Important Note: The exact setup shown in this video sounds really good. Some Phono cartridge/preamp combinations have a higher output level than the ones I used. If you experience a popping or crackling sound on loud passages of music, connect a passive volume control between the output of the phono preamp and the aux in of the Wiim Mini. Start with the control fully clockwise and turn counterclockwise one eighth of a turn at a time until the sound is smooth and clear. Once set this volume control should be left in this position and not adjusted further.
This link is for an inexpensive passive volume control that I have tested for this purpose and can recommend. www.amazon.com/dp/B0BJVJYLLP?psc=1&linkCode=ll1&tag=rogergadgetgu-20&linkId=a6e35b4444a39678b07655624b750697&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_tl

Great video. I have a WiiM Mini and a Pro I use for music streaming with Apple Music and SiriusXM but I had no idea they could be used in this manner. Well done!

Can this be used as the interface between a phone and a set of speakers instead of using Bluetooth? I want to get the best sound quality that wireless has to offer. Thanks !!

A Wiim streamer is an excellent way to get top quality wireless music. If you have a really good HiFi system or set of powered speakers, you will definitely hear the difference between a WiFi streamer and bluetooth. To get the best quality use a music service that offers uncompressed music, and make sure you enable the High Quality options in the app settings. Tidal, Qobuz and Amazon Music offer uncompressed music, unfortunately Spotify. and Pandora do not. If you have an Android phone consider the Wiim Pro because it supports Chromecast. The internal DAC ( Digital to analogue converter) in a Wiim Mini or Pro is fine but for real audiophile quality you can add an external DAC connected via the optical output of the Wiim. The S.M.S.L Su-1 is an excellent choice for an affordable DAC. and is a great companion for the Wiim Mini. www.amazon.com/S-M-S-L-MQA-CD-Decoder-AK4493S-768kHz/dp/B0C1Y7C9HH?hvadid=693363874255&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=10977267783511789354&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1014129&hvtargid=pla-2196863832384&psc=1&mcid=bd504c594f1e3672abfde0e33c5385a3&gad_source=1&linkCode=ll1&tag=rogergadgetgu-20&linkId=98a0234e39dbdde633ca8c0889f3e3b1&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_tl

Can it be used to connect to Sonos?

Hi Angus I just helped a neighbor with connecting his turntable to a Sonos system a week ago. If you have a Sonos 5, Era 100 or Era 300 there will be an input on the speaker itself you can use. If you have other types of Sonos speakers or want the turntable located remotely you will need to use a Sonos Port instead of a Wiim Mini. Unfortunately it's 4 times more expensive than the Wiim. (Sonos systems use their own proprietary protocols and don't play nice with other manufacturers gear, and just like Bose systems there are a lot of opinions about Sonos but nobody calls them inexpensive) You will still need a turntable with a phono pre-amp either built in or seperate. I found that the Sonos Port has a setting for input volume (you will find it in the Sonos app). The default value was far too low for my neighbor's turntable and had to be set to the maximum. The system worked well once set up, and my neighbor is very happy with it.
