Miklos first of all thank you for this review and the amount of in info you provide, but there is one thing that troubles me, its clear to me that that in the timeline between 3:02 - 3:24, the camera constantly front focuses to the upper part of her dress and the eye is not sharp at all, what troubles me more is that this happens with an rf usm lens at f/2,0. This is also the case with my setup, in mixed light situations, but I am using an old 85 1.2 ef lens.
I understand that, but to be fair, it was a quite challenging scene and she was really far away, walking in the shade. Plus it's at F/2 - normally I would have shot this at F/2.8 or F/4. I also did not use the focus limiter switch on the 85 mm macro lens, which I really should have done - maybe it wouldn't have made a difference, but who knows. I'm fairly convinced that with a 70-200 F/2.8 lens, all of them would have perfect focus.
Perfect. I'm loving my R10, which is coupled, via EF-EOS R Canon adapter, to my AWESOME Tokina ATX-1 f2.8 100 mm FF macro lens. Much appreciated! BTW - I've got the asterisk button set up to do the eye detection.
Great cameras. Very competitive. Saying that. What on earth were they thinking with a 18-45mm kit lens? At the very least this needs to be 18-55. The 18-150mm looks good (fairly safe lens to design)
Very good review. 👍I am now convinced that I should switch entirely to Canon and sell my remaining Nikon glass unless Nikon releases a comparable camera within the next two or three months.
Number of FOCUSSING POINTS Canon R7: 5,915 (Canon Low Cost APSC) Fujifilm X-H2S: 425 (Fujifilm Flagship APSC) Nikon Z9: 493 (Nikon Flagship Full Frame ) Sony A1: 759 (Sony Flagship Full Frame ) Sony A7IV: 759 (Sony Full Frame ) Canon beat them all in Autofocusing using unique patented DPAF technology. Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm are only TRYING to improve their AF using software/firmware but having less focussing points in the hardware IS their weakness.
Thank you! I wouldn't necessarily switch only because of this one. But to be honest, the lens selection for the RF mount is so much better than for the Z mount. With the exception of 400mm Z F/4.5 lens, all the RF lenses make a lot more sense, and seems to be better in design.
Nikon just realeased a comparable AF that is up to par, but still cant challenge canon and sony. But it is Z9, other than that Z9 (z50, z5, z6, z7) the AF system is just rubbish.
@@set3777 As per my last response, no, this is simply incorrect. Sony's AF is, right up there with Canon's and is more reliable than Canon's AF in video. I'm a Canon shooter of 34yrs, but not a fanboy.
Great job. The zone box that you can adjust the size and move to the subject to start eye tracking is very good. Even the cheap R10 has the same AF system. In my opinion, people who purchase cheap camera like the old Rebel line don't always get the eyes focused. With the R10 that I think a lot of entry level photographers will buy really help them get good pictures.

Exactly, with the cheap R10 you get the exact same pro AF system, which makes it a very attractive buy. It's also true that with entry-level DSLRs, you often got misfocused shots with fast prime lenses - no more of that here!
Not always when the camera claims to be in focus is actually in focus, when looking at the photos afterwards.. it will give the impression everything is good until you look at the photos and realize how many are not in focus
@@set3777 No, those are user-selectable AF points using the joystick or touch n drag. It only has 621 AF zones if left to the camera to choose where to focus.
@@B.D.TRX4 There are tons of settings and when set up properly, you get close to 100% hit rate. I rarely ever get a soft image, even on my Canon RP. That includes shooting birds in flight. The burst rate is ridiculously slow, but the AF is fantastic. I bought an R7 recently and it snaps into focus faster, but being honest, doesn't track much better than my RP (which doesn't have animal detection at all). Where it kills the RP is automatically achieving focus on birds walking on the ground with busy backgrounds. I have to touch n drag with the RP (then it tracks very well) whereas the R7 just grabs the bird's eye instantly.
So Miklós, are you going to sell your Nikon Z50 in favor of a R10 or R7 considering Canons superior AF performance? Or are there any advantages of the Nikon Z cameras that Canon doesn’t offer?
Would you say the R7 or the R10 and a speed booster with EF lenses will give the same image quality as a FF like the R6 mark ii would give you? ie. R7 EF-RF speed booster + EF 50 mm 1.8, 85mm 1.8 and 135mm 1.8
I don't know, I never used speedbooster. What I know is that it's best to invest in good lenses, that can be used later as well when you'll have a full-frame camera.
Hey, Miklós! I saw your viral video titled (📷Nikon Z5 real life review - Eye AF, high-ISO, dynamic range, IBIS and video tested!) which has (108K) views. I liked this video a lot, after that I watched a lot of your videos and I think your video is addictive. But today while I was browsing your RUclips channel a couple of exciting ideas came to mind which can help you to go viral and that I wanna discuss with you:💙
Where you see F/2 on the right / bottom, that's a Canon RF 85mm F/2 IS STM. There's one part with the model, where you see F/2.8, then it's a Canon EF 50mm F/1.4 using an adapter. Then most of the animal shots were with an adapted Canon EF 70-200 mm F/4 non-IS version.
Canon has the best Autofocus, and the worst dynamic range. 4:08 and 4:32 . It's a crop sensor , but even on crop sensors 200-800 ISO shouldn't make so much noise. I still have a Nikon D7500 , with which up to 1250 ISO I still get considerably clean images. I would also like to see a low light video of R7 & R10. For me Autofocus is very important , but definitely not the most important. Crucial feature for me is the image quality as it should be for everyone. I am a Nikon shooter , and yeah Nikon needs to do smth at least to come close to Canon AF in lower end bodies. But image quality is just the opposite.
I brightened the photos up 1 - 1.5 stops, because I deliberately underexposed them to avoid overexposing the highlights caused by the sun. However, I agree that Nikons have slightly better dynamic range and less noise when pushed up.
Why the pictures you showed look so much noisier.. were those pictures that you took or were those from the recording you did on the external monitor If those were final pictures you took then I am amazed by how my noise they had Do you have something to say on this ?
Which photo you think it's way noisier? Please tell the timestamp. On the photos where she's walking towards me I underexposed quite bit to avoid blowing out highlights. Meaning that in post I had to push the exposure and shadows quite much, hence they may look bit noisier than normal.
@@miklosmayerphoto But picking any bird will keep other birds out of focus right? Can we do all of them in focus? Like how a group photo would be taken. All the people in the photo being in focus.
@@aseemsharan That depends on the available depth of field, and how the birds are located compared to the camera. If they are all sitting on a branch which is perpendicular to you, then they will all be in focus. But if the branch is at an angle, then probably they will not fall within the same depth of field, and you have to choose which one to focus on.
@@aseemsharan I’m not being rude but it sounds like you need to learn about the fundamental rules of cameras, focal lengths and depth of field. There are hundreds of great videos on RUclips on this subject.

Superior autofocusing performance even in apsc entry level camera. Unbelievable eye autofocusing performance. Nikon mirrosrless shits can never reach this level of performance.
@@miklosmayerphoto we no need to spent more money to have such superior autofocusing performance . Only nikon Z9 has it. But every canon cameras have same performance.
@@c.bwijesinghe2259 Don't forget that Canon just came out with these cameras (in summer 2022), whereas all Nikon Z cameras are 2-3 years older than that, except for the Z9. That's why I wrote that hopefully Nikon catches up with their new cameras in 2023. Also, Nikon just released a big firmware update promising better eye AF tracking, which I'm going to test out in a few days.
Canon not as attractive since they stopped 3rd party mfg lenses. Those 1.8 prime canon lenses are not that great. Those prime lenses have slow focus with a front element that protrudes in and out of the lens. Canon lenses are made super cheap or they are super expensive if you buy L glass.
I really love some of the new RF lenses, they are of excellent design. Like the 85mm f/2 or the 70-200 lenses. Also, they have "cheap" primes like 16mm f/2.8, Nikon should have these too.
Incredible AF performance even with the Face almost blacked out in Silhouette! Unbelievable results. Thanks for posting
