No wonder where the policy started from the beginning of Northern Wei dynasty. Killing the future emperor's birth mother did not stop women and their kin from influencing the court and taking political affairs. If this policy were put to effect carefully, why not the Tuoba emperors never crown an empress at all? Titles empress, empress dowager, grand empress dowager could never be used and bestowed to living women in court life except the titles were granted posthumously to the birth mother of the succeeding emperor. Let the highest ranking consort to manage the inner court. And the emperors' life span were less then 40 years old from the trauma they experienced from dysfunctional family life, court intrigues, and the crazy government system.
WOW! JUST WOW! I learnt so many new things about this policy from the video. Yes, I agree with you, Madam Bing. Your theory definitely is a rational one in debunking the official records. I also wondered how this policy could be effective if the empress consort was still alive and could control the court herself. It is obvious that, as you stated, this policy was used to eliminate political rivals, not to empower the emperor in any way. Thank you so much for this video. P.S. The art of Northern Wei is beautiful.
I came here after watching 'My male lovers' which features the Song and the Northern Wei dynasties and made reference to killing the crown prince's birth mother, but I thought it was a fictional twist to give a reason for the Empress Dowager's cruelty. But truth really is stranger than fiction!
Oh my goodness! Touba Shao was indeed a monster for killing that pregnant lady at such a young age. Is this Wei clan the same clan that Noble Consort Ling was from?
This i call a big Misunderstanding in the History! But hard was really for me that a 1o Year´s old Boy kill a pregnet Woman only to know is this Baby a Boy or a Girl🤢. Thank Bing to tell us this Case of Rule.

Just imagine being one of Touba Shao's harem women... that must have been an absolute nightmare.... holy moly....😢
The Buddhist icons depicted toward the end of the video are amazing. The painting at 5.30 also caught my attention. Thank you again for this video.

I recognized the royal clan name from Li Weiyoung! (I had to check!) But the movie was set further in time.
I literally watched the last episode yesterday 😊
Miss Bing you are an excellent history detective. I can't imagine a life so harsh to produce such rules.
