    I’m semi new to mtg. But when we say removal is that just sorceries and instants or are we also talking about creature effects like annihilator?

  • @chimarielucie
    @chimarielucie 2 часа назад

    I see a lot of people who advocate for lots of removal say that it creates dynamic and interesting games, but I've literally never seen this happen. I personally think removal feels really bad, especially because theres so many different kinds and not as much protection against all the different kinds of removal. At some point it can really feel like no one is playing the game. I'd rather a game with no removal whatsoever than one where each person has 20+ pieces of removal. They slow the game down, ESPECIALLY board wipes. My playgroup has soft banned symmetrical board wipes when they don't lead to a win. We had a game where there were 3 in 3 turns and it was miserable. So yes, run more removal if you want a better deck. But it won't always make the game more fun or dynamic.

    I find that the more removal I run the more I have in my hand. Which is great if my game plan is to remove things. But when you have a hand full of removal and can't do my thing, how is that more consistent? I suggest you put in more interaction, whether it is removal, card draw or protection. That is the toolbox you need for more situations.

    Biggest deck building change I've done is actually running less removal and more card advantage. If my deck is faster than everyone else's then I can beat them to the punch, have better midgames, and can recover faster from board wipes. I've had a lot more fun "focusing" on my gameplan rather than "worrying" over someone else's

    sorry but running 18 removals is gonna gimp your deck. You actualy need to do what your supposed to, and you took up a third of your deck with cards to prevent others. With that much, youll draw into alot of dead hands with nothing but removal. Whats your plan at that point? pick up, or hope you dont get merced before you can draw anything you need.

It was absolutely miserable.

    I already played Lagrella to good success before this video, specifically because she is a great enabler for blink decks and also plays as removal (and you can blink Eternal Witness!) but looking at her as a consistent removal spell makes me choosing her make much more sense

    • @MAndrews976
      @MAndrews976 День назад

      I, too, created a Lagrella deck with the plan of using her to accrue more blink value. However, the consistent availability of removal she provides is a menace to most tables. She also facilitates a combo plan that ends the game rather than draws out oppressive locks.

    This is definitely a thing that people need to do but with my playgroup and card shop when I played frequently I won SIGNIFICANTLY more than other players even when we swapped to each others decks with more or less removal and winning MORE when I wasnt using my own deck. People should not only run more answers but learn what ACTUALLY needs to be answered and when. So many people answer shit they dont need to answer with their precious few counters or removal letting someone else win right after because they wanted something gone that wasnt anywhere near a threat yet or because it was mildly annoying.

  • @WokedOx

    You and everyone with this opinion are thinking way too much, removal doesnt maje your deck more consistant, every deck no matter the strategy is limited by card draw, no matter what, you said it in the control area but, all of my decks have 5 removal pieces, and 2 board wipes, all my decks are super consistent and im never lacking removal. I just add more card draw or velocity.

    That is litterally the only reason why rograkh son of rohgahh is one of the best commanders in cedh. (Okay without partner he would probably be unplaybel) but the value he provides is unmatched. Turning on mana rocks like Springleaf drum, Mox amber or paradise mantle or "If you control a commander" effects or simply as sacrifice for Card draw, Mana or tutor effects in turn 1 is extreme advantage in tempo and value. The partner is only there for additional colors. Silas Ren gives you U/B and nothing more Tymna W/B and card draw and thrasios G/U and ramp/draw and an outlet for mana and the best combination is with Silas ren because of his colors I have never even seen a Silas in play. great video you got some really good insight into the format

    ok i just saw the expensive rocco deck. i have one question because i have never seen someone use that card before you. fallaji wayfarer seems like a way to filter infinity tokens to rocco mana. that is my guess at least. if that is the case, if you already have infinite creatures what is the next step? in general great deck, i have build a 30 to 50 euro variant and usually is able to win at turn 5 or 6 in goldfish. the idea was the same, put cards in the there that allow me to win.

    i bought my tymna after 6 years of playing the game. so now i used her in casual. that card is insane. categorically insane. also i build a janky oops all the blinking engines with the curve of non ramp starting at 4. the deck was horrible. then i put tivit at the command zone... the deck is insane for what it is. in battlecruiser they cannot touch me late game. the amount of resources tivit ensures are bananas. commanders are so strong these days that i would argue that stax pieces like dranith shouldn't be that hated.

    I love a Commander that facilitates a strategy, but in a non-obvious way that can often take the other players by surprise. Xyris combat tricks tied to Impact Tremors effects, Jodah Archmage Eternal using a looping Grozoth 9-CMC tribal combo, Marisi combat ramp (ie., cards like Radha and Savage Ventmaw) with MLD finishers, etc.

    If I have to run 20 removal, 15 card draw and 35 lands to be able to stop getting pub stomped... what's the point in even playing at all? Is there even a deck left to actual play if I'm trying to have some sort of theme, or synergy while still having some ramp and I have to squeeze all that in to 30 cards total? ( because we just spend 70 cards, on removal, draw and lands... )

  • @toromisher
    @toromisher 2 дня назад

    One of my favorite unique removal combos is ghyrson starn, grafted exoskeleton, and tectonica hazard/end festivities. It can push towards a poison counter win as well as killing all 3 toughness creatures even if they are indestructible. Then you can always cast the other sorcery to kill 6 toughness while also adding more poison counters. Just the best of both worlds into an eventual grapeshot for the win xD

  • @Alice_Haukea
    @Alice_Haukea 2 дня назад

    As well composed as this video is, I fear the reality of the topic is that no two play groups will agree on what is or isn't casual. The local shop I go to weekly is absolutely casual. The shop isn't even a sanctioned MTG shop. We just hang out and play. At this shop, most of the players have decks that prioritize flavor over consistency. Theme over function. A common trait is that most players here have decks with insufficient interaction spells. In turn, this has created an interesting off shoot in deck building logic on my end. I'm still kinda bad at deck building myself, but I believe I'm getting better slowly. And I also believe that I'm improving more than most others at the shop since my goal is to actually improve the deck, not remain stagnant with a cute theme. In an effort to keep in line with the tone of the shop, I've begun to force myself to learn how to build decks that DON'T rely on overpowered staples. My favorite commander is Indominus Rex Alpha. As a sultai commander, I have access to a lot of powerful cards- Rhystic Study, Demonic Tutor, Worldly Tutor, Fierce Guardianship ETC. I'm not running any of those. Yes, my deck would be much stronger with Mystic Remora and Rhystic Study, but for a casual setting I sure as heck don't need them. There was no reason for me to over tune with power cards when the play group overall is not on that level. Where my deck is currently puts it at roughly a 30% win rate at the shop. I'm a little more consistent than the other decks purely because I'm constantly making adjustments and improvements without going overboard though. But I've also checked with my group, they are OK with my deck as it is. They don't feel oppressed, and my win rate isn't ridiculous either. The problem however is that I don't feel comfortable going to another shop that is more serious. My deck actually has less interaction than it should as well because Im relying on my creatures themselves to offer late game value that out grinds the interaction. But significant vulnerabilities remain naturally.

      There's another MtG content channel named Baumi who has a video talking about a commander deck he used to played centered around Norin the Wary. Norin wasn't actually the commander, it was built using Rocco, Cabaretti Caterer. You build a board state of card draw and other effects that check when a creature enters on your side, and around turn 4 or 5 you cast Rocco to tutor Norin into play. After that every turn that someone casts a spell or attacks, it triggers Norin's self-exile. So it was functionally a Blink deck in Naya colors.
