Remote Volume Controller for Audio Amps & Source Components
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 4 сен 2024
- A simple assembly project using a PC board and IR remote to control a motorized ALPS potentiometer. Useful for amplifiers and source components that do not have remote volume control capability.
Thanks for protecting me from your illnesses & infections. It is much appreciated even though we are not breathing the same air, are not in the same county or even state. Your a PAL. Good JOB dude.
😂
Dont know why chinese supply items without instructions or diagrams. This is second thing i got, no information. Million Thanks to Mr Raymond. Great man.
THANKYOU Raymond I’ve been waiting for someone to build one of these for years ! I’m glad you found one and shared it onRUclips when I had my first house onmy own I rigged up Rubber bands over my Volume knob for grip and I could adjust the volume from my couch using a long stick LOL I took a while to develop the correct touch and at the time I was into Radio Control Airplanes and Cars so I thought about using that circuitry and Servo systems
Thanks for sharing the video.
Ideally. Attach the motor physically to the volume control knob on the Receiver or Amplifier. Let the motor turn the volume control. Any non technical type would buy it. Thanks for the Video.
Totally agree! The motor is attached to a volume controller ( potentiometer) and circuit board and hard to fit inside a component's box. I tried using rubber bands to turn the shaft of a component's potentiometer but motor isn't strong enough.
Not strong enough? I ordered to try this
Great!
great, can you send me a picture of how you did the wiring?
This item can be wired balanced in/out?
Thank you 🙏
Muito bacana
Que pena que vc não mostrou como fez a ligação
boa noite, gostei muito da música...eu amo Jazz
Hello Mr. Soo. Do you sell a completed Volume Controller such as the one depicted in your Video?
No sorry. I'm keeping mine. I use it in lieu of a preamp. Not hard to build.
Thanks Raymond! Just the info I was looking for as I have just obtained the same remote volume. Do you still use it 2 years later?
Still have it. Useful feature.
Where is available?
Mr. Raymond, I would like thank you for this video and hopefully ask you something about this product because I have purchased one and am having problems with it. The problem seems to be with the potentiometer part of it. It powers up. The ohms numbers don't seem to be right after taking a reading like you did. The volume only starts to play at the last 1/10 th of the tavel.
Check the wiring, especially the center-tap. I will check my unit to see which way the inputs & outputs are wired. If you measure resistance of Centertap to either ground or signal point you should see smooth increase/decrease in resistance, not what u r getting.
On my unit, looking from top with pot facing me, ROUT on bottom left side is Red wire from RCA jack (right output), LOUT is White wire (left output), GND & GND are where the shielding wires go. On right side are the input connections. RIN is Red (right input), GND, GND (shielding wires), ROUT is White (left input). Hope that helps.
Hello, Thank you for your video. I've been looking for ways to remotely control my tube preamp. This looks like it will add resistance & capacitance onto the analog signal paths. I'd think it'll change the preamp characteristics. Do you agree?
It will add resistance in series with volume potentiometer of your preamp. Turn preamp volume pot to max to reduce its resistance. I doubt there is a change in capacitance. Compare sound quality with/without the remote volume controller.
What happening when you are push on off button? The sound is muted or, volume turned down to minimum value or something else?
Press 3 sec to turn off. Press 1 sec to turn on or bring up a menu for Reset, Time delay Off or Off.
Thanks. Wonder how long that battery will last if using only once or twice a week.....
Using an AC power supply I notice it resets itself to zero volume each time it's plugged into the wall outlet. Unless you disconnect the battery when not in use, the circuitry is still using a bit of power to "remember" the current volume setting. If you try this, let me know if it works.
i got one of these , soldered 9vdc supply to board............led lights up and flickers when I press vol up or vol down but motor/pot does NOT turn ........any thoughts ???....... i THINK ITS A DUD
Make sure u soldered to the right person connections. Listen close to hear if motor rotates when vol buttons r engaged. I found with a 9v battery, there wasn't enough juice to operate for very long. My wall wart is 7.5W up to 600 mA.
@@AudioTnT ....I have a 12vdc 1amp supply , is that too much voltage ?????
@@jonseeley8263 12v should be fine. I measured my 6v supply which turned out to be 9v. Could be a dud unit.
@@AudioTnT .....i have only tried it with a 9.6vdc supply with 200mah ......hopefully you are right and I need more amperage.....will find out soon
Hello, I want to ask. Could this alps motorized control volume be used as a light dimmer? So I want to make a project to control the lights through the mobile phone and potentisio will follow the change. But i still dont know the wiring. Sorry for my grammar. Thank you
This potentiometer adjusts voltage typically around 2 volts. A dimmer light switch works with AC voltage of 120 v in North America. Answer is 'no'.
@@AudioTnT But I only use five High Power Leds which only have three watts of each
I can understand you amp is quite expensive---but why not just install the motor volume control in place of the manual volume control? I have a much less expensive tube amp that I am considering adding this type controller inside the amp. I suppose one main problem is powering the motor...I will have to see if there is anywhere I can draw power from inside the amp from the existing circuit....
That would be my first choice but not enough room as the motorized vol control is on a PC board. I suppose I could remove the pot and extend leads back to the PC board. The IR detector on the board still needs an opening to see the remote control.
Raymond Soo can you share a link of controler?

Do they make a similar rotary controller that I can mount on an old potentiometer (knob) ?
You mean put this in place of an existing pot in an electronic component? I wish that was possible. The pot has a motor behind it; both would have to be separated from the circuit board, which would be located elsewhere.
@@AudioTnT not instead of a pot but basically having that mechanism that rotate the pot to be rotating an existing pot from the outside, like mounting on it instead of the plastic knob..?
Today I connected shaft from remote controller to volume pot shaft of my preamp using a coupler. Unfortunately the motor is not strong enough to turn the preamp pot.
@@AudioTnT hmm I see.. I was thinking there are definitely some small size motors that can move the knobs from outside? Like the ones design to auto tune guitar tuners? But I guess no company makes them able to latch on to the external part of the knob?
Sorry for all the questions, thanks for your input!
Can you make one for me??
Thanks for compliment. Have no interest in doing this again. Cheers.
mask????????
where can we buy this?
Many online vendors. Here is one ...www.amazon.com/Almencla-Household-Infrared-Amplifier-Potentiometer/dp/B07RGQ9LX5
what other online site is selling like this? there is no available stock at amazon store.
These things are junk. The dial turns slow as heck, one craped out after a couple of hours being on. The other volume dial was so slow it took about 30 seconds to turn the volume all the way up.
Sorry to hear. Mine is still working fine. Bit slow I agree. I measured voltage on my wall wart to make sure it was near 9v. Some give much higher voltalage. I also turn mine off after I set the volume to the level I want.
A to rúško ti je načo🤦♂️
Wearing a mask in your own home while shooting a video?
Why are you wearing a mask?
It was done during Covid pandemic but I guess viruses don't transmit virtually.
