Don't beat yourself up Age. Maybe you'd have had a crack at it, maybe not. Just take in the lesson that deer aren't necessarily spooked by traffic. There are roads out here in the Fraser Valley that have vehicles go by every couple minutes and still many deer get taken right on the road or just off to the side, cutblocks along the way, etc. The best bet though is to get yourself out in the timber. Transition areas like 100 meters into the timber from a cutblock or meadow. Find the major trails, benches and bedding areas. Park yourself in a good concealed position, or creep through quietly still hunting (move 10 meters, conceal leaning against of tree, watch and listen of movement, repeat all day) Use the can call if you accidentally snap a stick (I find it's more for calming deer versus calling them in) ... after you've been in place for 20 mins and things have calmed down and sound natural, a light rattle just to mimic some bucks locking antlers (not a big fight) can draw them in (mid October to December) ... if you can, go explore that patch of timber the buck went into (and any other patch of timber around that cut) and you'll find trails and beds I'm sure. Then let the road hunters push the deer into you. Digging your vids man, especially the mushroom ones. Learned a lot there and you inspired me. Thanks!!
Thanks, man😁 Yeah, it was a good lesson to learn! I'll need to remember to be more alert when I jump out of the Jeep from now on. I don't know how long I could remain in position just waiting (I could do an hour before I'd get antsy). I'd get bored or maybe fall asleep, lol😃 I like your suggestion for the still hunting (10 metres and stop, listen and wait). Using the can call to calm the deer if I snap a stick is something I'm going to try. I'll try the light rattling. I definitely want to check out the timber where the buck went. He's got a trail down there that he is using so I want to see what's there. There is snow up in the mountains there now so I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it up there this weekend or not. Hi Age no luck mate with the shoot but a grand day in the mountains mate 👌🏻🤠 What cal do you shoot when hunting deer 🦌? .243 win ? Or something heavier? ATB Simon 👍🤠
It really was a great day out there even if I wasn't able to bring home any animal friends🦌 I have a .308 for big game hunting. I chose that caliber because it is the most common one so ammunition prices would be lower. Ever since the pandemic, prices have skyrocketed for ammunition here. I'd say they are double or even a little bit more now. My ammunition value went up faster than my savings, lol😂 I wouldn't mind getting other caliber rifles, however, I'll need to source a better price on bullets then.
@ yes same here Age ammo is so expensive and stocks of ex nato 7.62 (308) have all but dried up and 303 is also hard to get expensive and to be honest unreliable now! As we no the know 99% of production in the US and UK most lightly Canada is being stockpiled (a somber thought)
@SetForAdventures yeah, there certainly was a run on stocks during Covid and then whenever there was a gun ban threat in the U.S. I think Global instability causes supply to be inconsistent too. I don't shoot a whole lot, so that is good. If I see a deal on ammo, I'll pick some up so I have it. I wish we made more in Canada to offset prices!
Beautiful area for hiking and hunting next time had that happen to me also you pass someone and you think oh it won’t be nothing for a while but out of the blues there’s always something there 🦌
Yeah, I just figured we'd both had made too much noise and nothing would be there...lesson learned😁 I'm going to hike in that area down where the deer went. There must be a game trail down there. I'll find out where it goes😃
So far this deer has outsmarted me🦌😁 Deer hunting season is over for me next weekend. I'm sure I'll see him right afterwards coming up to me for pets😂 I haven't seen one of those beetles in a long time. Since I was a you kid and used to enjoy digging big holes in the back yard and then coming back to them the next day to see what fell in them😃 There will be more Jeep rides out there coming up. It's such a great place to explore! Glad you enjoyed it😊
Thank you, John😁 The black-tailed deer are pretty hard to spot on Vancouver Island so I'll still take this as a little victory. It was nice to see one out there! I'll keep trying😃
Professionals hunt for trophies, money and bragging rights , amateurs (which is most hunters) hunt for the hunt itself and the meat it may put on the table. The rack is secondary. Maybe many unfilled tags but always the thrill and challenge of the hunt.
That is true! I just really blew it this time though, lol😂 It was right there and instead of looking, I made a whole bunch of noise to scare it off. I think it was actually fine with all my kicking of dirt. I think it didn't like the sound of my voice😁

Beautiful area for hiking and hunting next time had that happen to me also you pass someone and you think oh it won’t be nothing for a while but out of the blues there’s always something there 🦌
Yeah, I just figured we'd both had made too much noise and nothing would be there...lesson learned😁
I'm going to hike in that area down where the deer went. There must be a game trail down there. I'll find out where it goes😃
Our $ is on the deer LOL
Happy Hunting if you win Congrats ✌
Cool bug ...enjoyed the jeep ride see you the next one!

So far this deer has outsmarted me🦌😁
Deer hunting season is over for me next weekend. I'm sure I'll see him right afterwards coming up to me for pets😂
I haven't seen one of those beetles in a long time. Since I was a you kid and used to enjoy digging big holes in the back yard and then coming back to them the next day to see what fell in them😃
There will be more Jeep rides out there coming up. It's such a great place to explore!
Glad you enjoyed it😊
Well the scenery is great Age ive never been hunting rather go fishing tbh lol 👍 nice film 👌 Glyn 🇬🇧
I don't have luck with fishing either, lol😂😂
We've all been busted by the game we were after. Good luck next time out.
Thank you, John😁
The black-tailed deer are pretty hard to spot on Vancouver Island so I'll still take this as a little victory. It was nice to see one out there!
I'll keep trying😃
i hope you will have more lucky next time
Thank you😁
I keep trying! It's worth it to just get in the forest😃😃
@@agesadventures I have never tried hunting with a camera... No doubt not an easy thing.
@@HikeCamp it tends to make it noisier when I 'm travelling through the bush.
Talking to the camera probably doesn't help either😁
But I do get to show the mountain views up there😃
Very nice 👍
Thank you😁
It was a great day to be out in the mountains😃
There could be 10 deer watching you out in that clearcut where you kicked the fire apart. My advice ( I know you didn’t ask) is to get out the binoculars and glass that spot for 30 minutes/hour.
I'll take any hunting advice😁 I only started hunting about 6 years ago and have been trying to learn on my own since. Watching lots of videos and reading lots of posts and then just getting out there doing it.
I'm going to start doing more glassing in places.
