    Exactly what is a 'honyok"? I had a 7th grade history teacher that would occasionally address one or more of us kids as a 'Bunch of Honyoks'. I have never heard it again before or since until now. I took it to mean something like 'boneheaded trouble maker' or equivalent. Is that close? HA HA! "Sit down and pay attention, ya bunch of honyoks!" 1976 was the last time I heard that word. This is the best How To vid on bee smokers. Do it like this.

      That can work but it's really just a guess in a large beeyard. It works just for the day. Remote entrances on small colonies works everyday without much effort. It works very very well. Hive equalization works great in beeyards as well. Make hives similar in strength and that eliminates robbing. The method I'm using works so well on splits that are in the same yard with larger hives. Happy beekeeping!

When they took the lid off the first nuc I said WOW WOW there was MAYBE one an a half frame of bees in that whole nuc it was the sickest looking nuc I had ever saw and it was a over wintered nuc they said . Well the bad part was he got three of them an the person that had sold them to him was bragging about the nucs . There are other ways but we feel this is the best. We were nervous at first and even taped our fingers with electric tape. But now it's no big deal. Just make sure your fingers aren't sticky when you pick a queen up by her wings. The workers go in head first. I haven't been stung in a couple years doing this. Just jump in and do it. • @honyokhoneybees8116
      @honyokhoneybees8116 Год назад

      The recesssd handles wont fail when picking up a box full of bees or honey. The wooden handles will eventually fail and rip off. The wood behind the handles doesn't dry out well. It will hold moisture and rot prematurely. Boxes stack tightly together when in storage. Hives on pallets fit snug without handles making a void / gaps between Hives. The loose fitting bee suits will catch on the handles when working around bee hives.

      It's a demonstration showing a appropriate sized box can give even a small cluster a chance to over winter. She was probably one of our late grafted queens that we put in the medium with some frames of honey. Slow to start because a queen will lay just enough eggs that the cluster can cover. We fed them and she had a nice hive by mid honey flow. We probably boosted the hive with hatching brood to get things rolling.

    • @honyokhoneybees8116
      @honyokhoneybees8116 Год назад

      They worked well on hives that were full of bees. To get them to draw out and fill the comb we places a normal super on the hive. Once it was filling up and close to capping we placed the Ross round box below the super. This seemed to get the Bees to draw it out better. Once drawn out we switched it with the super above. Once on top we could change out the Ross rounds as they capped them. Then they will keep drawing out the new Ross rounds. One thing to watch though. A good queen can overpopulate a nuc. Be sure to watch the amount of brood. Use it elsewhere to help boost other hives if necessary. Have fun!
