Ok, I have watched many many videos on beekeeping as I want to start my own hive but no-one, I mean NO-ONE, has explained it like you have done in as much detail and in terms I can understand. THANK YOU SOOO MUCH.
It’s so true what @garryhancock3394 said about this video. I’m in a Bee club and I learned more in this video than a full year of beekeeping. I’m in the highlands in Australia so we are getting ready for winter. My last inspection will be tomorrow and testing before spring in September. Did you have any tips for 1st year wintering for new beekeepers?
What an incredibly informative video! You explained everything about the unique cells and comb within that one hive and not just a slideshow with getty images. This is how you share knowledge and expertise! Bravo!
Thank you! I am posting another version of this video this weekend with some better footage. It was rainy and foggy that day making it not the best for taking videos, but now that I have some hives in a less rainy location, I am able to shoot better footage.
Great information. I’m a first year beekeeper and have watched dozens of hours of videos on beekeeping. This one was the best yet for learning how to read the frames in the hive. I learned a lot, thanks.
Thank you!!! You know, sometimes I wonder if I should keep making videos because there are SO MANY beekeeping videos already on RUclips. Then I read a wonderful comment like yours and it convinces me to keep going :)
Than God I found you! As a first year beekeeper, I am lost. Have had a basic teaching from another beekeeper but not very informative. Your video has taught me more in 30 minutes than I have learned in 4 months! Thank you for being so in depth. ❤
Amazing video! Clear, informative and engaging. As a new beekeeper I've watched hours of video but none as informative as yours. Thank you my dear girl! I will now be able to be a better bee keeper with what you have shown.
I don't know how I can possibly improve on the comments your past viewers have left. Ditto on all of them. You definitely do a wonderful job at educating us. I have watched, like one said, countless hours of bee videos, and you definitely do the best job. This was the first one of your videos I found and watched, it definitely won't be the last. You can read the passion on your face and hear it in your voice when you talk about the pest problems. I wish I lived next door to you. I don't have a hive yet, but I'm sure it's in the cards. I've been watching these videos for a while now, trying to get as much education as I can before I dive in to it. Thanks so much for being here. Past bed time my time, Florida. I'm up at 4 and in here watching gardening and honey bee videos for a couple hours while my old body warms up and I get rolling. See ya again soon.
I love watching bee keeping vids but also get the sense that I'm late to the game because it always assumes the audience knows a foundation of bee-knowledge. So I thank you for the beginner-level discussion - I learned a lot.
I think this should be the first video beginners watch. Learning about gadgets and the supers are important but its more important to learn about the animal you are tending.
I agree! That's why I really encourage my students to just sit outside their hive and watch the bees come and go. You will learn 100 times more just by being in their presence and it will make you a better beekeeper. Gadgets make things easier, but nothing replaces the beekeeper intuition you will develop when you learn about bee behavour.
just got 2 young hives from a friend, I have been watching lots of videos on you tube, I keep coming back to yours, the way you explain things, has help me the most, if I'm trying to figure it out, I can find something where you talk me through it, thank you
THANK YOU !!! We are brand new beekeepers ( how cool to be able to say that! 🎉 ) , and your videos have relieved a ton of stress about doing the right things for the bees. You are so articulate in your speaking and your deliberate rhythm is so refreshing!
This has been very helpful. I've seen a lot of what you said all over youtube, but you simplified most if it in an even more comprehensible way. I get my nuc in about two weeks and a package sometime soon and will start my beegining of this hobby. Thank you!
You done a great job telling everybody the correct way to read a frame spot on an in great detail . Keep up the great work you are helping out people to become great Bee Keepers. THANKS
Outstanding job! Clear explanations of what things to look for and why. Really like your delivery style and the way you handle the bees shows you are a true expert!
Liked and subscribed. Clear explanations, no wasted time. You discussed the examination process focusing on the order of inspection and diagnosis of what we're seeing. First year beekeeper so thank you so much. Best teaching session I've had.
I’m was so glad to run across your video. You are so excellent in your definitions and what to look for. Awesome, helpful information! Thank you so much.
Please keep making more videos, I learned more from watching your video than most any of the videos I have scrolled through, thank you very much, I don't have any bees yet but I am going to be getting me some as soon as I can afford it
You should read on how to catch your own swarm. It's basically free bees, lots of how to videos start growing lemongrass to make your own lure too. I have captured 3 hives after losing my first hive to it swarming. Now I keep a swarm hive out all the time. Good luck!
Thanks! I'm at the beginning of year two with a hive of Russian bees. It's hard to know how often to check in the hive, especially since it takes me so long to know what I'm looking at and what it means. Really appreciate how thorough you are.
I have just begun the journey of beekeeping and was looking for videos teaching me what to look out for. Your delivery is very good. I'm on week 2 of beekeeping and struggling to see what I'm looking for! Watching your video is a great start, thank you!
I have watched lots of videos, yours explains it very simply and admire your patience explaining about it, I will be starting next spring and really look forward to using your 5 pointers to look out for, the bees seem very calm as well. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
very informative... I've learned a lot... my dad at 74 y/o is starting a hive and I'm trying to help him, with me knowing close to nothing about it... I'll definitely keep watching this channel to learn more...
One of the best videos I have watched re; reading combs. Ty for the excellent information, Larissa. Keep up the good work and ty for sharing your knowledge with "curious minds who NEED to know".
I am just learning in preparation for starting as a bee keeper next spring. This was the best video I have seen so far. The close-up pictures and detailed explanations made all the difference. Thanks!
Great video Leresa. After going on a beginners bee keeping course now have my first hive and look through the frames weekly at the local bee keepers club where lots of other beginners keep their hives. It is so helpful learning with an experienced bee keeper going around inspecting each hive with their owners and with lots of questions and observations being made. Find this hands on approach gaining experence from others noting problems and repetitivness really useful in drumming home knowledge. Also with the help of watching numerous online videos from professionals like yourself talking and listening to scientist about latest developments coming through on how to tackle diseases.
Hi, this is Eberhard from Oschatz-Germany. This is a super video. I teach jung beekeepers. Your video is super. I was able to take some screenshots of your video. These pictures show exactly what I want to show my students. Distance Hawaii- Germany approximately 7500 miles, yet we are one beekeeping family worldwide.
I came looking for a video just like this. Yours is the best! I’ma first year and was having the hardest time distinguishing between the kinds of cells and you broke it down in a way that is so simple for me. I was also stressing because I can never seem to spot the Queen and you helped relieve a lot of that stress. Thank you!
I am "considering" starting a have in Tulsa, Oklahoma in a year or two. I will obviously start off by joining a local network. I just wanted to mention, of all the beehive videos I've seen, your presentation here is one of the best and most informative videos I've seen. Thank you, very much. 🙂
Thank you! I am trying to make videos about the basics of what's going on in the hive for beginner beekeepers. Stay tuned for more videos like this one about the laying pattern of a queen and hive activity.
I am sorry madam, I must have missed your name, but thank you for explaining the inspection process thoroughly and in plain language. Will continue to watch.
Love your videos! You're a great teacher. I enjoy learning new things from people who have extensive experience and knowledge of a subject. Watching you handle those frames without a suit or gloves was amazing. I'm not that brave yet lol. Plus my bees are the Russian ones. They're supposed to be a little more aggressive, but on the plus side they are said to be resistant to varroa mites and also cold hardy. Will see I just got them in March of this year. Looking good so far. Thank you for sharing your wonderful knowledge. It's helping alot.
I just started this year and have two very healthy hives so far. I’m looking forward to splitting and adding double the hives each year up to 200. So far this is the most informative channel on bees that I have found! Subscribed and will be back! Thanks so much.
Nice! That's very ambitious but also doable :) I started with just 2 hives and caught some swarms and just kept splitting the strong ones. It can be done. Sometimes, the hardest part is getting all that equipment and finding land for them. One word of advice - it can be tempting to split every hive with enough brood (I made that mistake). But not all hives are strong and hard workers. It's better to have 20 strong, good producing hives than 100 hives that aren't as strong. Keep requeening the colonies with poor genetics.
@@tomcurran1538 >Sounds like great advice. I was talking to a beekeeper who lost all his hives three years running before he just started having success. This is an awesome and informative video. Thank you for creating this. 1st time subscriber and Im looking forward to learning so much more from you. Have a very happy new year ❤
Excellent video! I'm about a year into my hives but I really enjoyed watching this overview. You did a great job at explaining important points and showing examples. Also, love your name! I have a good friend named Larissa and you just don't hear it very often!
Fantastic video, so informative. Laryssa possesses a great ability to transfer practical knowledge to a viewer. Subscribing to your Beekeeping for Beginners lessons right now. :)
I made a video about egg spotting - ruclips.net/video/rcjcD3L88_4/видео.html Looking for larvae week after week helps too, but when you see larvae, look next to it and the larvae should get smaller and smaller and then there will be eggs.
I’ve heard you can hold the frame so the back of the cell is exposed to the sun. Then rotate the frame around and try to look for the shadow of the egg rather than the egg itself.
Great video!! I've just recently gotten interested into actually working with bees. Figured I'd study up through fall and winter. Get my equipment and in spring actually get my first colony. This video sure does help!
Very good, informative video. I am in my 4th year. Went from 1 hive to 5 and have caught several swarms. It is fun but also work. And yes, I have lost hives also. And oh yeah, been stung too. Keep up the good videos, you are a great teacher.
Thank you! I appreciate you taking the time to comment :) Great job expanding your apiary! That's exactly what I try to get my students to do -expand to at least 5 hives over the summer. That way it's not a big deal if one or two hives don't make it. That's nature and your apiary can bounce back.
You are 'bee goals.' Great info, thank you. HOW do you not wear any protective gear (except hat)? Even your bonnet it not secured/covered, how do you prevent them from getting in it from underneath?
Part of it is the bees' demeanor. Some hives are more aggressive than others. Some of it is just getting used to not wearing protective gear and feeling comfortable with it. Bees are more likely to sting if you're stressed/jittery, breathing heavily.
You do a great job on all your videos. I noticed when you were showing one of the frames what looked like a capped queen cell?! It may have been an optical illusion with other bees climbing on it. Then you found the queen in the bottom brood box. You are one of a few sites that actually give great information instead of trying to sell stuff. Thank you.
Thanks! That's very nice of you to say. And, for better or worse, I rarely try to sell something. LOL I always forget to mention my online beekeeping class. I'm a terrible salesperson :p There was a queen cell on the frame, but it wasn't capped.
Ok, I have watched many many videos on beekeeping as I want to start my own hive but no-one, I mean NO-ONE, has explained it like you have done in as much detail and in terms I can understand.

Looking for larvae week after week helps too, but when you see larvae, look next to it and the larvae should get smaller and smaller and then there will be eggs.
I’ve heard you can hold the frame so the back of the cell is exposed to the sun. Then rotate the frame around and try to look for the shadow of the egg rather than the egg itself.
I have the same problem. I got a slide open magnifying glass. When you find larvaein stages, look around the outer edges. Good luck.
I’m doing my original research debating getting started. How often should I be doing an inspection like this?
Well done, have not begun bee keeping yet. Studding and learning bee keeping . Thanks for a great presentation
Y giving us very important information with honestly..and clearly..thanks
This is the most informative post I’ve come across-thank you so much!!
Great video!! I've just recently gotten interested into actually working with bees. Figured I'd study up through fall and winter. Get my equipment and in spring actually get my first colony. This video sure does help!
Best of luck!
This is the BEST info so far for beginners! THANK YOU!
You're so welcome!
I just got my first hive. This was so very helpful.
I'm so glad it helped!
This video is so helpful to a new beekeeper like myself. Thank you
You're welcome!
I'am from the Solomon Islands in the Pacific. The first timer, love your video
Thank you!
Thanks, one of the best video I saw about how to inspect a hive. Very well done 👍.
So nice of you. Thank you!

You were fantastic! Thank you for being so patient in explaining the entire box. I learned do much from you. ❤️
Great video with some very good information. You would make a very good teacher. Thank You
Glad it was helpful!
I live in the Isle of Man and just watched this video very interesting excellent
The best bee video by far! Excellent explanation! thanks
@@BeekeepingMadeSimple Aaaaah! Very good. Thanks again.
I also noticed that BIG Queen cell😜☘️👑
Amazing info, thank you so much for taking the time to make this video.
