    Thanks for the pod lads - it must be pretty difficult at the moment with the club literally being on a cliff-edge, but you continue to do it with grace and good humour.
    Mark has absolutely hit the nail on the head. Our survival is technically in our own hands, but it isn’t really. You can’t go into an away game against a Leicester City side - who have recently been crowned champions and have their tails firmly up - expecting anything other than a thumping. So if we do stay up, it’s because someone else will do us a favour.
    Forget about Wednesday. They are loving life currently and are absolutely flying, whilst Sunderland appear to have logged off some time ago. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if the team they put out on Saturday is just a selection of cardboard cut-outs plus Luke O'Nien who will run around trying to pull the opposition's shorts down for a laugh. Could see Wednesday ending the season with another thumping win. Fair play to them.
    So that leaves Birmingham and Plymouth.
    Birmingham host Norwich on the final day. There are two arguments here - on the one hand Norwich might be motivated to win because they want to finish 5th and avoid whichever team settles for third. Which would be helpful for us.
    However, the other argument is that whoever settles for third out of Ipswich and Leeds will be absolutely knackered and psychologically scarred. So over two legs, you might back yourself against them. And therefore Norwich might fancy their chances from 6th position and over two legs.
    David Wagner also has a history of resting players before an expected play-off campaign. He doesn’t tend to be bothered about where his team finishes in the play-off spots, just that they make the cut. On this basis, I don’t think we can rely on Norwich to do us a favour. I could easily see Birmingham edging this one.
    All roads lead to Plymouth - and more specifically - Liam Rosenior’s Hull City.
    At 12:30pm on Saturday, Hull City still have a chance of making the play-offs. Now it’s perfectly possible that West Brom come out and get an early goal or two against Preston. And that news could filter back to Hull. However, I don’t think they would even consider throwing the towel in.
    I’ve got a lot of time for Liam Rosenior, and I think he’ll keep his team honest to the hilt. It’s not dissimilar to our situation last year. We were behind at Millwall - and we knew at half-time that Preston weren’t going to be doing us any favours - but we still came out in the second half and blew them away. There was an anger to our performance, and I think it could be broadly the same principle for Hull. ‘Well if we can’t make the play-offs, you lot are going down for good measure’. And that might be what saves us, by the skin of our chinny chin chin.
    Final day predictions:
    Leicester v Blackburn - we get ourselves into an entertaining game of basketball and end up losing 4-2. Rumours of Vardy and Szmodics necking some WKD Blue’s in celebration at the end are unsubstantiated.
    Sunderland v Wednesday - bloodbath. Wednesday thump them into next week, which will happen to ironically fall on a Saturday.
    Birmingham v Norwich - tight game with a late Birmingham winner.
    Plymouth v Hull - I just think Hull will get something from this game. They might win, they might draw. But I don’t think they’ll lose. And that could well save our bacon.
    If the above plays out, I’d have Wednesday and Birmingham to leap-frog us whilst we sink to 21st position. And Plymouth take the hit.
    Whatever happens, it’s going to be an entertaining weekend. And by that I of course mean I will be sh*tting myself sideways.

    If Huddersfield had won against Birmingham we'd have been 99. 9 per cent safe, barring a massive goal swing. Weve had 2,chances to dig ourselves out of it, and couldn't do it. Its over the whole season, but I keep going back to the Millwall and Plymouth games at home. I went to the Brentford game, and thought we were safe. I can see the same thing again. I hope it doesn't. Whatever happens, a major overhaul in all departments is required. All the best.

    Tronstad and Travis. I want to see that next season. I think that partnership could work well for us.

    • @richardhodge771
      @richardhodge771 6 месяцев назад +1

      It’s a good midfield but who progress the ball up the pitch? With that midfield you have to bypass and go long. Travis is excellent at breaking up play but can only pass a pass 5 yards sideways or back. Tronstad is even better at ball recovery and decent passer but doesn’t exactly progress the ball forward

    • @blackburnendpod
      @blackburnendpod 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@richardhodge771unless you change to 4231 with an attacking midfielder that actually links play and true wingers as Ipswich have played this season. Way too adventurous for Eustace.

      Travis is a shoe in when he comes back. He screams of a John Eustace player. Only my opinion but we have missed him

    • @richardhodge771
      @richardhodge771 6 месяцев назад

      I understand what your both saying Mark and Chris. Travis does scream a eustace type player and I want travis back we’ve missed his shithousery and the rotation option.
      But if we go by what Gregg Broughton says there is DNA of a high press, attacking possession based football set by the club so surely Eustace will be tasked on putting a spin on that philosophy and to play the kind DNA football we’ve been told about you need someone to progress the ball forward. Travis and Tronstad don’t do that.
      This season was about survival next season is about implementing his ideas on the philosophy of the club and a midfielder has to be top of the shopping list and someone who can progress the ball forward

    Hopefully a win or a draw however not thag confident with Downing on the touchline. He has had a few caretaker spells in charge and has a terrible win percentage. Rather Johnson and Lowe got another chance after their Stoke success .
    Vital we stay up , as it will impact the local town massively financially if we go to league 1 and I imagine all our star players values will plummet. Sammy smodicz currently is worth 10 to 12 million . Relegated to league 1 and I'd say lucky to get 3 million .

    I got decimal odds of 20.8 on an acca a Rovers loss, Wednesday double chance draw/win, Plymouth win & Brum win. Much better than the straight 13.0 for relegation despite amounting to the same thing. Stuck £50 on it so best case scenario I lose fifty quid and Rovers stay up, worst case scenario is we go don't and I've got over a grand to drown my sorrows and put towards my season ticket next year

    I get the point the guy on the left is making, but the expression "in our hands" just means we have SOME direct control over it. It doesn't mean we get to decide what happens if we want something badly enough. No matter how unlikely you think it is that we can get a point against a Leicester team that turns up, it doesn't detract from the fact that the points Leicester get from the game is directly linked to how we play against them So it is "in our hands" in that sense. The term "in our hands" is a mathematical statement, it does not mean "we stay up if we just want it enough regardless of who we're playing" which is what you seem to be interpreting it as

    I dont know what to say other than i think we will be lucky to be playing championship football next season... due to other sides either drawing or losing because i think its inevitable we lose to Leicester, but hypothetically speaking if we do Win and Sam Gallagher grabs a brace 😉 are we giving him another season? Haha because that would then be 7 in all competitions plus 6 assists. Kind of swings the stats a bit more in his favour. For the record i think his time is up but its all about what we can go and pick up for 2 or 3 million quid. Because personally i dont think we will be spending much

    Great podcast lads, I've got to say the team has been very poor all season, it lacks experience ( leaders like you lads were saying) but I look at Ipswich town and their squad and I think we could afford a team like they have got, Wes Burns, Jayden Jackson and Connor Chaplin are all players we could have acquired, for me I'd let Sam Gallagher and Dolan go they've offered very little all season, also if we go down it's not the end of the world it's a chance to rebuild.

    • @blackburnendpod
      @blackburnendpod 6 месяцев назад +1

      They certainly are. The problem with relegation is the change in rules from FFP to P&S in league one, Ipswich actually played those rules quite a bit and used their massive attendences to offset more losses than they could in the championship. It’s also the start of the new sky deal, the difference in income for championship and league one teams is in danger of creating a similar gap between those leagues as the PL to champ. Most teams struggle when coming up from league 1 now. Ipswich have really used the financial rules to get around things, we wouldn’t have that luxury

    With regards to Gallagher, he's been a poor striker for us. His stature and presence should bring a lot to the game and should be a better version of Graham, but he can't seem to do it. I would've liked to have seen him deeper in more a no.10 role in the middle of the diamond with wingers on either side and a striker to nod the ball to while playing against midfielders rather than championship defenders but Its too late now and hopefully we can bring something in for him.
