    Roger, you’re my hero. Love all your videos on how to keep older components going. My favorites use the TV you found on the side of the road. I found your videos cause I have a similar issue. First, I am really bad at this stuff…so I’m sorry if I don’t use the right terminology or didn’t understand a previously-described fix.. But I have an older Sharp Aquos (LC-32G4U) that has a HDMI port but no Optic hookup. I have an older JVC home theater receiver (RX-F10S) that has an Optic port but no HDMI. I was running an older Apple TV that had separate Optic and HDMI ports to hook each up to. It worked perfectly. But Netflix ruined it by changing their streaming so the older Apple TV is longer supported after August 1. So I got a new Apple TV 4K (3rd gen). Just to make life difficult, Apple decided to remove the Optic port in the new Apple TV…it only has one HDMI port. I did some research and decided an HDMI Audio Extractor would solve the problem. I was feeling proud of myself. I ran down to Best Buy and got the only one they had, which is the Insignia 4K@60 Ultra HD extractor. I hooked it up as directed (HDMI from Apple TV into extractor and then Optic going out to JVC and HDMI going out to Sharp). The result was the TV showed static and went to a black screen with a message box stating “an incompatible video signal has been received”. No video, no audio. Nothing. I researched more and tried recommendations on unplugging, rehooking up, adjusting settings, rebooting, etc. Nothing worked. So much for feeling proud of myself. I watched your videos and thought they were great. But I either didn’t see or understand anything directly on point. Any ideas you have would be greatly appreciated. And thanks again for all the videos and trying to help us out with this stuff. It is much appreciated. Jesse

    Not sure why to do in my case. I have an older Sony TV with HDMI ins and optical….no ARC. I have a Yamaha soundbar with hdmi Earc and optical. When I had cable tv, I connected my soundbar to the cable box with optical and the cable box to tv with hdmi. The cable box passed the DD and DTS signals to sound bar. Everything worked fine. I dropped cable and got a ROKU stick that I connect to TV. I have optical from tv to soundbar. I do get sound, but no longer get DD or DTS. I guess the tv won’t pass these signals. Any ideas?

    I had a Sony Bravia 32-inch old model TV and a Sony HT-IV300 surround system. I used to watch movies using a USB drive, and the souny system worked perfectly. However, when I replaced my TV with a Sony Bravia 2 smart TV, I started getting low sound from the audio system even at maximum volume.I tried every method you suggested, but it still hasn't helped. • @rogergadgetguy
      @rogergadgetguy День назад

      Yes there is. I tried it for myself to make sure. The HDMI ARC adapter I show in the video has an optical output and an analog audio output through RCA connectors. Use the RCA outputs for the speaker audio and connect the optical output to a bluetooth transmitter like the one in this video. ruclips.net/video/Tz6wSNouxlE/видео.html The nice thing is the volume controls for the two paths are completely independent. You control the speaker volume with the TV remote and it does not affect the headphones, which you control from the headphones themselves or the bluetooth transmitter.

    • @rogergadgetguy
      @rogergadgetguy 2 дня назад

      Hi Mike Thanks for commenting, I appreciate you watching so carefully. The lighting problem is due to led backlights which were installed as part of a restoration, their fast response means that they strobe on and off at 60Hz which is not visible to the naked eye, but forms interference patterns with the camera scanning on video. I will get a wooden case for the Marantz sometime though, it does sound wonderful. B.T.W. Bluetooth is not the only option for phone audio on a vintage reciever, and for something as nice as a Marantz receiver, I'd normally use a WiFi streamer for even better sound. Watch out for future videos.

    I just found your channel today and subbed. I just use headphone amps on a couple of my vintage systems and hook them up just like you did using the tape monitor. • @rogergadgetguy

      That's a great idea, and the Sabaj A10h is a very good solution. It seems it's not available anymore though, and the A20h has XLR balanced outputs. Unfortunately most headphone amps do not come with remote controls. There are other options though. They're good topics for a future video.

    • @rogergadgetguy
      @rogergadgetguy 2 дня назад

      @@nerdynumen Hi, for a $500 budget with subwoofer I would stick with the amp in the video it is really good for the price, and features a pre- out connection, which works well for a subwoofer. Just use a 3.5mm to RCA stereo cable. One catch is the pre amp out is stereo, and many subs only have a mono input. You can just take one side and use that, but it’s far from optimum. Do not try to combine the two outputs with some kind of Y cable that’s very bad practice even if you find it sorta kinda works. Much better to buy a sub with stereo inputs. One choice within your budget is the Dayton Audio Sub 800 It’s $140 I’ve tested it sounds great is not too huge and has versatile connections. If you stayed with the Neumi Speakers then you’d be at $110 under your budget and have a really great value, For the $100 you could buy a wireless link for the sub to give you more flexibility in placement. It is a very good sounding system. If you wanted to upgrade from this, and stay within your budget you could either Upgrade the Sub to something that went deeper with more power. This would be the best option if you want to watch action movies in a large room. The Klipsch Synergy Black Label Sub-100 would put you right at your budget at their current sale price. Your other option is to change speakers. To step up from the Neumi’s you would have to move to something like the Elac BS41-BK. With the Dayton Sub you’d have a great sounding system for a smaller room, or for if you share a wall ceiling or floor with a neighbor. The complete system will come in around $460. Another option the Elac Debut 2.0 b5.2 which occasionally comes on sale for $199 and at that price would be the very best sound you can get for your budget Dayton Sub www.parts-express.com/Dayton-Audio-SUB-800-8-80-Watt-Powered-Subwoofer-300-627?quantity=1 Elac Speakers www.amazon.com/ELAC-4-Passive-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B08W9B2DBL?th=1&linkCode=ll1&tag=rogergadgetgu-20&linkId=1bed55e705550629a975ff38cddfa3c1&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_tl Klipsch Sub www.amazon.com/Klipsch-Synergy-Black-Sub-100-Subwoofer/dp/B07VR24V4V?crid=1Q19P0IMOK573&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.2eE1iXFG4AqwmmDfX9hCDEzWwp9tV1kaWouMNxgnJmAVkEIh0HqBPrsR_2GoCuqTo07oZHdnKAaX0KRM0m5Q0EAAr6-UUgo0xxyZItxkA6Sp4oR5TV4oyNq3zcVzk0I7h31pu7k2vp6pI9pkTmI3UBDYJZV0lwrLWZPdYCIdoowdO8yA1z_3vFc_MLKxRehdKvPId7WCxZiDQLG6GLtYdG1WFffy2AgPQnl7rIsXoH8.PNoMJtGui_euS_o1Ie9jH-6aBXD3ZR1KCqqenTx81do&dib_tag=se&keywords=dayton+audio+sub-800&qid=1721419407&sprefix=Dayton+Audio+subwoofers%2Caps%2C182&sr=8-12-spons&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.f5122f16-c3e8-4386-bf32-63e904010ad0&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9tdGY&psc=1&linkCode=ll1&tag=rogergadgetgu-20&linkId=ad9076b7284fc312b471e28357eb7122&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_tl

    • @rogergadgetguy
      @rogergadgetguy 2 дня назад

      The connections on this Bose system are confusing because the video and audio go to different Boxes. The video from the DVD can go to the Aux video intput on the VS2 and the audio to the Aux audio input on the Stereo. The Audio system does not support ARC so use the optical output on the TV connected to the optical input on the Stereo. Change the digital audio out mode to PCM in the TV settings so that Dolby digital programming will play on your stereo.

    Hello Roger. I'm tearing my hair out. I have connected everything up but multiple reads of manuals for both and am still mystified. The thing that no-one seems to cover what settings need to be made and how to make the changes. I'm an old bloke so most of the settings have such arcane acronyms and names that I feel dumb. I'm in Australia and have Kogan brand TV with bells and whistles. No idea what the TV engine is but suspect its a Samsung type. The Receiver is a Pioneer AV VSX-522 manufactured in 2013. All the cable types , HDMI (ARC & eARC), OPTIC and RCA, have been installed tested and not worked and then uninstalled. Cold boots and factory resets. Still nothing. The Receiver though old has never been used. It was given to me by an old friend still in its box as he could never figure out how to set it up. I can't even get the Setup menu of the Receiver to show on my TV despite following the manual instructions to the letter. I enjoy your you erudite instructional YT videos. Please help if possible. Hi, What a nightmare, so frustrating. The HDMI ARC will not work because it needs to be turned on, and to turn it on you need the Setup menu If you can't do the setup the receiver is not very useful so that is the first step. I found the manual for your receiver online and OMG WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!!!!! The setup menu can only be accessed through the composite video output (The yellow RCA connector labelled monitor out) I doubt there were many TVs built since your receiver was made that have this type of input so this is quite the Gotcha. Watched your very helpful videos but can't figure out why my streaming apps still won't play through my stereo. When the tv is changed to the streaming apps can still hear the tv channel coming through my speakers even when the ARC port is not being used...driving me nuts. Tried every setting on the tv and receiver until I'm thorougly outdone. It's probably something simple but will wrestle with it another day. Didn't want to switch from my old tube tv because had it set up to work perfectly through my receiver but that tv finally died...may it rest in peace but being sorely missed at this point.

      I agree 10-20$ per month is too much for a screen mirror app. It’s better to pay the one-time cost of an HDMI device that will work with any phone. There is one that costs only $15. It will screen mirror from any Android phone using the google home app. which is free. The device is the Onn TV streaming stick. I show in the video how to mirror to TV’s that have Chromecast built in the Onn stick works exactly the same. www.walmart.com/ip/onn-Google-TV-Full-HD-Streaming-Device-New-2023/2262757145?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=0&wl13=1755&gclsrc=aw.ds&adid=222222222772262757145_117755028669_12420145346&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=501107745824&wl4=aud-2225087347667:pla-394283752452&wl5=1014129&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=8175035&wl11=local&wl12=2262757145&veh=sem_LIA&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwkdO0BhDxARIsANkNcrf4zR-6S8h6X6TGGmDkRPY5OkmZ2olIPj0U7gbNjW0QQh_y8AYZIdsaApDrEALw_wcB

      @rogergadgetguy 7 дней назад

      It is without question true that you can get better quality sound from a direct wired connection or from lossless streaming over wifi. Bluetooth has the advantage universal wireless compatibility. Any app, any phone, and any bluetooth audio device, work with wireless convenience, this and the low cost account for it's popularity. Like any other connection method sound quality is very dependent on speakers and other equipment. I know many people who are very happy with the sound quality they get with bluetooth. Some actually prefer the sound they get through bluetooth earbuds compared to CD's played on a stereo. I really enjoy the stereo in my Truck which uses a bluetooth connection. In the right system and the rght circumstances bluetooth can sound really good, certainly better than horrible.

  • @brois841

    Uhmmm.... hate to be Debbie Downer, but for this to work you need to use acoustically transparent canvas, which most prints aren't. This will be a marginal change at best. Hang more canvas art, without the backing and it'll contribute more to sound suppression. Get a rug, curtains, etc... lots of improvements can be made which will look great and contribute much more significantly to your acoustic nirvana ;)

    • @rogergadgetguy
      @rogergadgetguy 13 дней назад

      Firstly, thanks for commenting. I really appreciate the feedback. I completely agree that rugs, heavy drapes and things like furniture placement will have a bigger effect on the sound than an acoustically absorbing piece of art on the wall, check out this video that gets into all those things; ruclips.net/video/F_g9wHTfF44/видео.html The reason I made the video in the link is because the sound of my stereo in my room at home is so lifelike and compelling that friends family and neighbors often ask me what equipment should they buy to get music to sound as good in their homes. In nearly all cases I have to tell them they’d be wasting their money unless they fix their room acoustics and that if they did that, they’d probably be happy with the HiFi they have. I found that some people are perfectly willing to spend a couple of thousand on a new HiFi system but absolutely adamant about not having a rug or drapes in their room let alone purpose made acoustic panels or diffusers. This is where the video that you commented on can help. They get to pick their own art, and a little attention to acoustics is better than none. To your specific point about the canvas, acoustically transparent fabric would be ideal but if you put a piece of unframed art in front of a speaker, you’ll find that most of the sound does come through. Not all frequencies come through equally but the mix of reflected and absorbed sound acts as a partial diffuser and is quite helpful. It’s much, much, better than a hard flat wall when hung in the right locations.

      Unfortunately not every version of Samsung TV works with every version of Samsung phone . If both your TV and phone are logged in to the same WiFi network and you can't get them to connect then your only option may be add a chromecast device. • @rogergadgetguy

      A Huawei phone should work the same as any other android phone. One possibility for not being able to make a bluetooth connection is that the stereo is connected to something else. There should be some way to manually disconnect from the stereo end like a push and hold of the bluetooth selector button. Alternatively if your Stereo appears in your Saved devices list but it won't connect then click on the little gear wheel next to the name and select "Forget Device" this can sometimes clear a faulty connection. Then Pair the phone and stereo again.

      @rogergadgetguy 19 дней назад

      Hi Fred. In situations when you can't get enough volume it usually means you have more than one independant volume control. It seems like your TV and receiver are working correctly the way they should with the TV remote automatically controlling the volume so that the TV and receiver volume controls act as one. Android TV boxes also have a volume control feature though. Try turing the Android TV volume to maximum, then going into the Remote Control Settings for the Android TV Box, add your TV as a device to control, and then set the Android TV remote to use the TV to control volume (Not the Receiver).
