If you're out on Vancouver Island again next Fall, there will be plenty of spots to start looking. It's just a matter of stepping into the forests like this one, after the rain comes and they start popping up all over the place.

I didn't need to shoot them😂 This was definitely a side mission that turned into a main mission once I saw how many there were. They are a valuable harvest for me too. I now know where I'll be heading to next year for harvesting.

It's not too often that I cross paths with others out there. When I do meet someone on the trail, we usually have just enough room to pass by each other. Sometimes you need to drive in the ditch a bit.

Thanks, Chris😁 Yes, I didn't have to fire one shot to harvest these😃 They have a slight apricot aroma and google says they have a peppery flavor that some people describe as lightly fruity. These mushrooms can only be harvested in the wild. They have not found a way to farm them successfully. I did a number of things with my mushrooms this year (I got some other hauls too). Mainly I can them for future use (they get cut up, boiled, and then put in jars for pressure canning). I also did an olive oil and vinegar marinate with them that I hot bath canned. I did 5 jars of pickled mushrooms that I hot bath can. I dehydrated some and this year I ground them up from that into a powder so that I can add it o homemade soups to give it an umami flavour. Some I dry fried, then added some butter to cook them up, then vacuum sealed them and froze. They are best dry fried and then add butter and a little salt. Eaten fresh. I just can't eat 14 pounds at once, lol😂 As for my general use of them, I make egg wraps in the morning for breakfast so I'll have some mushrooms there. For lunch, I'll make a homemade soup and the mushrooms will be included with other veggies and a meat. Depending on what I'm having for dinner, they may make an appearance there too. They are a healthy addition to my diet so I love to get them when I can.

@agesadventures they certainly are a healthy addition. Pressure canning, Vacuum packed, dehydrated, sounds like you have a great prepper setup there Age, kudos to you. If I picked any shrooms I'd either be tripping or dead. It is great to have that fresh supply. Nice one Age.

@@chrisbentleywalkingandrambling Well, I originally purchased the pressure canner for my soup stocks, stews, and chillis. The jars were cracking in the freezer and I was running out of space in there. So that is how that investment started. The vacuum sealer, a FoodSaver brand, I got for packaging my hunt harvests. Grouse and any deer. I also use it for bulk packages of meats from the grocery store. The dehydrating I do in the oven. I don't have a food dehydrator at this time. I'm just not sure which one to get. I think I'd make good use of one. But you're right, it seems like a prepper setup. It's not so crazy to go down that path if I wanted to ever since we had the pandemic and the crazy shortages that there were. The thing with Chanterelles is that they are very easy to identify. I'm very careful with what I pick up for other types.
