Welcome to Kayla Quilts! I'm Kayla, your guide to all things quilting-from tips and tricks, piecing, and finishing quilts. Whether we're stitching up a memory quilt, diving into the art of collage, or tackling that pile of UFOs (unfinished projects, of course), it’s all about having fun and making something beautiful. Grab your favorite fabric, a cup of coffee (or wine), and let’s get quilting! Here, perfection is optional, but creativity is mandatory. Subscribe for tips, laughs, and a little quilting chaos!
I have been quilting for 10+ years, with many, many years watching my mother quilt before that. I am mostly self-taught, I have no 'professional' training. Just hours and hours of research and lots of trial and error. My goal is to make quilting more accessible to those who are interested but not ready to jump in. I swear it's not as hard as you think! It doesn't have to be an expensive hobby either!

I Broke The Seam Allowance Rule & How I Fixed It
I experimented with the 1/4 inch seam allowance rule so you don't have to. Have you ever wondered how important that 1/4 inch seam allowance rule really is? I intentionally pieced a quilt with an 1/8th inch seam allowance to see how it would come out of the wash, and to explain how I would fix busted seams.
Overall the 1/4 inch seam allowance is just as important as I thought it would be, but i was impressed with how little it fell apart after a heavy duty wash cycle (not that it wouldn't continue to fall apart with more snuggles and more washes.) For all my quilts that will be 'utility' I will continue to make sure that I use at least a scant 1/4 inch so they can get plenty of use!

Thank you for your truth! 💜
Thanks for sharing
Love this quilt! I’m fond of the cows nose holes ❤
Whoa - that’s dedication! It looks so great!
Amazing!!
Wow! I love this! Your Mom sounds like me 😂 Beautiful work on the stitching and everything ❤
What a wonderful find!! ❤
I just bought the magnetic bowl last week at HF!
Great job!
That's so so cute! The little cow turned out so great
Congratulations on getting this beautiful piece of art submitted! And thank you so much for showing us the process. My goal is to submit a quilt one day.
Use the words"less expensive". IT TRANSLATE BETTE!
I like “cheaper.”
Do you have to put your quilt up for sale for this show? Is it a Mancuso show, or other? Have you ever done a Hoffman Challenge? Good luck!
No, you don't have to sell it, but it can be listed for sale. The quilt show is put on by Quilts, Inc. I've never done a Hoffman challenge, maybe one day in the future though!
They have a magnet like that but with a half inch 3 inch and on it picks up all spilt pens a lot faster plus, you can run it across the carpet and it’ll pick up pins that you don’t see that you might not fine with that one. I like the gardening gloves at dollar tree a lot better or the ones in the automotive department. And they’re only a dollar and a quarter.
I bought a suction handle for my large rulers that were designed for quilters. It cost $18.00. The harbor freight option was much cheaper.
Looking great! Great job choosing to go for it!
Awesome, I’m excited to see the finished product👏👏👏❤️😀
Look at their carpet cutter blades. Some fit a 45mm rotary cutter and may be less expensive than rotary cutter replacement blades.
Great job bud ❤
This is so interactive I love this, and it’s a cool project!
Awesome to know these tips. I am a beginner quilter.
Brass wire wheel will clean it without damaging the iron
0000 steel wool
Thank you.
White sheet of paper, salt, iron on highest temp. Roll it around and you should see the salt change colors and then check the bottom . Wipe off when done. Salt will get on the holes once you're done steam it out. 🎉
Just use high grit sandpaper, a cheap palm sander, and water. Wet sanding takes paint of metal without scratching it, so it won't damage the iron. Plus, your arm won't get tired.
just use a stainless steel scrub...
Like maybe a pot scraper don't know what you call it in your country but the metal scrunchies that's used for pots 😂
Candle wax
Such a cute quilt!!
I love everything about this. Helping promote his creativity, protecting his identity, saving any earnings for him. This is what internet content with kiddos is supposed to look like. Thank u momma for sharing! ❤
Apply a paracetamol
Very wholesome, good job on censoring your child's face, I think that's the most responsible thing to do when posting things publicly
Love his idea!
The legs they are so cute
What are your thoughts on using polyester thread?

What great color choices! You have an artist there!
I love that you protected your kiddos identity. The quilt is incredible, and I’m so impressed that you have a 7 year old that is so interested in something you do.
