    I will never trust Teac after another poster took apart their $500 turntable and found it had the EXACT same circuit board as cheaper offered products found on Amazon. Obviously built in the same factory using the same parts as Monoprice and several no name entry level products. P.S. I bought the new Uturn Orbit with the upgraded OA3 arm instead. I’ll take USA made products everyday of the week, I want my money to buy quality I can count on.

    Had one in the seventies, it 'worked' a bit, after a fashion, but was not a permanent solution. That other Milty product, Permastat was...my LPs from then - nearly fifty years ago - are still static free, and play in exactly the same condition as when they were treated. Used properly (scare stories are by people who didn't apply it correctly!) it'll protect your vinyl like nothing else.

    • @TheJoyofVinylRecords
      @TheJoyofVinylRecords День назад

      That's interesting. I never knew Milty once offered another product for static mitigation.

    • @rogerwebb7501
      @rogerwebb7501 День назад

      @@TheJoyofVinylRecords Yes, it was a spray applied to the surfaces....which for some rules it out from the start....but this one actually worked! I've tried others since - as Permastat was discontinued, oh, 20 years ago, I think - but none worked like this. Recently I managed to buy two complete kits from Holland....these should see me out! I have a very large vinyl collection (I used to own a record store) and wouldn't recommend it if it had any adverse effects to either disc or stylus...but one has to be meticulous in the procedure necessary to obtain good results.

    Bought the RT85, upgraded from U-turn Basic.. Sounds a lot Livelier! Clarity and separations, such a joy to listen too with my Vintage receivers (sansui, pioneer and marantz) my only minor complaint is the tone arm, it feels a little delicate(?) guessed I'm used with U-turns robust tone arm.

    I went from the Blue to the Bronze, and it was just an amazing experience. However, the jump from the Bronze to the LVB 250 was very underwhelming for me. I just couldn't hear $900 worth of difference. I returned the LVB 250 and went back to my Bronze. Maybe my setup just couldn't let the LVB 250 shine...

    • @TheJoyofVinylRecords
      @TheJoyofVinylRecords 2 дня назад

      I agree that the change from the bronze to the LVB250 wasn't as drastic. They do slightly different things - the bronze is a bit warmer and the LVB 250 a bit more detailed. It's definitely not a night and day experience.

Another mistake I've made a couple times is not check the label to see if its what's supposed to be the sleeve, I'd scan the condition and that's that. Oh and I'm new here, good stuff.

    Thanks for the video. My first problem is that I'm too energy conscious to own this amp. I know the environment, everything single thing we do relies on it and it's in trouble - big trouble. So I do everything I can not to leave any bigger a footprint on this planet than I need to. I also know electronics really well, it's been my life and career for over 60 years since I was a kid working in a radio/TV shop fixing the first transistor radios in the 60's. I have instruments that measure well above and below human hearing, thousands of times better than the human ear. I have never purchased a sophisticated electronic instrument where the manufacturer told me it has to run 100 hours before it worked right. So, exactly what is changing in 100 or 300 hours that this amp is recommended to run in. Can anyone give me that answer and can anyone measure it, because if you can't measure it, you can't hear it. The human ear, the cochlea simply is not that compliant and can not move that fast or that accurately. If break in actually occurred then it stands to reason that the it would continually change as it kept aging and you wouldn't reach a perfect point ad infinitum but would go past it to where the amp no longer sounded good! Basic common sense. Let's understand sound because audio equipment like any other electronic equipment is designed by engineers, they use the same Ohm's Law and the same Fourier Transforms as any other electronic equipment. The thing with sound is that we can make any sound we like, tubes, mosfets, etc. Nelson Pass sets up his second order harmonics with fets, personally I use tubes, they're fun to play with. The most accurate amplifier you can get today is class D, no other amp can compare with class D for accuracy, you get out what you put in. The reason this is good is because we can save tremendous energy by not running tubes that can double as room heaters or even the magonally efficient A/B. The audio equipment that creates all the sound manipulation is the preamp which uses very little energy, so if you have a class D amp fed by a preamp that modifies the signal you can save all the output tube expense and wasted energy AND you can do it without break in - it's not needed. So you might want to listen to some of the class D amps driven by tube preamps like the Billie Heaven 11 mkII and see if they fit your listening taste. I don't know they will, no one does but electronics is such a sophisticated field today that we can create any sound we like without ransoming the planet.

    I saw this review & wondered Teac & vinyl, what's going on? I had no idea they now had a turntable as well. Back in the day they were mainly known for tape decks. This unit looks very, very interesting, I currently have a Puffin phono preamplifier which I like because of some similar features to the Teac but, know thinking of trying this one out with my Technics & Nagaoka 200 cartridge. I am wondering on a different component subject than your channel if Teac is thinking on reentering the Reel to Reel market again since that is having a comeback & no one is selling new more affordable ones. I am glad I discovered your channel today, & will take a look at you other videos!

    i think unless youre a professional , you will not notice if its a bootleg most of the times unless you have both versions or saw it somewhere. they make so many different versions of vinyls these days thats its hard to say. they make vinyls with colors and sometimes many different colors for the same album. sometimes in a deluxe set. sometimes from another country. sometimes from different pressing company and with different quality. its very hard to know.

    My local record shop sells both new and used records. They have a bin for used records that were too damaged to sell at a higher price, all these records are $2 NZD. I bought a 3 records from the bin and all the records had small scratches that didn't effect playback or the recording itself. The only problem was sleeve damage which was fixable with a little bit of glue and chucking them in a sleeve held them together better. Very happy with my used record purchase.

  • @danielgeiger7739

    What are the differences to the Arid PS? -- Re demagnetization, I am a bit baffled. There are permanent magnets in moving magnet (!) or moving coil (=fixed magnets !) carts. Those should definitely NOT be demagnetized as otherwise there will be no more sound. The other metal in the cart is copper (maybe silver in expensive ones) in the coils. But neither copper nor silver can be permanently magnetized. Ditto for boron or diamond cantilever. So the question is, what except the intentional permanent magnets in the carts can get magnetized? I do use demag function on my scanning electron microscope (hysteresis removal) but there non-permanently magnetized iron cores are magnetized by electrical current, and after a while those iron cores can get slightly permanently magnetized, and that can have negative effects on the electron beam. So I wonder whether that TEAC demag is a solution in search of a non-existent problem.

    I've cut down my crate-digging to a few times a year, due to budget limits. As much as I love vinyl, I can't rewind the clock to the 90's and the 00's when new LPs were generally cheaper than CDs. It's been rough since RSD debuted and so many record labels began marketing vinyl as a "premium" format.

  • @Jeep_on_audio

    Some things I have to mention. 1 Price? It's not really budget priced so more geared to use with MC. So you really should test this with an MC. Difference between MM and MC input is usually quite big (hence you want the transformer). 2 demagnetizing is not advisable. Opinions are devided but not the least are advising against it (AJ vd Hul) 3 A rumble filter is silly in this price bracket. A decent TT bearing does not rumble. And whats the effect on phase coherence? I have the Gold Note PH10, same price but much more elegant. No mono or demag, but I dont use them anyway, I have a true mono MC on the second input.

    • @TheJoyofVinylRecords
      @TheJoyofVinylRecords 5 дней назад

      I'd love to have tried this with an MC - simply unable to do so financially at the moment. Can you point me to the AJ & Hul reference (would like to learn more).

    Teac cd players are becoming the talk of the town too. A company that's improved. I once heard a dramatic improvement from moving coil cartridge de-magnetizing at a store demonstration. Spatiality improvement was the most obvious thing. A.J. Van den hul, the famous moving coil cartridge maker says never to do that. Early benefits of demagnetization are outweighed by gradual degradation of your cartridge over time. That's his opinion. I'm the kind of guy that would do it anyway and if degradation eventually got noticeable, I'd get another cartridge. What a feature to have built in. I've been listening to a lot of Jazz Fusion lately. Here are some classic tracks you can hear on RUclips and elsewhere. Nuclear Burn - Brand X.....(Phil Collins jazz group while he was still with Genesis). Slow Body Poppin' - Billy Cobham The Introduction - Steve Morse Lakeshore Drive - Art Porter Lone Jack - Pat Metheny Friends And Strangers - Dave Grusin Slinky - Chick Corea

      I've been a fan of Steve Morse since his time with Deep Purple! Can't quite touch Ritchie Blackmore's tenure but still... Have you ever checked out Tommy Bolin - speaking of jazz fusion?

    • @sidesup8286
      @sidesup8286 5 дней назад

      Mainly a session player I suppose, Tommy is best known for being the guitarist on the Fusion album Spectrum by Billy Cobham, which is considered a classic. I bought a used lp of it which looked good, but sounded worse and I think I only listened to it once. I hadn't listened to Stevie Ray Vaughn in years and I played a cassette of one of his best albums and it refreshed my memory of how good he is. Tape has such a continuity to the sound that it complements his type of playing. I don't recall his cds that I've heard being mastered that well. For years I played the cassette of The Allman Brothers greatest hits instead of the cd, as it was obviously more natural sounding and mastered better. I don't think Decade (one of the best & most generous greatest hits compa ever) will ever be released on lp, unless they relleaae it as a double lp. There are so many great unknown electric guitarists in jazz and jazz fusion, that made a cd (geat ones too), and that was it.

    I have one of thous turntables bought it new very disappointed feedback, even without a record being played by just placing the stylus on the turntable weather, it was on a vinyl or onto the actual platter there was a feedback I trie to silence to no avail I am no newcomer to hi-fi equipment but I could not resolve this. Needless to say that this back in its box, out of sight and out of mind until you did your take on the same turntable that you loved. Unfortunately I don’t it’s a piece of rubbish and a complete waste of money. I won’t even give it away as I do not wish to offend any of my friends by give them a sub standard piece of hi-fi equipment it’s more like a lo-fi

    Why aren't people playing the music to showcase how it sound ? Yeah yeah copyright...play it for 10 seconds..I think you can for 30 seconds but I wouldn't even bother having a channel about audio stuff and then not showcasing.

    • @TheJoyofVinylRecords
      @TheJoyofVinylRecords 5 дней назад

      I wish I could and I agree. Unfortunately, even 10 seconds has closed down some channels. Some channels received 3 strikes for copyright, and had them shut down after endless hours of work. I'm hoping it changes at some point so creators can provide sound samples.

      @@TheJoyofVinylRecords Isn't there royalty free music ? I know this probably sounds stupid for records but if there's bluetooth then you could play some of that for sample. There's no comparison...how does this sound Teac sound ? It sounds great...it sounds as great as XYZ product. And XYZ product sounds as great as BYN product. But BYN product doesn't sound as great as Teac XXX. Since your audience probably doesn't know the sound of any...it's just empty words. And sample is just that sample...it gives a viewer an idea of how something sounds. And nothing is gonna change if people don't push for it. All some want is free stuff from companies..that's the only reason why they have channels.

    I was intrigued by this when I bought my TEAC TN-5BB turntable, but I didn't need an external phono pre-amp since my Yamaha A-S3200 integrated amp has a great one built in for MM & MC. But when I got my Willsenton R8 tube amp I needed one. With my TEAC table and Yamaha amp I could use balanced XLRs so I wanted that ability. The PE-505 was a little too big for where I have to fit it, so I went with a Pro-Ject DS3B instead. I can run the XLRs to the Yamaha and the RCAs to the Willsenton and switch between amps with the Pro-Ject, and I don't think you can do that with the TEAC. Besides that the DS3B is $800 compared to $2,100 so that helps. That said, I'd still like to have the TEAC.

    For about 50 years, I have wondered why audio gear manufacturers cannot get this one simple thing right. It's INFRASONIC, not subsonic. Subsonic means "slower than the speed of sound." Infrasonic means "below the range of human hearing."

      Then call it a rumble filter, that's even more accurate. Because that's what it's supposed to combat. But you're quite right.

    On the subect of high-output MC, I got one many years ago (an early gen Ultimo/Dynavector 10x), and I loved it. But I think that if you really want to fully get what MC is all about, you should go for a low-output one, as they have the lowest mass coils and should hopefully show MC resolution in the best light. (And yes, TRB are great!)
