What a crazy time it must have been for Northern Qi. One day you have a kingdom, the next day gone. I wonder what the common people must have thought about this. Thank you so much for this introduction to Northern Qi video.

Both the North and the South had their crazy kingdoms. The dynasty was ruled by three brothers and a couple of offspring. Each of them have a retribution for their actions. Prince of Lanling was the best candidate for the emperor but was killed by his paranoid and incompetent cousin Gao Wei.

Greetings! Chenggong Gao actually survived, his descendants were evident of this truth. I always was suspicious of him "ending his life" as Prince due to Poison Wine being a powerful ploy in the hands of skilled intellectuals and he was already portraying himself as being sick due to illness. I was surprised when I found out that he had lived all along.

This story reminds me of a period in late Rome that changed emperors like they did socks. Most of them were military generals promoted and demoted, one only ruled for six months.
You're right. That dynasty be wildin'

because this time was the wildest time in Chinese history, nobody believed their family, because their kids might have killed them for power. Northern Qi's kings received a lot of foreign education, so in their mind, power and sex were the first. And psychosis runs in their family

but something is interesting Northern Qi's kings were all handsome, even the most handsome man in Chinese history, Gao Changgong was also the Northern Emperor's son.

Very interesting. The family had a lot of infighting for power. I hope you do a video explaining how they ruled their dynasties. I would like to hear about some of the NC17 policies.

Gao Yang once played with the bones of one of his consorts after he killed her. When he was drunk he needed a line of criminals in front of him to kill. He also beat his son Gao Yin so hard he mentally traumatised him. His governance was pretty good because of his ministers but Gao Yan killed most of those in his coup for supporting his nephew.
Gao Yan was actually pretty sane and good at governing the country besides the whole nephew usurping and killing thing.
Gao Zhan was less randomly murdering people crazy, more controlled evil towards his own family crazy. He made advances on Gao Yang's wife Li Zu'e. She said no, and Gao Zhan threatened her with her son's life. She got pregnant and then was accused of killing the baby. Gao Zhan beat her son to death in front of her and she was beaten and sent to a nunnery. He then killed a bunch of his nephews in extremely brutal ways. Like, Gao Bainian for example was beaten until near dead, beheaded and his body thrown into a lake.
Gao Wei was more of an incompetent sex-craved fool than cruel, but he had his moments. He killed his most famous generals during the war, like Prince Lanling. He also let his wet-nurse get a lot of power. And he was obsessed with his favourite concubine Feng Xiaolian.
