DIY Motorcycle Luggage Rack #ducatiscrambler #desertsled #homemade #mototravel
I only wish that I was young enough and clever enough to be able to CNC this rather than approaching it like I did - the old fashioned way!
Still, I've got to admit that effort number 2 turned out pretty good considering. And I dare say that versions 3, 4, 5 etc would be better again as I learned about what works and what I do or do not need to include in the design.
There's no doubt in my mind that I'll be tackling this one again as I buy new/bigger luggage and move from bike to bike.
Even if you don't ride. Go make something. It's good for your mental health!

This is the cheap and cheerful JiaFour bag rack for the Ducati Scrambler. It isn't model specific in the description, but regardless I took a punt! Not as bling as something from the likes of SW Motech. But nor is it made so that you can only use it with luggage that is specific to that brand either. I do have an idea floating around in my 'ickle brain as to how I can 'improve' the design of th...

I was pretty much all set to pull the pin on the Cadgraphik decals. They'd been sitting in my bookmarks for nearly a year by the time that I went for one last look online just to make sure there wasn't anything new on offer. That's when I came across the latest Vulturbike offering. It's a lot less fussy and much less 'racy' than the Cadgraphik options. And to my eye at least, looks like it come...

I always aspire to be as honest as I possibly can be with my purchases. After all, everything that I use or put on my bikes is bought and paid for by myself. Would I have been happy to have paid £700 for this exhaust? NOPE! But £375? Yup! It's hard to tell on video, but the sound from the Termi is 'slightly' richer and more full. But if it's a noticeable lift in the bike's aural soundtrack that...

Nice little video rob. I’ll be honest, initial thoughts were the wing nut and flat head screw need to go for stainless button hex head screws and nylock nuts but you’ve left it like that for quick and easy removal! Looks good and in keeping with the bike! 👍👌😎
@@twistandgo3414 Cheers Chris. Yeah, it just makes it easier to get it off the bike if I'm not using it or giving the bike a good clean.
❤
Very good effort Rob, I’d be pleased with that , happy touring mate 👍🏼👌
@@wilswood8137 Thanks bud. Good enough to carry a flask of coffee and some sarnies at least 😂
I bet you have a Blue Peter badge,✌
@@digger8180 Nah! I was more into Take Hart "And now it's time for the gallery" 😁
Sorry mate, just had to stop the video at 2,20 and comment, 🤣 nearly spat my tea out laughing at your yellow pointy finger 🤣 brilliant, where did you get that from, I could have so mushy fun with one of those 🤣👌👍🏼
Hahaha! I bought it for a very worthwhile £2 in the Card Factory, Elgin High Street. Would you like me to see if they have any left? 😉
I just wanted to clarify: does this ( 0:55 ) mean red and blue are positive?
Hi @gwynned7235 Yes. You can't really go wrong. So long as your wiring loom still has the original plugs in situ you've nothing to worry about.
Does the Suomy helmet runs small or true to size?
True to my normal sizing @NeptuneBluez
Adventure Sled 👍
That's 'day trip sled' to you! 😁

Cheap at half the price! 😉👍
But I'd much prefer half the price 😉

What’s wrong with the rear tyre!?
Down to the wear indicators in the centre Chris. The edges are fine though 😉😂
NE Scot based in The Woodlands TX. Just picked up a 23 DS 3 weeks ago and really enjoying your videos. Using a 1100 standard seat for longer rides as it’s more comfortable than the standard seat. Only fitted the a EvoTech tail tidy so far as the bike had the combined stop/indicator tail light and the plate tucked under the seat. The 21-23 model year does not help with upgrades 😉. Looking at the throttle options and also the sprocket change. Good vid online showing the sprocket change and tube here in US. What jacket is that? Back in Aberdeenshire next week and looking forward to the drop in temp. Ride safe….
@Jewhiop Thanks for that. Appreciate it 😁 The jacket is by Held: www.fc-moto.de/epages/fcm.sf/?channable=02099069640031323933323434383535&ObjectPath=/Shops/10207048/Products/Held-San-Remo-Jacket/SubProducts/Held-San-Remo-Jacket-0004&Locale=en_GB&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwm_SzBhAsEiwAXE2Cv6L0PvOLJUvQuxSeouMrYhFyWjUa309td82pkjfYlMirrAG9zBNxoxoCi4AQAvD_BwE Very comfortable. Warm enough here for spring and autumn riding. Can get a bit stuffy on hot sunny days though as there's no ventilation. Has a built in water barrier which is okay for showers, but the outer jacket material acts like a sponge in heavy rain. I like it though. I may have a solution for the throttle. Someone with the same model year has been in touch. Might take a wee while for me to get around to it though. You've MUCH cooler weather waiting for you when home😂😂 😂
@@CampbellZeroOne Thanks for sharing this info. It’s a great looking jacket but likely not for the TX heat given what you mention and also the online review. The DS is a fantastic and addictive bike. I also don’t plan on off-roading it so the sprocket change will possibly be a 16t front to slightly drop the rpm. Next tires will likely be more road focused however the standard tires are very good on the road if a little noisy. A short rear rack also on the list however limited options given the 21-23 model year… Subscribed to the channel and looking forward to seeing your future videos especially given the fantastic views of NE Scotland….Also looking forward to the high 90’s to low 60’s temp drop next week….. Ride safe…
@@Jewhiop Have a look at the Dunlop Mutants. Keeps the look but also great for handling and easily deals with heavy rain. There's a review of them on my channel, albeit on a wee Svartpilen. But you'll get the idea. Thanks for the sub 👍🏻

That was fucking brilliant and spot on! I wish I had watched that before I bought new front breaks! Thanks for the belly laugh mate!
Glad that it helped to ease the pain a little Rick 😉
Thinking of getting one of those Ducati,s , what is that song , love it.
Hi Jamie. Yeah, it's a fun bike. Having fun fettling it at the moment. The song is called Train Ride by Alex Khem. I'm not sure if it's publicly available though. You'll need to try a Google search. I have an account with Epidemic Sound that I use to source all of the music for my videos and found it on there.
@@CampbellZeroOne thanks.

Aye, tee shirt should be arriving any day now 😉
Cracking day by the look of it 😎
It was perfect Gavin. No wind and the temperature was spot on whether we were on or off the bikes. Been absolutely $#!+€ ever since though 😂
Hi dude, were online in the uk can you order these tyres?
Pretty much anywhere Antonio. Any tyre supplier will be able to source them for you if you ask. Try here for starters: www.mytyres.co.uk/rshop/tyre/Dunlop/Mutant/150-60-ZR17-TL--66W--Rear-wheel--M-S-marking--M-C/R-439039 Here are your sizes: Front 110/70 17 Rear 150/60 17
I’m getting mine next week after 18 months with the awesome Multistrada V4s … couldn’t fault that bike but I’m not using it for its longer distance purpose and naked bikes have always been in my blood … thanks for your content 🙏
I'm sure that if it is just being used for short 'fun' journeys, you'll be more than satisfied with your purchase Dave. Getting out on the Streetfighter is always an event. Thanks for watching 👍🏻
Where did you get that bottom belly fairings?
Hi there. This video will explain everything to you: ruclips.net/video/ncWie8QFPdM/видео.htmlsi=Cxrfj2cdOusNLZtI
Great another list of things to worry about…get rear ended, crashing and being stranded on the road side with no fuel! No fuel gauge wtf!!!!!
Very nice Rob 👍🏼 Currently booking another visit to your beautiful country mate 🤣 book us in for some sunshine early sept .
If I had any input with the weather mate, I'd have sorted out something a bit better than we've got this week. What a waste of annual leave 🤦🏻♂️
That’s a shame, we are off next week, and are still hoping things will improve , at the moment it’s not looking great . Enjoy your rest mate , hopefully you’ll get out , at least you won’t have to mow the grass ( you’ve got a robot for that 😁🤣 posh bugger ) 😁👍
@wilswood8137 Valentino is the best investment I've ever made. He gives me so much extra free time through the summer months that he's paid for himself ten times over 🙂
@@CampbellZeroOne Valentino 🤣 46 ?
@@wilswood8137 Of course 😂👍🏼
Fingers crossed. That would be an added bonus!
Looks well. Very skillful. Protective too I'd imagine. 👍
How are they holding up?
Hi there JuneBug. If you watch this video from 2mins 35secs you'll see how they were doing after 3,000 miles :ruclips.net/video/YN4aNsT2iwI/видео.htmlsi=oyZdNf9LkSxAm-DK I did another 500 miles on them after that and they were still in pretty good shape apart from squaring off a little. In the end I had to change them ahead of schedule because I'm thinking about selling the bike.
Ducati Desert Sled UK Owners Club.
Sounds good to me Rob, I’m not mentioning doing a video about removing a baffle 🤣 👌
Soooo many smart-ar$es out there in RUclips land 😂
@@CampbellZeroOne yep sorry 😁👍🏼
@@wilswood8137 😂
Nicely shot. Beautiful scenery. Worth it if it sets the bike off, you could always do a video about removing the baffles 🤔👍😉
It would be easier and cheaper just to remove you from my subscribers list, eh! 😉😂
@@CampbellZeroOne Wouldn't be the first! I was being cancelled long before it became a thing! 💨💨💨💨💨 😂👍
@@CodgerBiker In all fairness, there isn't a baffle to remove. I think that the diameter and length of the twin pipes must be what is reducing the dB.
Not a lot of difference in sound between both silencers I do like the look of the stock silencer though is there much weight saving with the Termi
I'll save you from having to watch the previous fitment video John 😉😂 No! It's a good bit heavier than stock. But there's much more of it. The stock exhaust is just two short pipes and a thin bit of pressed metal shroud though. Unless (like me) you like the look of it, the Termi has no redeeming features other than getting itself up and out of the way if you plan to off-road or occasionally go through some water.
Did the exhaust make any noticeable difference?
Nil difference. It sounds a tiny bit nicer on idle. Looks better (to some) and is a little more practical if you do happen to go off-road or through water. Other than that, it's heavier and less practical if you are going to be carrying luggage at any point. I wouldn't pay full price for this exhaust. I only went for it because I found it for £375 instead of £700+ If I wanted the best sound per buck I think I'd go with a Leo Vince.
Amazing bike. You should make a video of how you do an oil change on the sled and a Desmo service yourself
So what you are really saying is that you want to watch me destroy a perfectly good motorcycle for your entertainment? 🤔😂😂
Do you mean throttle grip clearance? If this is the case, you can adjust it with the silver screw at the end of the throttle cable.
Hi Antonio. No, I was meaning the ratio of throttle roll to rpm. It feels as though you have to roll your wrist forwards and grab a lot of throttle in advance if you plan on going higher up the rev range. Well, compared to my other bikes it does at least. I guess that a smaller front sprocket would give me the feel that I'm looking for, but I need a work around for that pesky warning light first!
I just think these are great all-around tires... plan on touring? These will let you take the occasional dirt road or hit gravel on a road w/o causing a brown-pants moment and (I hear, have not been able to provide first-hand account of it myself, yet) work amazing in rainy conditions. Can say they work at lower temps however.
Yup. They are great in the rain for sure. Last pretty well too. I've been out wet -2⁰ roads during winter and had no issues with them.
Does it really help if you ride 90/100 mph 🤔🤔
Nope! 😂
Hi what mileage did you get? thanks.
Hi there @roadwarrior8560 In the end the rear was replaced at 3,500 miles/5,600km. It still had a little life left in it at that point and was mainly squared off. But I decided to put on a fresh Mutant as I'm going to be selling the bike. If you want to see what they were like at just over 3,000 miles watch this video from 2m 30secs: ruclips.net/video/YN4aNsT2iwI/видео.html I think I probably did another 300 miles or so on them after that before putting the bike away for winter.
when you are done can I have it pls lol
It's in the post 😉😂
I test ride this bike this past weekend and I was so in love with it that I completely overlooked that there is no fuel gauge! It’s completely mental to me that they would choose not to include it in a prestige bike like this. Other than that, it’s extremely likely to be my next bike in the next few weeks!😎👍
It's a fantastic bike for sure @BrandingBuff. But yes, it's pretty weird that in this day and age Ducati don't have the technology to work around this issue.
Thats was a perfect day for biking .Little wee gem that road .
Yeah, it was stunning from end to end mate.
Will there be pillion vids? Would like to see that 👍
I don't have any plans to at the moment, pal. That's 'our time' if you know what I mean.
Do you think you may have found your ‘forever’ bike?
Is there such a thing? I may have to do a video on that...
@@CampbellZeroOne Good idea. Well there was in my case, though I never knew it. MZ! 😂👍
@@CodgerBiker Crack on mate. It'll be well into next week before I can get on a bike again.
@@CampbellZeroOne Torrential rain, flooding here just now. 🌧️🌧️🌧️🌧️⛈️

Nice video, it makes me wanna go out for a spin and have good twist of a wrist:) What is that jacket you are wearing? It looks comfortable.
Thanks @cicerobg It's the Held San Remo jacket. Quite inexpensive. Nice and casual with a built in membrane which will cope with a shower, although the outer gets wet and heavy. If you stay somewhere hot the lack of vents may be a problem though. Very comfortable. These guys do a nice thorough breakdown of the jacket: ruclips.net/video/ObYVSMdyYHQ/видео.htmlsi=_Ufwe212F8r6aY6P

Great overview, looks like I'll be swapping my 401's Pirelli's for a set of these this summer. Cheers from Canada
Thanks Alex. Have fun!

Is this windscreen is not generating more noise on helmet now ?
The air doesn't come up that far Marek. It doesn't make a huge difference and really is only a fly screen to stop insects from collecting behind the instrument binnacle. If you want something for touring you'll need to go for something larger.
Thank you for the info. I’ve just fitted an usb socket and found it very helpful.
Thanks for taking the time to comment Martin. I appreciate it 🙏🏻
