Hello, I'm Shirly and I'm a Nutritionist. At the beginning of my menopause journey, I didn't even know the word perimenopause existed. What I did know, was that I wanted to work with my body and go through menopause naturally.
My aim is to provide you with science-based nutrition and lifestyle approach to empower you to manage menopause naturally or if HRT is not an option for you.
I share information that I've learnt about menopause, how I use my knowledge of functional nutrition to manage menopause symptoms, as well as how to protect your health and well-being into your later years.

COCONUT OIL WORKS
Flaxseed, black eyed peas, green beans, collards, cabbage, chicken. It seems these kinds of foods help my hot flashes and gut. Also, walking 30-45 mins several days per week is great. Thank you.

Sounds good, but they might be a bit sweet and cause hot flushes.

What if I don't eat sugar!
Unfortunately there's so many causes that it would be difficult to know without knowing more about you. What other symptoms do you get?
I’ve got wonderful sleep now. Like you I bought an insulin tester and wanted to check why I was waking up in the middle of night I found my bowels were regular once I worked on this I now sleep all night. Ladies make sure you go everyday so important to help flush out estrogen etc.
That's amazing! I've not used a sugar monitor, but I know that I wake up more when I've had too much sugar or carbs. Which is why I eat lots of protein and vegs to help balance blood sugar. What did your sugar monitor show you?

I appreciate going through menopause naturally isn't for every woman, but then neither is HRT. Which is why personalised care is important during menopause.

Thanks for asking, unfortunately I can't give personalised advice as I don't know anything about you and I might give incorrect advice. It might be worth having a consultation with a qualified practitioner, to find out if probiotics is suitable for you. Hope this helps.
Omg i have coffee all the time
Coffee may be an irritant for some people, as well as a trigger for hot flushes. Which is why I had to cut back to one cup per day and only in the morning.

Please share, how much crucificious vegetables do you recommend per day for a perirnopause diet ?
At minimum I'd say a portion 2-3 x per week. But I tend to have a portion of cruciferous vegs 2-3x per day most days.

I have bloating daily after my breakfast of one poached egg and one toast. I do not take sugar in coffee. I do not eat any sugary foods at all. I eat plenty of greens and herbs daily. No dressing. I cook my own chicken, beef etc. I do not eat takeout or go to restaurants. Still have water retention bloating.
Thank your for reaching out. It sounds like you're doing a lot of the right things. I can't give personalised advice here and it's difficult to know what's going on without knowing more about you. Things to look at may be the amount of salt in your foods, how active you are and whether you're taking any medications. I hope this helps.

I'm allergic to fish, are there any alternatives to Omega fatty acids for women like me?
Fenugreek, flax and chia seeds
There's plenty of other foods to get omega 3 from: nuts and seeds, avocado, olives, olive oil, seaweed (I'm not sure if it will cause you a reaction to seaweed). Hope this helps.
