- Boon and I were ready for a Bangkok side-trip. Tonight we took the 6.5 hour flight on the Zip-Air 787. We are heading to Tokyo. Boon then will return to Bangkok and later I'll head to Osaka.
Here's a few links for my favorite credit cards. I try to check the links often, but let me know if there is a problem. If they change the offer on the card, I may need to update the link. Full disclosure, I get a few airline miles for referring a new customer. You should get the same public offer at no additional cost. Thank you very much.

Interesting thanx for posting.
Thank you very much
great quality content!! this video really brought back memories of long rail trips when I was traveling a few years back... my wife was tired but I was so excited and full of energy... God willing in a few years I'll be expating as well!!
I appreciate you watching
Zipair was new to me. Thank you for bringing Zipair to our attention.
Yes, it's a good budget choice. We got rt for about $400 from BKK. Including picking a seat.
Great video injoy watching it and have fun in Tokyo 😁👍📹
Thank you, I will
I was hoping we’d get some Japan action. Appreciate you taking the time. Have fun.🙏
Ya Japan is always a goodtime. I brought the camera along.
Nice video, Joe. That jazz club looked interesting. The Japanese have a deep appreciation of jazz.
They sure do. Blurs too
I remember the battles when the airport opened. I didn't realise it was that long ago.
Time goes by fast. The 80s seemed like 10 years ago.
Awesome video!
I appreciate you watching
Great to follow your travels and get your practical insights. Thx
Thank you Jim. I'm just having a little fun making videos
Welcome to Japan!
I often watch your channel, in particular, my favorite is you visited Baja California Mexico.
You have big benefit because of Japanese Yen is a cheaper than US dollars.
Please enjoy and have a nice stay in Japan!
I love Baja. Grew up in San Diego
Welcome to Japan. Hope you enjoyed Tokyo.
I love Tokyo. Always have. I just rolled into Osaka. Also very nice.
@@EagerExpat So glad to hear that. Enjoy rest of your trip in Japan!
And always looking forward to new video of bkk as well.
Have a safe journey 🙏😊
Thank you very much
Interesting , looking forward to the Tokyo and Osaka walk around.
Japan is always a good time
Cool! Looks fun!.... Great video... On a side note, I see the new bridge at the end of soi 10 is now opened for entering Benjakitti park...
I saw that too. It looks pretty wide. They used to have car traffic on that bridge. I sure hope it's controlled. That street is pretty narrow for bumper to bumper cars.
Get a Bento Box before getting on the Shinkansen. Sit on the right side going to Osaka. Have fun.
I got my right hand seat. Mt Fuji was in the clouds. That's how it goes. Osaka is great.
Oh no there goes Tokyo go go Godzilla. Just a song that popped into my head. I don’t like it when you go to a hotel site and the hotel picks your bed as many times it will say a double or 2 twins as especially if I am staying multiple nights I prefer the bigger bed. I have only been to the Tokyo airport as I tend to fly to se Asia during the winter and don’t want to go to Tokyo when it is cold.
Ya there was no way to even get a large bed in that small room. A double is very common in Japan. Or pay closer to $250 for a larger room. Two nights of that is my entire month in Bangkok. A double is fine for a few days.
Nice vlog
Thanks very much Mario
Hi Joe! How much was the roundtrip flight to Tokyo on Zip Air? I understand that Zip Air is the budget airline of Japan Airlines.
It was about $400 rt picking a seat. Maybe $40 more doubling the carry on from 7k to 14k. And yes the weigh the bag and put a tag on it. Air Asia is looser on weight these days.
How was the turbulence going to and from Tokyo?
It was a little bumpy. The heat never helps with a smooth flight.
What air lines Carrie do you like to use points with from your affiliate credit cards
Carrie? I've used points on dozens of airlines. Whoever has the best price on the route I'm going.
You used miles on Zip Air? Or you booked on Chase travel portal?
My last time through Tokyo I stayed at the Conrad on Hilton points. I think your girlfriend will like it more 🙂Chase has been absolutely killing it on mega cc offers lately, got 3 120k Chase Ink Preferreds and then I got a targeted 250k Amex Business Platinum. Getting ready to apply for a few 90k Chase Ink Business Unlimiteds. I have burned 1.5 million miles/points year to date and I have more than what I started with 1/1/2024. When I get to Bangkok in November, I will reach out to meet to discuss travel hacking, music and of course BKK.
Question: What camera do you use, quality is amazing!
No I paid cash on Zip Air. I used to get 5 cards very 90 days too. The issue living in BKK is there is no way to spend. I usually can only do a few cards a year. And nobody will take Amex with it's 5% fee to merchants. I miss the days of having millions of miles. No Wal Mart or Simon gift cards in the land of smiles.
Yes, say hi when you get to town. The camera is just my cell phone. Samsung S22 Ultra. I might get an S24 Ultra soon. But the S22 is still doing fine. I try to just hold still when I shoot.
@@EagerExpat This is a reason I am still in Michigan, lol. Yeah, my Samsung is old, one day I am going to upgrade to the latest one, your pic quality is so much better.
@@TravelBloggerBuzz Ya, I'm missing out on some miles. But, being retired makes up for it. It's great to jump on a plane anytime I want for $20. Plus, I still earn some miles. I just did Australia, NZ and Tahiti in Singapore Business and Cathay home to BKK.
Hey Joe, no doubting it Tokyo's a great city, but why not consider visiting the greatest continuous civilisation on earth: China? I've taken advantage of China's visa-free scheme and journeyed 6,000 miles to Shanghai. Last year I went to Beijing to discover China's great past; today in Shanghai I've seen the world's future. It has a skyline to match New York. I travelled the 20 miles from the airport to the city in 8 minutes on the
Maglev train at 200 mph. 25 million people living here; 50% of vehicles are EVs; to stand in the centre of downtown and listen for a minute. There's traffic in front of you, but there's an absence of the noise of running internal combustion engines. Coming to China debunks all that propaganda inflicted on us in the west. Extra bonus: the Chinese people. I'll drop in to Bangkok on ky way home
China is ok. I've been there. They have nice trains.
@@EagerExpatI've been to the US also but.....
If I take my Thai girlfriend from Bangkok to Tokyo she will need to apply for a visa? Did Boon go through Visa application process?... any issues?
No visa needed for Thai's for 15 days. Visa exempt. US gets 90 days. You may be asked for a return ticket. We were not.
@@EagerExpatjust get a ticket from one of those onward ticket sites if you go one way ticket most are 12-15 USD
@@vgshwk I'd guess they would have a roundtrip ticket. It's usually not a problem. But, any country can ask you for onward travel. Or in the case of Thailand, a one-way is fine if you have a visa to live there.
Partied there many a w/e night back in the day (lol) .. Pronounced Shin-ja ku' ..
Ya I've been here many times over the years. But, it's been a decade or so. 100 countries plus, I haven't been back to Japan in awhile.
@@EagerExpat I love Yokohama .. I liked Sapporo Beer, Yakisoba, Yakitori & the Noodle & Beer Houses ..The basic customary Greetings, simple yes/ no, please / thanks, goes a long way there .. Kyoto / Nara are amazing .. There's a little island down there, Miya Jima, that's amazing .. Enjoy ..
@@EagerExpat That's a lot (195 countries in the world) ..
@@enzos711 Japan is always a good time
@@enzos711 Ya, I used to get a little crazy collecting countries. Fly in to Kenya and fly out 20 countries later in South Africa. These days I take things a little slower. Take a look around. Plus a dozen countries I've visited are gone today. I've been back to Croatia, etc.. But, there is so much to see. Travel is in my blood. I was born on Guam and lived on three bases before I was three.
3:18 nice catch
