There's one that I saw that uses an actual chain like you may see in a chainsaw that has these 2 grip handles. Seems it's up there as far as cutting with something like maybe a bunch saw, a silky or a few others. I forget who makes this now & where you can get one.
@@eventsmorewithchrisg Hi Chris😁 Yeah, this wire saw is not really meant to be cutting logs. This Wednesday, I show me trying the same log with pocket chainsaw, so the one with the chainsaw cutting chain and the nice grip handles. I'd still say my Silky BIGBOY 2000 is my go to saw when I'm out in the woods.
What a coincidence as I was just looking at those at Canadian Tire the other day! Didn't get one as I wanted to check YT first. Seems most do say not really made for too much thicker than a thumb, but they do eventually cut through. If I have to work too hard, I'd be tempted just to light the whole felled tree and fire and call it a warm night! LOL
I think your plan of lighting the whole tree on fire is a better option😂 Yeah, it does indeed work, but at what cost. You spend all that time and energy. These must have been originally made for another purpose that they work really well for. Don't buy one of these unless you're planning to add this to your exercise regime😀
Loved it! It looked promising at the very beginning but it quickly became apparent it's not very useful, at least for logs that large in diameter. I hope you do more reviews like this - testing of the cheaper types of gear that are tempting to buy but may not work as advertised. 👍👍
Thanks, Daryl😁 Yeah, at the start, I was thinking, "Wow, this really cuts" and then as I kept sawing, I realised that it was going to take a whole lot of time and effort to cut one small log. I don't mind testing the cheaper gear. It's something that I can afford😀 I'll keep looking for things to test. Let me know if you have something you think I should test😊
I always love your honest reviews. Totally agree with your review of this. If you were in a true survival situation, the amount of effort you'd have the expend to use that thing would not be worth it. You got your workout for the day with that saw!
Thanks, Sara😁 Honesty is the best policy for reviews. Plus I don't know how this can be shown as a fantastic tool. I 'm sure there are specific scenarios where this comes in handy, but not for cutting pieces of wood this size. I got a good workout that day. I'll stick to my other saws for clearing the trail though😀
Maybe it's not meant for sawing, but as a way to warm you up, lol😁 These are not the greatest survival saw! I'm sure they have a use that they are good at, but cutting small logs like this is not it! I had fun trying this out though😀 I may have to get one of those survival kits and test them out.
Glad you tried that out for me. It's another one of those things that I often wondered about but never could bite the bullet to purchase. I think I'd rather carry my folding saw.
I'm happy to help😁 Was it worth the money...maybe if the video goes viral and I get a whole bunch of ad revenue, lol😂 A folding saw is a much better way to go. I have one in my pack. I carry the Silky BIGBOY 2000. It's extra weight, but it has cut many, many trees and branches out of the way.
Yes, this would only be good for small branches. It's certainly not good for bigger sized logs. It as a good test and now I know that I'll stick to my folding saw😁
LOL😂 Yes, a few 6 packs would have helped with the morale😁 I can honestly say the saw worked, but it took a lot of effort to get it as far as I got it. I'll have to see if I can find a better use for that saw. Cutting firewood is not it😀
Hello 🙋♂️ my friend. Thank you for video. I had such a saw, but the rings pressed too much on my fingers, it was not convenient for me to saw, so I do not use it
Hello😀 Yes, the rings really did press into the fingers and they were sore afterwards. I was almost going to try using gloves to see if that helped, but by then I had been sawing for a long time and decided that it still would have been too much effort to cut through that small log. I'll stick to my folding saw which is much easier to use and a lot less effort. I'll need to find another use for the wire saw.
Not a great option for carrying with you. If I didn't have anything at all, then this may come in handy. It could be a bit dangerous if you get your fingers caught in there.
Lets just say i wouldn't trust it to get the wood done for my outdoors winter fire and keep me alive haha. But i guess it works as one would expect for a tiny cheap peace of kit... Like You said, it's small and lightwait so nothing wrong if someone wants it in the backpack. Thank for the effort Age 😁, and for sharing here with us 👍🏻🪚😎
Yeah, I would not want to have to cut firewood with this thing! There must be some kind of good use for it. I'll think about it. Thanks for taking a look😁
Thanks! Good to know - I was wondering when I saw this video pop up if it would be something small that would help me clear fallen trees off roads should I encounter them. I can see that the answer is nope! 😆 I didn't think it would help with really big stuff, but the one you picked out to try is what I was thinking it might be good for. Hmm, even if you were cutting little stuff for firewood it would take forever to make multiple cuts.
Yeah, this one should be a very last resort. I wouldn't wish this on anyone to have to cut any sort of wood for a fire. Get a Silky Saw BIGBOY 2000 if you're thinking of carrying someone the clear fallen trees off the road. I use that in quite a lot of my videos. It's a great saw.
I'm happy to provide some laughs😁 It really was a crazy amount of work to make it as far through that log as I did. I should have put some Benny Hill music to it or something like that😀
@@agesadventures I saw some "Benny Hill" incidental music from the show where there was this one tune that, after it was sped up & put into the skits, it was a riot. I forget the tune's name now but if you look up Benny Hill incidental music, it's the last one on the list of the 5 they used!
I've been eyeing up a few of those survival tins...maybe I should pull the trigger and test them out too😁 I'm sure there is a great use for these types of saws, but cutting small logs is not one of them😂
That may make it a lot easier on the fingers! It still takes way too long to make this useful. Another commented said it would be easier to just burn the tree in place, lol😂
yo buddy the reason that was taking you so long to saw was you didn't have the tree limb firmly secure, it moving with the sawing with reduce a lot of your effort to just vibrating it.
That will get the cardio up . Maybe if you stood on it and pulled up while sawing . Still though. You'd expect more . I have seen saws like that with more grit to them. More like a mini chain saw .
Yeah, it's a great workout, lol😁 It was still going to go slowly. I would have liked the piece I was sawing to me more steady in place but I don't think that affected the performance too much. I've seen better saws too. I try one out, in my video next Wednesday😀
Yes, it's an excellent workout! That may be the only thing it's good for, lol😂 I think the saw on a Swiss Army Knife would be better. Yeah, I prefer to carry around my Silky saw.
Those suck......try the one with a real chainsaw blade on it they are so much better. But if you're going out in the woods a foldable saw or buck saw are more reliable.

It was certainly a lot of work to use. I guess it technically works, but would you want to expend all that energy?
Yep,both Delmar and I got one a couple years back and you can't really do much with them. Thanks for letting others know though.
I honestly didn't think it would do much, but I had to try😁
