in black, you can protect your commander with "boomerang" effects like Malakir Rebirth. If your commander dies, it returns immediatly, there are 10 instants that do this, 6 of wich are 1 mana
1 mana instant protection spells for commanders are such an underrated class of cards! I started playing them in all of my decks so much that my friends make fun of me lol

A lot of removal is exile sadly so these haven’t been as consistent as other colors. In mono black I use Malakir rebirth for it but in multi color I just avoid using them as protection all together
I just built a Yahenni deck and it is a lot of fun! Much less aristocrats-focused than yours because I didn’t want another generic black sacrifice deck. Very unique and cool card/deck!
I did the same thing, I changed my Ayara devotion deck to Vogar, Necropolis Tyrant Voltron/Sacrifice. I prefer him to Yaheeni because even if they remove him, the card draw puts you so much ahead that you probably win anyway. Also he is such an outsider, only something around 300 decks on EDH, give that guy some love 🖤
ugh i really hate how my playgroup convinced me into not playing force edict anymore. its because of channels like "the command zone" that have this huge hate towards sacrifce decks that guys in my group picked up on. "oh it slows the game to a crawl, and its way too controlling and staxy", meanwhile these guys play free counterspells and ghostly prison pillowfort effects. i think imma hit my playgroup with this deck cause i have all the pieces for it and it sounds really fun and efficient to do.
It isn’t even edicts, it’s explicitly grace pact. Grave pact has always sucked to play against tbh, but fleshbag effects have always been fair game it’s just removal
Sounds like your play group needs to play against people outside the group and learn about other magic strategies. If you get too locked in to what you’re comfortable with, you become resistant to adapting to new strategies from you opponents and end up bitching that you can’t beat them. Not you or them specifically, just anyone in general
Since the card was spoiled I wanted to run The Necrobloom, it’s a fun landfall card that can do a lot. But my biggest problem is that necrobloom does not have blue which has some of the best Synergies with landfall. My solution? Find a commander with all of the colors I wanted and build the entire deck around the theme with necrobloom as my secret commander. It made my deck feel so much more fun to play and honestly made the deck more consistent overall.
This deck is awesome by the sounds of it. It REALLY remind me of my relationship with Bane, Lord of Darkness. I really want to make this commander work but much like your devotion deck, I didn’t want to just sit around. I wanted to utilize cards like Fleshbag Marauder and Queza, Auger of Agonies but in truth it didn’t do much until you stumbled upon one of the combos I put in. Then win on the spot. So boring but without a big monster like Yahenni to rely on, to get the same effect I would have to change the whole decks strategy. Maybe I’ll go with token producers, doublers, and anthems? Anyways very interesting video!
Black is likley the most versatile. It just takes a bit of time to learn Black's way of doing things. Imp's Mischief can be used against counterspell... but Black's answer to counterspells is usually proactive like discard such as Thoughtseize or Duress or you use things like Cavern of Souls. Otherwise, there are revive cards like Undying Malice, Feign Death, Undying Evil, etc. To get right of enchantments, you need to use cards like sacrifice nonland permanent cards. Few cards are like feed the swarm. You need to realize and change how you look at things when playing black.
I have a really similar story with my mono black deck, but I use Sarevok+Cultist of Absolute Background, added some more cards for drain and life manipulation combo, a lot of edict effects, but mostly its still classic mono black pile. That’s busted)
He is a bit slower than yahenni but Ob Nixilis Unshackled is really fun too. Gets big like Yahenni but trades off protection for tutor hate which is fun.
Yeah i have to build this too now, also i would love if you could update your tana//ishai list or tell me what would you Swap dockside with ty and great vid as always man
So far my pod still plays with the banned cards because we are so used to playing them. I have been testing both battle hymm and jeskas will in its place!
Hey I got a question, how would I better utilise my first and only commander deck, it is a Ghalta and Mavren midrange aggro big stompy dinosaur tribal. Any tips on how I could better define my strategy. Btw recently found this show, it is awesome to watch keep up the good work : D
I maybe missunderstood what you wanted to do but didnt you aim for this to be your new high powered deck? If so, why not include Daughti Voidwalker, Opposition Agent, Orkish Bowmasters, Deadly Rollick, The One Ring, Demonic Tutor, Vampic Tutor, Dark Ritual, Necropotence, Toxic Deluge, Grim Hireling? What is also pretty confusing is why you run such a low amount of ramp/rocks. I dont get why you left out Ashnods and Phyrexian Altar aswell as Reassembling Skeleton, Pawn of Ulamog and Bloodsoaked Champion. This opens up so many infinite combos for you. Right know this list doesnt look anything like high power but more like a super fair casual list.
@@Cerebrosum If you play with strangers and tell them you want to play high power and then play this deck, you are not going to have a good time and neither do they. @@Cerebrosum I agree that it can be a reference point issue and I am glad you pointed it out. I am certain you can build this commander in other ways and still compete in high power, I just wanted to give some input and thoughts on the deckbuilding from a perspective of someone who mostly plays high power and cEDH. Obvious combos and some super strong cards are just an idea. High power also gives birth to some decks that are absolutely not obvious. Right now I am building a Pantlaza flicker deck with only two other dinos instead of building a tribal deck like the majority of players.
@@avall0nNn1992 Thank you for your response. I think you're right and that it's about perspective how to build for high power. It really is a world of difference in commander between power and truly powerful. And as you point out, even in the upper echelons there is room to break how people expect a commander to be built and novel ways to use cards. I've certainly never thought of a combo-y cEDH Pantlaza deck before! That sounds sweet Lastly I do apologize for my initial very curt comment. also, how wasnt your "i draw 3 cards each turn extremly consistently, from turn 3, or maybe even turn 2, onwards" commander a powerhouse from the get go? also, i think tutoring for Gary every time isnt really something i wouldnt call "boring". you underestimate black protection. a "Until end of turn, target creature gains “When this creature dies, return it to the battlefield tapped under its owner’s control" type effect together with a sacrifice outlet is able to doge everything exept a boardexile effect. its probaly not the best fit for your deck, but black has the most effiecient single target creature protection in my opinion.
