  • Small hive beetle treatment we use on our bottom boards. It has been working very well for us so we wanted to share this with beekeepers. Mix 3 tablespoons of Eucalyptus oil with 3 lbs of Crisco and add some food coloring so you can tell its mixed up properly. Apply about 1 table spoon worth per bottom board. Apply in all 4 corners of the box. Go to Don Fat Beeman commercial classes in Lula Georgia and learn more things to keep your bees alive and thrive!

Great video, short, sweet and to the point. Thank you. I'm in Queensland, Australia, we don't have crisco, wondering what else the eucalyptus could be mixed in or put on?

Not sure what the Eucalyptus does but I will add to a beetle barn and put on top. I currently use crisco, honey and boric acid.

Thanks for the videos!! I enjoy watching them. You guys are doing a great job!!
I am going to try your Eucalyptus grease method this spring. Am wondering if you have ever added Wintergreen to your grease mixture? I have heard that Wintergreen will kill Varroa and Small Hive Beetles, not sure if that is true but I plan give it a try.
Do you have any thoughts about Wintergreen?
    Thanks once again!!

Haven't tried wintergreen except in our sugar syrup bee feed. Let us know your results! Thanks for watching!

Nice video Eric. What's the company you get the oil from?

Thanks for sharing. Quick question: Could this be added to either the inner cover or the top cover to make application simple. Thanks in advance for the answer.

The bottom board is the place of entry. So this is why we put it on the bottom board. We don't use inner covers. U can try the lid if you want. Let us know your results.

How does this work? Do the small Hive beetles eat it and die? Does it repel them? What the bees do with it?

The bees seem to leave it alone. I am not sure why the high beetles stay away. But it works for us. Maybe eucalyptus is their kryptonite? We will give more updates later this year.

How do you get discount as a Beek? And do any other oils work! I think the fat bee man suggests wintergreen or tea tree.
    Thanks!

Just tell Loran you are a beekeeper. As long as the oils are the real deal the supplier don't matter. The wintergreen and tea tree oils are to mix into the sugar water for feeding.

I didn't think that you got hive beetles there. Joe May only got some when he brought up packages from GA

Lol. Yes they are in our area. They are more prevalent in warmer climates.. Many beekeepers I've talked to have some. As long as the hive is strong they aren't a huge problem. Weak splits are when you really watch for them.

@@honyokhoneybees8116 okay, if this works for Don in GA and it doesn't affect the bees, I will give it a shot. Thanks
