Nice video. I live across the street from the Makkasan ARL station (you briefly showed the building). I've been here almost 2 years and was thinking of moving to another area, but I think I'm going to stay here. I love being 200 m from the MRT and also having the ARL as well as the conventional train and the khlong boats just minutes away. I'm a walker, but after a shower and heading out, descending into the AC coolness of the MRT station after a 2 minute walk is priceless. I do my banking and shopping at Rama 9 one stop north, and of course Asoke is one stop south. The conventional train stops here briefly (it's called Asoke station, though it's not really a station) and you can jump on. I've only gone west, it's 4 or 5 stops to Hua Lamphong station (end of line). It's 2 baht! And it's fun! All those folks you saw by the track are commuting east on the conventional line because it's so much cheaper than the ARL. I'm a fellow retired expat (part time) from SoCal. Discovered your vlog a couple weeks ago and enjoying it. Thanks!
Thanks for the info. I'll have to jump on the local train and check that out. Yes, my buddy lives near you. He loves the area. A short walk to T21 and close to the trains.
Thx for Showing the Rama 9 Area Joe. I am not familiar with the "Rama" Streets at all and i plan to explore them when i get back to BKK. Its funny you say alot of people ask you about good areas other than Asok and PP because that is actually the same question i have always had. Two areas Im interested in are On Nut and Fortune Town but i will probably start off in PP and then get familiar with these other areas as time goes on
That's a good plan. Rama 9 and On Nut are very quiet. Start in midtown Manhattan and then check out Staten Island. Compare what you like and then sign a lease
Nice video! Rama 9 is where I used to stay back in 2003/04 with my Thai girlfriend at the time. She had an apartment in an old building that has since been demolished and is where the Life Asoke/Rhythm Asoke now stand. It is very different from how it used to be! On a side note, I believe Bangkok Pat found the definitive location of the Clash/Combat Rock album cover at Ramkhamhaeng ARL Station on Petchaburi Road. It's a little way on from Makkasan. Although, finding that precise location is like trying to find the Holy Grail!
Thanks for sharing! Bangkok is chaotic in the rush hour that last from 8AM to 8PM. But despite the chaos, it has it's charm no other city in the world have! I use the BTS Sky Train, MRT Metro or the Airport Link as long as I can. But to avoid the cramped trains, I always stay at a hotel with airport transport near Suvarnabhumi the last night before flying somewhere. Because non of the commuters love 2 people with 2 large suitcases, 2 smaller suitcases and a carry on bag etc. standing near the doors at the Airport Link train.
You’re right, the MRT entrance from Fortune Town side connects through to Central World via an underpass so thats the best way to cross Rama 9 or a foot bridge further up past Lotus’s supermarket. Stayed at The Somerset Hotel for a week back in August 2022, great spot. Esplanade Mall up the road at Thailand Cultural centre MRT is a decent little mall too for all your day to day needs and not too busy.
I will usually take the BTS to phaya thai to catch the airport rail link usually less crowded at the beginning of the line. As far as those train tracks I think if you take them east it will take you to Cambodia.
Ya I hear ya. My yearly visit is this Monday. It's ok, I'm prepared and copies are made. I'm still trying to out with a multi entry before lunch. I have an 8:30 Non-o extension, but I can never get an appointment for the multi-entry. I'm gonna pull a ticket for the multi at 8:30. It is a Monday, but I get this over the first day I can. Plus, I leave for Bali this week.

When the train came through and was finished, it was like at a horse track when they let them go for the race L O L thanks for the great video
Yes, those doors seem to open for about 10 seconds. It's a smooth operation. No room for slow pokes.
Greetings from Chicago!
