I just found your channel today and subbed. I just use headphone amps on a couple of my vintage systems and hook them up just like you did using the tape monitor. In my case they are Sabaj A10h units but any brand with RCA ins/outs and remote volume will work. I also have a heavy duty remote power on/off switch. I don't ever have to get up! LOL
That's a great idea, and the Sabaj A10h is a very good solution. It seems it's not available anymore though, and the A20h has XLR balanced outputs. Unfortunately most headphone amps do not come with remote controls. There are other options though. They're good topics for a future video.
On my vintage receiver (Tandberg 2075), and other Tandberg receivers, there is a variable loudness control. Low volume, big impact, mid or high volume, low or no impact. I think this is a great feature, at least for me, that is very useful. My receiver has pre in and pre out, så it is easy to implement such a divice. However, it is the setting of my master volume on the receiver that deceides the impact of the loudness curciut. So in my case, I still have to adjust a little bit on the receiver from time to time, if I want to use the loudness function as used to. Have I understood things correctly, using such a remote volume control device?
I have my amp in a cabinet where you cannot visibly see it. Will the remote be able to control volume through the cabinet or does it need visual sight to the amp/receiver?
This remote is IR and needs line of sight. Products from Wiiim use RF remotes and can be used as a substitute for this device. I made a video that featured the Arylic S10+ configured to give remote control capability to a vintage stereo The Wiim mini has exactly the same connections and may be directly substituted in place of the S10+. The Wiim remote control is purchased seperately and needs to be paired with your Wiim mini before use. This is the video ruclips.net/video/zFye_zsssO4/видео.html just substitute the Wiim mini for the S10+. You also will be able to control the volume through your phone if desired.
I did not hear a degradation in quality on my system but if you had a super higly resolving setup you might hear a change. People who have multi thousand dollar systems, with multi hundred dollar cables would never dream of putting a $40 device in the signal path anyway, but for the rest of us it works great.
Hi. I have a receiver with option to connect two tape decks (a Pioneer SX-780). I currently use the designated Tape 1 play inputs to connect a CD player. (I use the AUX input for a DAC.) can i use the record/play for Tape 2 for this remote volume control? thank you
Hi Yes it will work. I just tested this scenario on a Pioneer SX550 to make sure it did what I expected it to. With the volume control connected to Tape 2, just leave the Tape Monitor 2 button pushed in, The CD connected to Tape 1 and the DAC on Aux will work exactly as they do today.
If you have an eq in your only tape connections. I would connect the eq output to the Volume control input and have the Volume control output go to the tape In/Play
Hi there! What if I just want to invest in the remote control for radio and CD but don’t want to buy the other gadget for making the volume on both the same level, is that possible?
Thanks for the shout out, Roger! Great explanation on how to set up that nifty volume remote :)

Yes you understand perfectly, Variable loudness was a nice feature that was never common and is now almost unheard of.

Beautiful! Thank you!
Hey, great video! Does the quality of analogue interconnects going in and out of the device affect distortion or sound output quality?

@@rogergadgetguy Thanks so much for the reply Roger. Much appreciated.

Hi Nathalia The volume leveller is just a personal preference thing, it is completely optional, and could be added later in any case.
