There has been many portrayals of He Shen in TV dramas but the 2003 version I feel is the most correct one. He Shen is incorrectly depicted as evil and corrupt but that may the work (historical distortion) of Jiaqing which hated He Shen a lot. While he may have been somewhat corrupt, most of his wealth were gifts from Qianlong and not ill gotten.
Tian ah- The emperor was even much powerful than Goddess Guanyin. 😭
So happy to see this video!! I am always curious how the actual dynamics for wives and concubines are in ancient times. Thank you!
Hey Bing I hope you're doing well whether you come back to making videos or not I would like you to know you have created a lifelong interest in ancient Chinese culture in me I will continue to study and am grateful for the information you've given 💚
The Empress has more power than what C-dramas want us to believe.
So why are Chinese men today expected to pay a dowery in modern times? If it isn't even traditionally or historically done.
How are you bing,we miss you, atleast update us about you in the community posts
👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻 can't understand much rather have an AI voice even though I abhor them
In Investiture of God it was written that it is a fox specter which is 1000 years old and it was never mentioned its number of tail ... ? Where did you find that is a nine tailed fox. Which book/novel the reference do you have ? I am interested ..😅
In a couple of scenes of the drama Ruyi’s Royal Love, the empress XiaoXian (LangHua) and the Empress Dowager (ZhenHuan) wore crowns that looked more Ming than Qing.
I hope you also cover the haunted Ying Yang Alley.
Let's give applause to Hu Ke, the actress who played Consort Chun in Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace, she did a great job for the role. ✨👏✨ In real life, she is a great mom to her two boys.
So Qianlong wasn’t sleeping with anyone else the moment they decided to start having kids it seems because no one else got pregnant right up until Ling was extremely ill and died in 1775 when Dun gave birth. Before Ling multiple women were getting pregnant, having babies at the same time or back to back until Ling😅
where did the princes and princesses lived in the forbidden city?
your videos are EXCELLENT!! thank you so much for them!!
i lovee the nail guard after watching ruyi's drama, i wish it goes on trend again!
in Canada we heard that no legitimate heir (ie born of the Empress) ever managed to become Emperor. They were all concubines' /consorts' sons

Hello , I Just discovered your channel. I am a Chinese American woman trying to improve my Chinese language skill, and now addicted to Chinese history via movies, and cdrama series! Chinese history is so fascination and complex! There are so many dynasties, imperial courts, intrigues, power struggles, war stories etc etc And the emperors names, court characters, personalities are plentiful to remember. But the Ming Dynasty TV series is a great show. I love the leading actors Tang Wei, Zhu Yawen and those playing the royal family. The actor playing the Emperor Yongle is especially good and the father character of Zhu Zhanji is wise and peace loving. Even the 2 bad uncles are so fantastic to watch. i do not particularly care for actress who plays Hu Shangxian. But anyways, sad to see how the Consort/ Empress Sun lost the strong male leaders in her times. And the son the new emperor is too weak. Now with your channel, i may be able to clarify some historical facts. It was mentioned in a review that there are plenty of historical inaccuracies of this Ming Dynasty tv series. But I personally think most movies due to dramatization, accuracy has to be sacrificed sometimes. I feel this Ming Dynasty Series Is a top- notched production in terms of script, acting, cinematography, settings ! The production is epic done in great aesthetic tastes. I am enjoying it very much. I wonder if you have watched the series and enjoyed it? The sisters coming together in the palace is pretty interesting! Their blood sisters story, older sis Sun Rouwei who became consort was a rebel , is so different from your historical research. I am not familiar with the movie that you showed in this narration.
China dynasties had so many absorbing events. But the last Qing Dynasty was very happening under Empress Cixi's nearly fifty years rule and tight manipulating control.
Thank you! ❤️
Is there any book that focusing on Chinese ancient women headress for internation book lover?
Sick society....so many wife's in attendance.. disgraceful.
I believe Young YGF escaped to Japan, and died over there, according to the recent excavations found Family Crescents and the compass of Zoroastrians of YGF and her male servants tombs. Her maid must have died instead of her in China. Do you know YGF was Iranian / Persian ethnic and she grew up in the Persian/ Iranian community of Chongam. She spoke Chinese and naturalized in China but she was not of Han ethnic. Her Persian community members up-raised politically due to YGF being the empress and that received much antagonism and jealousy especially from the ruler / governor of Samarqand in Central Asia. Thus lead to the destruction of the dynasty, That is my personal understanding. As long as Yamaguchi Momoe being her descendent, First of all, she does not at all look like a Persian person. Secondly YGF died soon after she travelled to Japan and I am afraid she did not have time to have any descendants.
He didn’t even give her a tomb stone, he had her buried like a servant to Chun( lower than Chun) he wanted her to wander as a nameless ghost. The guy hated her to the very end.
As a child raised under semi strict conditions. I believe the syphilis version. By trying to control and restrict your kid, the more they'll figure out a way to do what they want, even if you have someone monitor them. Plus, from what I know, there weren't any records of eunuch's or maids around Tongzhi getting small pox, wouldn't he have spread it to those who were looking after his bathroom needs?
May I ask should Qing be considered as China or foreign sovernighty?
My personal interpretation of the Empress's hair cutting: She was mourning the loss of Hongli, the man she had fallen in love with because the Emperor became a complete stranger to her and not the man she had once fallen so deeply in love with.
Supposedly concubines were not enough for Qinglian he supposedly had a male concubine. 😮
please more gay ancient china
The empress Xiaoxian is not qianlong’s true love
Who was his true love? And how did you come to such conclusions when according to all the historical documents including his own poetry states that she was his true love. The man was still visiting her tomb when he was in his 80s, even when he was getting muddled he never forgot about her.
It's very confusing to track the names because the name of the concubines most of them changes once promoted . .I wonder was there any basis in history that Wei YanWan (I don't her title anymore) did committed all those atrocities like killing Ling Yunche, 6th princess, 5th prince, 12th prince and so many others? Or was it just fiction and for movie drama made up story?
If this is the case , no wonder Step Empress went crazy, having to constantly sign ( agree) to her husband constantly choosing a specific consort over and over, obviously she has something about her more special than the rest and Qianlong is described as being a tall and very handsome man in real history, it’s so sad that the women chosen for emperors in Qing dynasty were mostly not good looking because of their rule about beautiful women could cause distraction for the emperors and most high official daughters were actually not very good looking at all, based on the women in the 1800s real pictures, I actually feel bad for the emperors for mostly forcing themselves to be with someone they weren’t really attracted to just for political reasons 😢 and these girls being forced to be bound to a unloved lifelong relationship. So happy we’ve evolved and have the freedom to be with whomever we choose as humans.
In the years after Empress Fuca's death, Ling Fei eventually became favored. It obviously wasn't just because of beauty. Ling Fei most likely had a personality and bearing that combined well with the Emperor's own.
Words like "favorite" are so lacking and misunderstood. Unfortunately, too many people base their opinion on watching TV dramas. While no one can say with any absolute certainty, let's take a quick look at facts about what is known. The first Queen was surely very important to the Emperor's heart. Unlike the drama, he knew her while growing up and grieved for her for many years after she died, even writing extensive poetry about her. Ling Fei was also highly important to him. If she had not been a Han, she would have been made an Empress while still alive. Her bearing six live births and having at least 2 other miscarriages tells us more than the dramas ever will.
Recommend this English subbed drama about the life of Yang Gufei THE SECRET HISTORY OF CONCUBINE YANG 54 EPISODES.
This video is contradictory at times. You said the Empress son had priority, yet we know Yongi actually got the priority and not 12th prince.if Yongi lived and Xian didn’t cut her hair, 12th prince still wouldn’t have gotten the crown prince title because we know Qianlong already had 5th prince as his priority . When Fucca had her 2 sons it was very clear from birth that they were considered crown prince’s without a doubt but he did not do the same for Xian’s son(12 prince) so it doesn’t make any sense that he wasn’t chosen because of what Xian did. Why was Qianlong hesitant for so many years when he wasn’t hesitant with Empress Fucca’s sons? That is one of the reasons why I personally believe that Qianlong not naming 12th prince crown prince plays a factor in the downhill relationship with Xian as any woman would feel some type of way about their legitimate partner showing clear distinction between his previous marriage and the present marriage not to mention the hundreds of longing poetry he was writing for Fuca which makes it 💯 clear He Was Not In love with Xian, regardless of how Ruyi’s writers tried to portray because none of it is adding up
NGL if any of the women resembled these women in Qianlong dynasty then I’m sorry but it’s fair to understand that he wouldn’t be physically attracted to most of them to even give them the opportunity to fall mentally in love. Just being honest
He was described to be tall(5:8 inches) and really good looking😂
Jin looks really underdeveloped, everytime I see her pictures, i can’t help but wonder, how many of the consorts actually resembles her😭 omg the picture of the empress 😭😭😭 .
@1:13 yes, 13 house of the zodiac, is the serpent now removed!
Why called it salary is like they are employed by the emperor
Manchu should rule the Han Chinese again.
I wonder which parent did Empress Longyu looked like. She was not even average looking.
