massive work to do in summer...

    I can see a C for Moran but thats pushing it even with the goal involvements, Since November hes been very poor and shown his level - yet still managed to play 40odd games. He has give the ball away more than any other player in our entire squad. Not good enough to play 40 games in the championship, he will never play for Brighton. In future we should play our own young players. Ie. Gilsenan or Edmondson etc

    Got the ratings pretty spot on tbf lots of underwhelming seasons for too many players. Hopefully a blip of season and come back stronger. A pod idea: see you if you can get Scott Wharton on for an interview if at all possible. Whilst he’s injured he might be able to do it. Could ask about JDT, Eustace, Adam’s move etc

    This seems like a pretty fair assessment to me lads - there are a handful of players that I might have been tempted to bump up a level, purely on a benefit of the doubt basis. I do think some of our players have been held back from performing at their very best level this season due to chaotic management decisions outside of their control, and I think the club must take some responsibility for that. But I agree with the vast majority of the ratings - and certainly where you’ve graded each player in relation to one another, that’s pretty much spot-on I think. With Callum Brittain - I probably would have nudged him up to a B. He is a player that has a mistake in him, and this is probably why some fans are divided (e.g. the red card against Saints and the penalty he gave away against Stoke which Pears went onto save). But more often than not he’s solid enough in defence and excellent going forward. He officially has seven assists to his name this season in all competitions, but he should have one or two more recorded in my opinion. For some reason, the footballing authorities have decided that if an own goal is scored, no attacking player can officially be recorded with the assist. Which is ridiculous. When we played away at Ipswich for example, Brittain whipped the ball in on a sixpence for Leonard to tap-in, but Harry Clarke decided to go all Braveheart in the heat of the moment and stuck the ball in his own net out of desperation. Did Brittain get credited with an assist? Of course he didn’t. It’s a real bugbear of mine. When you consider that Fantasy Football will happily award players assist points for winning a penalty or creating a chance that results in an own goal (which is how it should be as far as I’m concerned), it really baffles me why the league officials can’t apply that same logic. If a player whips a ball into the box and a defender needs to stick it in their own net trying to prevent a certain goal for the attacking team, then the player providing the ball has assisted the goal. It’s as simple as that. So overall, I think Brittain should probably have eight or nine assists to his name this season. And that would have put him in and around the top ten for assists in the entire division. When you consider the quality of some of the players the parachute payment teams have had on display this season, that’s reasonably impressive. I think what holds Brittain back with some fans is that when he does make a mistake, it tends to be a high profile one that sticks in the memory. But if you go back and look at his performances on a game-by-game basis, he really is very good. And as an overall package, I think he’s shown himself to be an upgrade on Ryan Nyambe. Nyambe was solid defensively, but he used to get a nosebleed anytime he went past the halfway line. In contrast, when Brittain charges past the halfway line he gets an erection. He absolutely loves it. I should probably declare an interest here though - as a former winger / wing-back myself, perhaps I’m a little bit biased towards our wide players. You try to look out for your own. Plenty of fans might disagree with what I’ve said about Brittain, which is fair enough. But I do feel the lad is possibly a tad underrated. I think he’s one of the best signings we’ve made in the last five years if you look at what he cost, the amount that he’s played and the fact he’s only recently turned 26. And I would similarly credit Harry Pickering, who although being a more conservative player than Brittain has really established himself at Championship level and is the definition of consistent. Pickering is basically Dennis Irwin. A few years back we were having an absolute nightmare with both the left-back and right-back positions. But as it stands today - these are two of the positions I feel most confident about going forward. Pickering is first choice left-back, with Jake Batty and Georgie Gent competing as understudies. Brittain is first choice right-back, with JRC as back-up (who we know can do equally as good a job and can genuinely score a hat-trick from that position if he feels like it). Leo Duru is the understudy, and he will be pushing for involvement next season (the lad is brilliant). And if push comes to shove, Carter can cover at right-back in an emergency, as can Brittain cover at left-back if needs must. All good options - if I worked for our recruitment team, I would not be bothered in the slightest about scouting players for the left and right-back positions. We’re fine on this front. Focus your attention on everywhere else. If it wasn’t for the wealth of options we now have, I would have happily taken Ben Chrisene back on loan again. Clearly a decent player and a nice lad to boot. But I just don’t think we’d need him next season and it’s only fair that we start offering game time to Batty and Gent. Finally - thanks again to the three of you lads for the podcasts you’ve done this season. You’ve done a great job. The channel is becoming increasingly popular which is testament to the good work you’re doing. Hopefully a less stressful season awaits us next year, although I won’t hold my breath. I think a lot of fans have plenty that they want to say regarding Steve Waggott. A video for another day perhaps!

    I really hope Sigurdsson can take the next step next season. I really think he could be a real contributor for us. Personally don't see the fuss with S. Wharton (maybe the shine of his brother rubbing off on that rating?). And I may be in the minority but one thing I really liked about Ayari was that he seemed to be one of the few who played with an attitude (something we desperately lacked). Thanks for the amazing year!!

    Agree with most, would give Pears and F. John Buckley is just John Buckley, was always waaayyy overrated. He isn’t, wasn’t and never will be good enough if we want to compete in this league. One semi decent game every 12 is just not good enough and he’s always been the same Garrett has shown me absolutely nothing to suggest he will ever be anywhere near good enough either, simply not at the standard required for us and is never going to be. Leonard hasn’t shown me anything to suggest he’s going to be good enough to be our main goal threat either. None of those three are going to be good enough and we have to be honest with ourselves about our academy players when they’re not at the standard required. Travis is just about good enough, JRC is good enough, Wharton is good enough, those other three are not.

    Can't really disagree much with the ratings based on the individual expectations. The funny thing is that as a team we would probably put them all as an E.....it would have been an F but Szmodics pushed it up a place 😂

    Your argument with hyam kinda falls apart, last season he was the left hand side along side carter. For me, with hyam, it's who you partner him with. When he's next to Carter, hyam can focus on defending because Carter is the one who can bring the ball out of defence. Whereas Wharton is prone to mistakes in playing out of the back and lingering on the ball. Mcfazden was perfect for both hyam and Wharton because he talked them through games, and we made significantly fewer mistakes at the back with him in the team. The back 3 off Wharton mcfazden and carter/hyam would be a great back three depending on others who can get the ball forwards. But for a back 2, I'd keep a Wharton/hyam next to Carter. One defender and one more technical defender.

      I’ve said before, for me, last season Hyam’s first half of the season was much better than the second when he was moved to accommodate Carter. You’re right, who he plays with is also a massive factor.

      I agree Carter is head n shoulders the best and he can cover any mistakes from the others with his pace. Carter is a better foil for Hyam for this exact reason. Basically you need to play Hyam and McFadzean with one other with pace otherwise its a back 3 - for that reason im not sure wetha left or right it makes much difference. If he plays left of the defence he will get exposed at times because Pickering is sluggish and when he was right of the defence he was an absolute shambles nxt to Brittain. Them two are terrible nxt to each other. Loads of mistakes down that side. Hyam has gone from first name on team sheet to fans rather not see him play.
