Thanks for watching. I made that video a few weeks ago. I don't remember what I was saying about Visa. Maybe the Schwab Visa? I have been over here a few years now everything has changed. Same here in Thailand. 2 months ago you could get 37/1 US dollar. Soon it will drop to 29/1. That's a major difference in spending power on a $1500 Social Security check. If the plan was to send over 65,000b each month instead of depositing 800k because the rate is 4.5% in a US account. My plan was to move over money into a Thai checking account 800,000. I did so when it was 37/1 ($21,600) and another $25,000 spending cash when it was 36/1. Today that 800k will cost $26,600 at 30/1. That change happened in less than 2 months. That 4.3% won't last forever, unless eggs are $20 a dozen in five years. Then maybe you will get 4.6%. I also have the major part of my cash in a US federal retirement fund, Roth IRA and US CD's. Plus cash in US banks. But, having $21,600 wrapped up earning 1% to achieve my long term visa isn't the end of the world. If I had decided to move the money over today and I was just at immigration making that decision 30 hours ago, it would have cost me $6000 extra dollars at todays rate. Earning an extra $350 interest at 4.5% instead of 1% would take many years to offset that. Plus, that 4.5% will probably be back to 2% in a year or two. Economy types predict the 30/1 may be around most of 2024 and 2025. Let's hope they are wrong. In the end, it's just the cost of doing business. Even if things were even. In one's total portfolio, today I spend about $675 on rent, power, internet and cell. That was $575 when the baht was 37/1. In California my home insurance might have gone up 30% in one year. Grocery bill 50% in the past few years. So you have to look at the bottom line. I'm not sure I answered the Visa question. Shoot me a fresh comment if I missed the question. I also made that video. It's out soon. It's easier but takes about 15 extra minutes. From say Bearing, it will be 30 extra minutes. Depends on where you live

Depends where you came from. From Asoke, taking the green adds 15 minutes to the trip. From Bearing, it's 35 minutes to pass T21 and stay on the green. Once you arrive, the skywalk will take you to the A building. The B building is where you'll find immigration. The skywalk doesn't go that far. It's 1.7k to immigration division one. Exit at 3 and walk 2 blocks to Chaing Wattana Alley 7, I believe. Take a bike about 5 minutes. Google Maps said it's a 19-minute walk. The A building is a 5 minute walk. It's great if you are going to the Thai court. Immigration is about 1 mile. Did it twice in the past week. Video from the green out in a few days. Yes, it's easier, but it's longer. Kinda like going from On Nut to Phaya Thai to get the airport link. It's better to go to Sukhumvit and go one stop to Phetchaburi and walk to Makassan. Or go 10 extra stops on the green. It's easier but longer. I'd rather not circle the city

I made two videos, the other will be out soon. This video is a little under an hour. Sukhumvit MRT Blue to Red at Bang Sue to the Pink MRT at Lak Si. Another video will be out soon. Taking the Green BTS to Wat Phra Si Mahat and then the Pink MRT. From On Nut, I'd guess it's closer to 1.5 hours. I would take the shorter route from On Nut. From Terminal 21 it's about the same. Maybe 5 or 10 minutes longer on the Green.

I was just there today. The skywalk goes to building A. Immigration is much further at building B. I walked the skywalk into building A. Yes, that's a short walk. It ended there. It was a 5 minute moto bike ride to building B. I'd guess a 15 minute walk

Ya, I just double checked on Google maps. They have the walk from the Government Complex Station to building B, listed as a 1.7k walk and 19 minutes. I think you can do it faster on Chaing Wattana Alley 7. Maybe a 15 minute walk. But, that skywalk only goes to building A. A moto-taxi from the top of Alley 7 is the way to go.

Yes, that video is coming out soon. From Phrom Phong, it took maybe 10 or 15 extra minutes then taking the Blue to the Red. From On Nut, that might be 25 extra minutes. But it's one long ride on the Green and then 4 or 5 stops on the Pink. So it might be worth the extra 15 minutes. Especially if you get a seat.

If you live in Bangkok, you have to get your extension on a Non-O in the city you have a condo lease. A hotel won't work. If you're a tourist on a visa exempt, you can do that anywhere.

@@EagerExpat ok I just saw that long line. I think if I lived in Bangkok I would just take a cheap flight out of the country or take a cheap bus or train to Cambodia and back..

@@vgshwk I was getting a 1 year extension. Leaving the country will get you 60 days. If you want to live in Bangkok, you have to deal with a crazy busy immigration. After 3 or 4 trips and getting 60 day visa exempt, they will pull you aside at some point. You can't live here 60 days at a time without trouble at the airport at some point.

Ok sorry I just woke up wasnt thinking straight. Do you need to have a years lease to get the extension or could you do say 6 months in one city and 6 months in another city where it could be easier to get that extension? You never did say how long it took you at immigration. I guess that is why some people would rather higher an agent.

No, when you walk outside the same entrance I showed, there will be a half dozen bikes standing by to the left. The cost has gone up. Ha Ha. It's 40b back to the Pink, or 50b back to Lak Si and the Red. There's also some cabs. I'd guess most of these guys are looking for a fare to Sukhumvit. Not a meter fare back to Lak Si. I'm sure a decent tip will get the job done. You can also order a Grab/Bolt to get back to Lak Si. It might take 20 minutes for a car to arrive. This is a long way from busy Asoke. The walk to the Pink isn't that bad. I'd guess it's a mile.
