Просмотров 18 тыс.Год назад

Because Nikon came out with firmware update 2.4 and 1.4 which promises - Improved eye-detection performance for Auto-area AF - Eye AF in video. So the question is: will this firmware update make the Nikon Z50’s autofocus as good as for example Canon’s R7/R10 bodies? Now let’s find if the autofocus really got better...

Excellent video 😮!
Thank you!
This is the video I been searching for
Glad to hear this :)
I really wish they would make a Z7III with the expeed 7 and the viewfinder from the Z6III. The Z8 is just too big and heavy if you need to hike long to location as a landscape photographer. Starlight is another addition that a new Z7III could benefit from.
Absolutely agree with you! And they could get rid of most of the high-end video features, most photographers never use them
Great video..thanks a lot. May I know that is it safe to hike up to Gellert Hill during night? And i am planning to only bring my 24-105 lens. Is it enough to have a great close up photo of the building from Gellert hill?thanks a lot..😊😊
Thank you! Yes, it's generally a safe area, even at night. However, the best part, from where you have the best view is fenced off because of construction. You can stand next to the fence, but there's literally a foot wide place where you can stand :)
@miklosmayerphoto thank you! Can't wait to visit Budapest.
RAW recording needs to be on lossless compression if you want your Mac to recognize them. Found out the hard way.
Thanks for the info!
Jó napot from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Köszönöm.
I guess Nikon did listen after all and solved the bug you mentioned :) At least I see the default option for movie picture control is "Same as photo settings"
Actually, this bug didn't exist at all, it was there all the time, I just didn't see it :)) But after posting the video people pointed that out in the comments, kudos for them :)
Auto ISO on my NIKON loved the video and ThanK YOU❤
You're welcome!
Great review! Thanks! I still struggle getting tack sharp focus on the eyes when shooting portraits with my r10 and the rf 35 1.8. Do you have any advice?
Hi, thank you! Maybe this video helps, where I show the most common reasons of not-sharp photos: ruclips.net/video/H2o2ZjaDQoc/видео.html If not, send me email, and I'm happy to have a look on your photos.
This is a good review. I have the Z50 and, for my needs, the autofocus works well enough in most cases. I don't generally focus on fast moving subjects, so my needs are pretty basic. The Z50 autofocus struggles, however, in low light. (I switch to manual focus and it works OK here). I'm happy to see the Z6 iii is more capable in this area.
I thought I saw a video of yours where you hate the auto-focusing? lol So the focusing is okay with firmware, or is it just cool because the firmware had an update for (non-human) animal eye focusing? (yes humans are animals too, we're mammals, like dogs, cats, elephants, bears, lions, etc...)
This video is 2 years older than the one where I show the firmware update. After that, the AF got much more reliable.
It's all about sales. They could have easily made the focusing better, but they didn't. They just want to throw out a mirrorless aps-c camera and knew people would buy it, because we're all gullible consumers. They let it sit on the market for a few years and now in 2024 they're going to come up with an upgrade and charge a premium for "better focusing". Capitalism at work. The above can be applied to all companies around the world with their products.
I don't think they could have made the focusing better, because when this camera came out (2019 Fall), the pro Nikon cameras had the exact same autofocus. But indeed, they should have a Z50 II by now, I agree with that. But I doubt it will happen, because the money is in the full-frame lineup-
Can I buy fx3 or z8 ?😢
If you have the money, sure
Hi is it normal for a slight buzzing noise to come from the ibis on the nikon z8
Yes, it's normal
I think you need a lot more knowledge to become a serious reviewer. I had the Z6 III for 2 weeks and discovered the AF handout feature which will allow the camera to focus on the eye after you remove the wide area box away.
Okay, and can you share it with us? What's the setting? Also, there may have been a firmware update since I published the video.
Nice. Thinking of this now as my Nikon Z6 1 has done its part
This lens is a real winner for portraits! The focal distance is great for close-ups. Adjusting the aperture is easy and it's just right for indoor light. It's heavy and that makes it feel really high-quality. Probably the best manual lens I've laid my hands on. The design is on point. The focusing and aperture rings are super smooth. Super sharp in the center even at f1.2.
For me, it's not ideal for portraits due to the manual focus, it puts a lot of stress on the photographer, if the subject is moving even a bit.
Has anyone shot videos with the Nikon Z8? What would you recommend? Can it be used for short and long wedding videos? What is the autofocus setting like? Is it as good as a Sony A7 R5 or a Canon EOS R5 Mark II? Many thanks in advance 🙏
Of course, it's very good for videos, has everything you want in a pro video camera. Autofocus works the same way as in photo mode.
Great job digging into the weeds! 📸😃👍
Thank you ;)
I have the very same camera but in time i will be able to get a better one over time.
Do you think that we should throw away our R10 cameras and to be able to buy something better ?
I would first invest in lenses. But buy those that are for full-frame sensor, so if you ever buy a full-frame camera (like the R8, which is very cheap), then you'll have good lenses already.
Your absolutely right, the starter canon camera is a toy. It is a beginners camera.
The high iso is for moving subjects ,not for still pictures, like motorcycles, snowmobile ,etc ,of course you can’t see the difference using it on still subjects !
High ISO is just high ISO, you can use it for anything. The noise that comes with it is the same on a still or moving subjects, so it can be tested on still subjects (in fact, that's the only way you can compare them)
Thank you for the good video❤
Thank you, glad you liked it!
This was a much more practical review of this lens than I've seen from any other channel!
Thank you so much, I try to be as practical as possible :)
Did the nikon z6iii is overhit during the video???
It didn't, but I was not testing its limits, I only used it in 4K, 8 bit
Hi Miklos, iam here in Budapest, are you still doing the night photography tour? Sam interested to join you...oct 6-7, 2024
Hi there, you can book me through my website: hungaryphototours.com/booking/
Late to the party but the tip on using video on Nikons is priceless. Thank you.
Thank you, glad to hear you like it :)))
Hi sir please help me selecting lens for my New nikon Z30 should I buy nikon 40mm F2 lens or viltrox Lens
Nikon 40mm F/2 is great, cheap and small and will be useable on full frame as well
on r10 it's need lens adapter or not? because i only find it with m mount not rf mount
I had the RF mount version of this lens, so there's no need for an adapter for the R10.
The price is still stupidly too high in Uk, Australia, Europe, Canada and New Zealand. Its not worth it, get the Z8 much better camera and better value when on sale .
In Hungary, they are discounting it quite much in these days. Still, quite expensive - it's because of its video qualities
Always enjoy your content. Keep up the good work
thank you so much!🙏
I like the 3D tracking modes in the older DSLRs, Full auto can be so fustrating at times.
This is one of the BEST tutorials about AV Mode, thanks Miklos!
Thank you, glad to hear it!
Good review well done 👍
Thank you! :)
Have you thought about or do you have a video using a manual setting, allowing you to set both aperture and shutter speed, then setting the ISO to auto? Then I can use my exposure compensation to get the proper exposure. I do this generally but sometimes it seems like I’m doing a few extra steps to get to the same point you are. Really good videos!
Hi, I don't have a video dedicated about Manual mode, but your comment made me realize I should have one! :)
Very good review hitting a lot of the new features and how to apply them. I bought my Z6III the first day it came out to replace the original Z6 due to the frustrating auto focus. This camera backs up my Z9 and I’m so happy I can just about set up both cameras the same so it’s seamless to go from one to another during an event. I really hope Nikon is listening to some of your suggestions cause you’re spot on. Gonna check some of your other videos now.
Thank you so much, it's great to hear that you liked my suggestions! Makes me feel a bit relaxed, because I often think I'm the only one saying them :)

Hi Miklos: thanks for another great video. As it turns out, I am shopping for an 85mm-equivalent lens for my ASPC Sony camera. Would it be reasonable to assume I would get similar performance for the E-mount (Sony) version of this product? Thanks also for the great evening photo session in Budapest last June.
Thank you so much Jim! It should have the exact same performance on a Sony APS-C sensor camera. Of course, there might be some slight fluctuations in the manufacturing process, but usually they have the same quality. Definitely worth the 180 USD.

I'm considering the Z50 because my D7500 broke down. A Z50 with FTZ adapter sounds like a good replacement. I like the smaller and cheaper lenses, what do you think? good choice still in 2024?
Z50 still a pretty good machine even in 2024. I don't know if Nikon will have a Z50 II
So Af still not as good as Sony?
Not as good, but getting better
I love this video in the next three months I want to but a camera For starters I need some advise on bran
To complicated for me
You're right, this video is from 2018. Now there are easier ways to make a timelapse
Fantastic review. Thank you for making this.
Thank you so much!
THANK YOU for this video!! I am quite honestly shocked by the dynamic range of these files! WOW! I had glossed over the Z5 as a viable option in the past, but with the improved autofocus upgrades, dual cards slots, a joystick, dynamic range being this good and it being less than $1,000 as of 09/10/24 - WOW! The ONLY caveat for me would be that video crop in 4K at 1.7 - that's pretty steep, but I've been used to Canon's crop sensors for video (1.6) - so not much difference. Thank you as well for offering the RAW files for download. The proof is in the pudding and these files are as close to my D810 in iso invariance as anything I've seen in mirrorless and I've seen a lot!
You could use a special L bracket from small rig or ulanzi, mount the Z50 on tripod and use the flip screen for vlogging or selfie videography, talking heads. To control yourself without the leg of a tripod in the way. Nikon has an advertisement back in the day with this grip plate. But nobody knows about it, and everyone wonders, why Nikon makes the flip screen in this way. As they were idiots...
They are of course not idiots, but there's a reason why the Z50 is almost the only camera on the market that has this downward-flipping screen. It's so unpractical - I know a specialised plate can solve it, but that's another inconvenience. If this was such a good design, they would have kept it for the Zf line and Z6 III
@@miklosmayerphoto the smallrig L braket for the Z50 is the same convenience as the smallrig grip for the zfc and zf who sells like hell. Nikon has bad marketing, who don't push the influencers with this L braket besides a small advertise video about this possibility, and therefore nobody knows about this easy way to use selfie mode on a tripod, at least not RUclips influencers. I find this braket only by a pro videographer. The flip up screen like some Sony cameras has the same problem, with the mikro, light, and so on, at the hotshoe. Same workaround there for selfie capabilities. You are one of the RUclipsrs with many in depth knowledge, but nobody is perfect. For example, I guess 50% of the Nikon RUclipsrs, who enters the RUclips scene after the launch of the Z6 or Zfc never heard before about the Nikon "Film Simulations" like fujifilm. Despite the fact, that Nikon had Film simulations aka picture control, since 12 years now. Back in the DSLR time. And now, some RUclipsrs tell us click Baiting: "Breaking News! Express! Nikon had also Film Simulations. What a great News!!!" A "news" who is 10 years old... 😉 As an example of how some RUclipsrs are mostly on the surface of a model or brand. BECAUSE the lack of in depth knowledge of a model form many RUclipsrs and reviewers AND the bad marketing of Nikon, we came in the situation that most of the reviewers don't knows anything about the concept of the tilt up or tilt down screen, and knows nothing about the possibility of use a simple L braket, who many landscapes photographers use all the time, and most of the reviewers tells the story about the dump Sony of Nikon brands, who construct bodys with this LCD Screens. And everybody who reads or see this, thinks, this LCD screens are unusable for vlogging and selfies, what bad cameras. And sells goes down, and Nikon and Sony released since than only flippy screens, because there marketing sucks nd most of the reviewers don't did there job to research better. That's very sad, and I though, you would thank me, and don't tell me, that this solution is stupid or inconvenience... It's the solution, many engineers with high salaries has thought it's a cost effective solution for beginners and enthusiast. With tripod or selfie stick for the enthusiast, without for absolute beginners who want to handheld a small setup.
For tip #7, I use the OK button, like you did in the tip for zooming in image review. Consistency...
Great video! We will be there next month and this was just the information I was looking for!
You're very welcome, have fun here
