6 Strategies to Overcoming Sewing Burnout (Sewing Rut)
Have you ever sat at your sewing machine completely and utterly uninspired? Have you lost your motivation to sew? Is your sew-jo missing? You're not alone, I loose my sewing motivation more than I would care to admit.
What is your #1 tip to combating sewing burnout?
I often procrastinate on projects so bad that in order to meet a deadline I have to sew for too many hours straight for too many days in a row which causes some severe quilting burnout.

Hello Kayla! Burnout is present in every job and non of us is immune! ☝ Creators, artists are most affected. 4 years ago my arm and left hand were paralyzed for a cervical hernia (i'm a left-handed professional seamstress). So I had surgery on my neck and I had a pretty recovery but I no longer have that ability and control of the hand... When I have inspiration I'm in bad physical shape and when I'm in great shape my imagination fades 🤦‍♀ A painter friend of mine says:"the artist's curse is that you don't manage inspiration but it is inspiration that manages you..." I'm 50 y.o. I learned that when these "crises" come I have to regognize them, accept them and in the meantime take care of something else.Be patient and then everything will return to "normal",I will start again where I left off...💪🤣 You have a new subsciber, greetings from Italy 🙋‍♀

take it or leave it I think your nails are beautiful but your body may have got to the point where the chemicals they use are giving you an inflammation reaction. You can go your whole life doing something and then all of the sudden develop a reaction. I would try going all natural for a while and see if your hands don't feel better. I will keep you in my prayers!

The great advantage to a flat sheet with a low thread count for a backing is that its typically inexpensive. Of course as you pointed out, you can sew it!

I recently cannibalized/repurposed the high-loft polyfil stuffing from an old sleeping bag (that finally ripped apart after nearly 30 years of constant use) to make a large (85"x85") puff quilt.. I deconstructed the sleeping bag and put all the stuffing in a lightweight plastic bag. I weighed myself on a bathroom scale then weighed myself holding the bag of stuffing, subtracted to get the weight of the stuffing alone then divided by the number of individual puff/blocks in my quilt to determine how much stuffing to put in each puff. When it came time to stuff the puffs, I ripped tufts of fluff from the bag of stuffing and used a kitchen scale to weigh them so that each puff had a fairly consistent amount. Then I stuffed the puffs with tufts of fluff and sewed 'em up (Sheesh, try saying that ten times fast!) I entitled it "Owed to a Sleeping Bag" 😁

I’m with you on your estimate and thinking of how undervalued hand made creations are❗️Don’t forget the cost of your overhead, machine, cutting table, mats, scissors, rotary cutters, rulers, electricity. Not that you would break down those costs for each quilt but there should be an overhead cost added in. Great video❣️

I'm a newbie. Bought some fabrics and jelly rolls from Temu and Amazon, but also bought pre-loved duvet covers from charity shops, one of which I've used, as it's a pretty pastel mint green floral. Some might not agree, but I washed them, so not a problem and saves a lot of expense for a beginner like me. Love your videos 💞

I've almost finished my first quilt. Today I used a white sheet instead of batting, and recycled the front of a duvet cover for the backing and the binding. I now know after watching this very helpful video, that there's no point in my trying to do any quilting, so I'll just do basic in the ditch quilting in both directions. 💞

My mother and grandmother used to make quilts with old clothes and inside will be layers of old clothe fabrics, and they would be hand stitched. Very heavy but very warm and comfortable. It was truly a sustainable and affordable thing in he past, no one cared about the pretty patterns on the outside made with brand new fabrics.

I'm 72yrs old, born in Gatesville, TX., and I remember many times when my grandmother and mom had quilting bees. Some of the quilts looked like patch work, but many had a design. They drank coffee, tea, lemonade, and ate snacks while they chatted and sewed. The comforters were sure nice on those cold Texas nights, and with no central air and heat they were appreciated. My last two quilts were stolen from my car in 1971, and it broke my heart. I like quilting bees because on those days' we kids got some extra snacks. When I first moved to Florida, I read they had quilting bee classes at the University of Jacksonville, and I liked the idea of keeping the craft alive. Great way to get together, have fun, and make have a product. They made the quilts for themselves, and rotated the order, and some for charity. I've taken up too much time now. Just sharing.

I also keep my batting that is 5 inches or less however I use it for my string quilts. I use the batting with fabric on the back to make the string quilts then piece together to start a rag quilt. That way I also use up every bit of my leftover scrap fabric. I also keep all of my fabric that is 1 1/2 inches or more. I have a drawer for 1 1/2 inch strips of fabric and a box for my 1 1/2 inch squares. That way they're ready to use when I need them. Also do for other sizes of leftover fabric.
