    Excellent video! At the end, I loved it when you said "Honyok" in that altered voice! I got a kick out of it! hehe

    Nice video🙂 how high you stock your nuc in spring? I only use nucs too.

      We sell most of them. If making honey or ross rounds we go double deep and add a medium or 2. We also split a lot

    So how many frames of honey do you think that a 5 frame nuc needs to make it through the winter, if I may ask?
    And how many frames covered in bees?
    I ask because I overwinter nucs as double deep nucs, with 5 frames of honey in the top and two to three frames of honey below with the other brood

      We try to have 4 frames of capped honey/sugar syrup. We make sure the queen has a place to lay eggs in the middle as well. It takes more honey to heat 2 boxes. Its cheaper to heat a small single story house than a large 2 story. As far as the number of bees...we overwintered 8 out of 10 hives in single medium box last winter. Some had about a softball sized cluster. We do add a sugar shim with a 1 1/2" vent hole on top. Then we do the mountain camp method of emergency feed.

    So I'm guessing it ok to mix bees> They don't reject each other?

      We don't mix bees. These are condensed from a double deep into a single brood box.

    So are you mixing bees and hives

    • @honyokhoneybees8116
      @honyokhoneybees8116  3 года назад

      No. Just shaking bees from extra frames in the same hive and condensing them into a single deep 5 frame box

    With feeder pails in top of your hives I wouldn't call it honey.

      If you zoom in you will see that the feeder buckets are turned up and not actually feeding. They are just covering the hole in the lid. You are correct though on the hives that needed more feed but it can get confusing if explain it in the videos both ways. With the number of hives we have and the moderate drought we had this fall we did what it takes to save our honey bees. Good observation!
