    Thanks, Rick, glad you enjoy them. They are extremely musical and a great match with highly resolving amps. So they do work great with the TS120SE and for some strange reasons, their synergy with the TS A75 is very good. Yeah, truth is, you only need a lot of power to get high volume, but if you don't listen at high volume, 30w is way enough. Also, a big shout out the Dr. Viet the designer of these speakers.

      Is there room for improvement with these? Could you switch out the drivers for something higher-end?

    • @ThomasAndStereo
      @ThomasAndStereo 4 месяца назад

      @@stuartwiner7920 For me this is one type of sound that works. You can of course change the drivers but you will need to rework the crossover to give you a different sound.

      Thomas and Dr. Viet spent more than a few hours with an on-line simulator to arrive at the desired voicing for both these and the smaller sealed TS model. This is only one of many reviews since their introduction that speak to their musicality rather than just their performance in objective measurements. That said, it’d be interesting to see Erin put a pair through his Klippel set up.
      Upgrading your upstream gear, and more importantly your room would almost certainly deliver more “improvements”.

    Thanks🙏, Rick. It's always interesting for me to see what's happening on the other side of the pond. Very interesting how call it. Transmission line is what they call it. Nothing really new. But, it doesn't really matter either. The main thing is that your and listener's ears 👂👂make really great eyes 👀.
    I recently bought the small ones from our German manufacturer " Fischer & Fischer ". And they are also called "small", the German word for "klein".
    Fischer & Fischer makes loudspeakers from pure slate. Yes, from slate the rock. The great thing about them is that they don't vibrate at all. Zero point zero vibration on the housing.
    A bass as dry as the Nevada desert. I was told it's very dry there. Additional a silky-smooth dome tweeter, as is apparently also the case with here at the Galions. You can put a full glass of water on these speakers and play them at full volume. It won't overflow. If anything, the glass will shatter. The KLEIN speakers are also musical.
    I could well imagine that they would harmonise very well with your tube system.
    Please keep up the good work. Have a great weekend. May the music be with you. Servus from Bavaria.

    Thank you for the review!
    I got the smaller sibling, the TS Voyager, bamboo enclosure. They are for near-field listening and use them as desktop speakers while working, so they are just about 3 feet from my ears. I mainly listen at low volume, but sometimes at mid volume. Really enjoyable and definitely musical, especially after the break in period. I knew when I bought them they only go down to 80 Hz, which is fine for the low volumes, but miss the lower bass for mid-volume listening. So I added a small subwoofer, REL Tzerro m3. By no means a house shaker but it delivers and has made the listening experience fully enjoyable.
    With the transmission line speakers i don’t think I would have needed a sub, but the TL speakers would have been too big to place on my working desk. By the way, another reviewer also loved the TLs and thought they sound best with the half-foam plug.

    Sounds like an interesting speaker. Personally, I've become a fan of very high efficiency speakers that are lively. I've had my Zu DW speakers for about 3 years now, and I can't imagine changing to something else. I also prefer floor standers as opposed to bookshelf or stand mounts. I haven't heard a bookshelf speaker that could provide the same scale as a good floor stander. But this is why we have options. Not everyone likes the same thing. It seems like Thomas has a lot of great products to offer.

    This is something pretty unique if you think about it. When we buy a speaker from just about any company, we can't put a face to the product. A lot of us know Thomas from his videos, and he seems like the kind of guy who gives good advice and wouldn't want to sell us just anything. Not surprised that it seems to be a quality product.
    I do have speakers by certain companies, but what I also do is to substitute near world class midrange drivers into more modest 3 way speakers. I can't afford 30k speakers, but I do want at least a midrange that sounds like a 30k speaker's midrange. Good tweeters are cheap, I sometimes substitute a better one for the original.and I use a seperate sub which takes over around 100 hertz. I have to make sure that the substituted midrange & tweeters have sensitivity and impedence in the same ballpark as the more modest midranges that have been screwed out and sit unused in another room. It works out very well for me. The midrange is really where most of the music and magic is at. Sometimes someone I know well, asks me what loudspeakers do you use? I can honestly say, "I don't know." They're all kind of hybrids.

      One of these days I'll take the plunge and get into modding speakers and all. Haven't the guts to try yet 😂😂

    • @sidesup8286
      @sidesup8286 5 месяцев назад

      Sometimes the wires from the crossover have enough extra length that that if you put the midrange driver on top of the cabinet for maximum airiness, they'll reach. If not you can just twist some extra wire onto it. When you remove an original driver, it's not usually soldered at the driver end; just clips for easy disconnection.Places like Madisound will sell you any of a whole line of drivers from prestigious driver manufacturers. Their advice is supposed to be good. In your usual $8,000/pr. speaker, you do not get drivers as good as what places like that will sell you for $700; or about half of that used. I can't recall ever being sold a used driver that doesn't work. work.DIY people are nice people.

  • @danielgeiger7739

    Interesting. I have a special version of a TL speaker, a 1/4 wave Voight tube, as implemented in the Sibelius SG floor standing speakers; it needs a bit more length to accommodate bass waves of ~12 m wave length. A bit more sensitive at 87 dB (I think), and work perfectly fine with my 20W PassLabs pure class A amp. I wonder whether the power recommendation for the Gallion speaker is because of non-linear impedance = impedance dips at certain frequencies. I found a frequency response curve on Gallion website, but no frequency vs resistance graph. I am with you re volumes: 75 dB tops, frequently even lower. If my back of the envelope math is correct, with 84 dB sensitivity at 2 m (~8 ft) and SPL of 75 dB, we are talking 1/4 W range. Add a factor of 4 for irregular impedance/bass thuds, and you are at 1 W.
    Re thin cabinet, I can see the argument for a passive radiator, but those are typically round and mounted like a speaker. I wonder about nasty resonances at cabinet corners (similar to room corners) with such a thin-walled cabinet. The internal bracing for the TL set-up may help. The Sibelius are made from 1.5" solid oak.

    And then came the Monty Python skit....."you can use the phuphome, or you can use the haffome, or you can use knowphome!" I was rolling on the floor laughing!!! Oh, wait...I meant ROTFL! Anyway, seriously, a speaker doesn't need so many watts if they are QUALITY watts. We here in the audiophile community only listen to the most expensive QUALITY watts available, sending the very best vibrations available through QUALITY air, which we purchase from the most discriminating audiophile air shops, usually in 50 gallon bottles (highly compressed to deliver only the BEST listening atmosphere you can listen in. We even provide quality....wait...something

    They're too big for deskop. Anyway, they do something unusual with these, which is they tell you which drivers are installed. You can buy the tweeter for $40 and the midwoofer for $60. I appreciate the transparency, but I have to ask - would more pricy drivers make a difference? I feel like it's hard to buy when the components are sort of mid-level.
