Slack on Linux - Not Working Correctly?
when did you order it? i have bean waiting for one month now also living in Sweden
What colour did you order? I think the white ISO has not shipped to anyone, not even for review.
That’s long time. It didn’t take long for them to send me. If it’s long time, maybe out of stock for the moment. But will be worth the wait I think.
@@TheOmarTech i ordered the same exact thing as this guy
@@RobertMizen it was in stock when I ordered but now one month later it's out of stock
This was a fun Keyboard to play with. Few updates: - The keyboard wasnt in German, but who ever shipped/reviewed before had keys in the wrong places. - The Keyboard mechanism for opening is screw-less which is great, but the click function means that with a little push you can open it. Thus resulting in the partial opening of the base plate. Really great foundation board for lot of people. Check out Akko here: akkogear.eu/?ref=robertmizen
Great help, thanks!
Glad it helped!
How Many Fps will I get from doing this?
We all know RGB makes things faster.
Can I use this on native linux game repacks such as linux g....s ?
Should be fine. It’s a system tool. As long as you can have it run while the game runs.
Finally, a clear, simple and modest troubleshooting video regarding display HUD issues that actually works. The grandiose Linux guys would have this explanation running for another 20 minutes or as long as your patience can put up with. 😂
Glad it helped! And funny comment. :)
LocalSend is Waaaay better!
thanks
You're welcome!
thank you , very well explained !
Glad it was helpful!
Isn't there a better app? Like this notoriously does not work on pop os.
Not sure I could check
Do these settings remain saved when connected back to windows? I want to set up my keyboard and save the “chroma” to use on my work computer which is restricted to installing different software…
Often the settings are applied to the devices. But some of the system stuff won’t. You will need to setup on Linux and Windows. I have a headset and it saves the settings in the headset. But the mouse pad etc done by the system.
I am gonna install this, thank you for a very good guide!
Glad it helped!

Thanks for the idea! I just moved and need to finish setting up. But honestly this seems like a great video idea.
will this method work with steam OS on a SteamDeck?
Probably. Now I will have to try :)
Is it have power draw?
Can show the power draw of the GPU and CPU I believe
I was hoping to find out how compatible this laptop is with Linux, specifically Debian. I'm considering buying it, does it support Debian right away, or will there be driver and firmware issues?
Should be fine. It’s a pretty supported. Standard Linux Distro :)
Amazing video I was stuck with this for a long time. Liked and subbed!
Awesome Thanks and glad it helped
For the love of God, if you spend money on a mechanical keyboard, at least learn how to type... that was painful to watch.

How to solve the problem with EACCES: permission denied, mkdir '/data' ?
Lenovo ThinkPads are well-built and come with a 3-year on-site warranty from the supplier. Additionally, you can easily repair and upgrade them yourself.
They are legendary. But newer modes are not. And Lenovo don’t actually support self repairs. You can’t easily get hold of official spare parts. Second hand on eBay etc. Sure. But it’s not the same as a Framework.
@@RobertMizen In my country, they provide a reliable service. You are right about the newer models being less repairable than the older ones. I am still runnig a T14 Gen2 and it works great! Unfortunately, I don't have access to Framework laptops.
Speak up
Unfortunately KDE connect requires iOS 14... So need a different method to grab data from an older device.
Nextcloud sync works great too. And I use it now to send stuff
This doesn't work... I'm looking for another way.
Nextcloud. I using that from the phone and sync also. Send files and photos
@@RobertMizen I found something that works very well, and it works seamlessly across all my devices... It's called LocalSend.
how do you do this on mint in 2024?
What distribution do you use to display a web manager?
What do you mean? You just view it in any browser you like. I use OpenSUSE on my desktop etc.
@@RobertMizen Sorry for not explaining myself, I just installed OpenSUSE for a NAS but it doesn't allow me to log in with the web browser, only with the terminal directly from the NAS.
I'm looking for a new laptop. I don't have a lot of money, but I don't think that my sanity will let me buy any other laptop that's not from Franework.
It’s the only one that makes sense until other brands make repairable open laptops.
Hello Robert! Do you remember what was the service which failed to start (there is red sign near "System/Services ")? Can you also observe all available applications (included not-installed) when press the "Refresh " button in the up right corner of the Application menu? Thanks for your time and for useful guide.
Recently, my Lenovo Ideapad 5, that I've used for the last four years or so, broke. Not any of the electronics, it still actually runs fine, no, what broke was the bracket which attaches the hinge to the case. Meaning, that I can't open the lid without putting massive strain on the screen. I was quite annoyed since Lenovo has a pretty good reputation for producing durable computers, there's a reason why the ThinkPad has been so popular for so long after all. Anyway, because of that I've been shopping around for a new laptop and I heard about Framework from a friend who's pretty in t he know about computers so I decided to do some research and the idea definitely appeals to me. While I do the vast majority of my GIS related work on my desktop, Map making, modelling, etc., I want a laptop for when I need to travel or go out to do field work. So, it needs to be fairly durable and able to handle light to medium workloads, as well as some light photo editing in Affinity Photo and a bit of light gaming. The entire sentiment around repairability and modularity especially appeals to me, it's one of the reason's I built my own work desktop, the ability to freely add, upgrade, or exchange components is very appealing. I also really like the idea behind their hot-swappable IO ports. Even if there are only 4 IOs on the Framework13, you have the option to buy more and freely exchange them. Like, if I'm out flying my drone at a worksite in the forest, I probably won't need an HDMI or Displayport out, so being able to swap for an extra USB-A or USB-C port is very nice. Anyway, I'm still probably going to be doing a bit more research before deciding, but thanks for giving your thoughts!
For now I am keeping my ageing ThinkPad e585 in use, as it still suffices. In a way it's neat how it's one of the first TPs with an AMD APU, but this also makes it quite slow, even running Linux (Garuda Linux, in case you're curious). I am preparing for making an upgrade soon, either to some other TP or a Framework 16. Next to being twice as expensive (but worthwhile in the long term), what makes me hesitant is that I don't think I would like the touchpad and keyboard. This as I am very accustomed to the ThinkPad style top buttons and heavier weighted keyboard keys, the Framework 13 of a friend I tried felt like a big downgrade. Which I can probably get past, but it still won't be as nice as another TP, like the one I helped my brother pick, which I am almost jealous of. But I'll have plenty of time to decide, as I've made the decision to start the next study year on my current laptop and to see how it holds up, now the programme will require heavier software.
I also understand. The keyboard and trackpad isn’t like MacBook quality. But I grown to love the keyboard. Trackpad not so much but I don’t often use it anyway. Always have a mouse with me.
You are the best thanks
You're welcome!

Hi, I've tried putting this command in my linux mint terminal and it gives me the error it cant find 'pamac'
What Type Is Your Linux OS
That is a different package manager. Mint uses another one. This is for arch based systems. You CAN setup other packages managers on different distros but it isn’t recommended. It’s a mess.
Still one of the best and built better than the new ones.
Agreed. The new ones do look nice also. But the price and specs don’t match up.
i cant send the photos/videos because i cant connect the computer with the phone
Well you need the app installed on the phone and also KDE Connect open on the computer and then you can add the phone as a device. You using Plasma or GNOME?
as soon as it gets a Miniled-panel option I'll come along
For the small laptop?
@@RobertMizen I was thinking the 16”, it’ll probably take some time.
Had a question about installing podman from your video. I installed Podman onto my openSUSE Leap, and so far, it shows installed, but it doesn't show on my left-hand panel. Apologies ahead of time 🙏
Left hand panel?
@RobertMizen Sorry I meant when you log into Cockpit off to the left side where you can see the different tabs. On your video you can see it to the left side "Podman Containers." But for me nothing shows up after installation of package into my openSUSE Leap Server
@@prestigefleet so you can login to cockpit? But not see the stuff on the left side?
@RobertMizen Correct after that tip you gave me I was able to login in perfect 👌. Then when I login in and do all my updates and all my package installations the "Podman Containers" doesn't pop up.
@@prestigefleet Nice one! Now head over too: cockpit-project.org/applications.html it has a list of all the addons for Cockpit. Id recommend at least the following: cockpit-networkmanager cockpit-storaged cockpit-podman cockpit-selinux cockpit-tukit That will handle network management, storage, podman containers, selinux if you are using it and also updates inside the UI.
I love everything about the framweork laptops, both of the models, but i have issues related to delivery and availability... for all North America based countries it's not an issue, as deliveries are fast, but for people like me who live un Latin America all deliveries are quite long, so in case of critical need for a replacement part it would take a very long time or too much price for express/priority shipping. Also there is the obvious issue of customs in Latin America countries, because it's recurrent that high value products get lost on customs or checkings.
I understand that. I used to live in Ecuador. Electronics are not easy to come by for some stuff. But the company is small and expanding. Now they are in the states and more countries in Europe. Officially not in Sweden lol. Even though that is where I am now. But once they arrive in Latin America then parts won’t be much issue. If imagine they will open in Chile or some thing first.
@@RobertMizen Well, I am from Chile and will be very happy to see them coming here, but as you say, we will have to wait until they expan to LATAM
@@ZenkiSagara Yeah. I mean I have had mine for more then a year without issue so replacement parts I didn’t have need for. But you could wait.
@@RobertMizen I am more concerned here for customs checks, they are famous for charging unreasonable random taxes for products they see fit or sudendly lose your products. Minor drawback is obviously the waiting for delivery, but that's manageable
@@ZenkiSagara I know that, Ecuadorian customs have enjoyed much of my stuff lol
Trying to use this with Ubuntu. Followed the instructions then restarted but I still don’t see the app
Not sure on Ubuntu. But did you ensure the daemon was running also. I need to revisit this as lot of changes has been made. It maybe a user permission
Appreciate the video, but you skipped over the user login section. I have got to the Web Interface, but it won't allow me to login in with current credentials for some reason.
You won’t be able to login using the default root account as it doesn’t have access to ssh etc. So you need to create another account on that machine or change the ssh root privilege for root. I’m in the middle of a new series for this :)
Thank You for that tip, Went back and fixed the issue! Appreciate it
@@prestigefleet Glad to hear it :)
There is some funny looking brackets in the packaging coming with the chassis. On the other hand, the PSU I have seems to be screwed on the chassis only from the outer side. I was wondering if the brackets provided with the chassis were meant to support the PSU weight somehow. My Supermicro chassis had provisions for screwing the PSU from the inside as well to support its weight. I can't figure out what these brackets that were provided were meant for.
It’s to support different type of PSU. Normal size ones don’t need but if you have smaller PSU then it helps or if you mount the chassis sideways etc.
@@RobertMizen No idea, I have a Supermicro PSU which is the correct size but it is a bit thinner. If the chassis is horizontal then the external screws can hold the PSU in place. If it was mounted sideways then I wouldn't want the static load to be left unsupported. However I couldn't find a permutation of brackets and positions that would work. Nevermind that. Now on with the challenge of plugging in the front panel connectors to the Supermicro motherboard. I guess this is the price to pay for not buying a Supermicro chassis where it just works but for crying out lout, they could had spliced the cables from the front panel to the motherboard completely so that they can move independently. Piss poor design.
@@nautaki some supermicro chassis can be little special. So yeah, but the front panel on this chassis is standard. I have a supermicro board in mine now and it fits
@@RobertMizen the problem I have is that the cables from the front panel to the motherboard are not independent. This makes it very hard to plug them to the correct connection on the motherboard. I had an idea though. Supermicro gives you an adapter for connecting third party motherboards to their chassis. I could use that instead. Hmmm......
@@RobertMizen by the way, I can see your PSU is similarly sized to mine. I wonder if you used any brackets to support it.
Hey, what browser do you use?
Vivaldi I use on my computers and iPhone.
It helped me, thank you Robert
Glad it helped. :)
openrazer-meta isnt found when i search for it?
Hey. I buy the 2013’13’ in 2015 and he’s dead a few days ago (keyboard and batterie). I change the batteries, keyboard and also trackpad and logic board to make it like a 2015 MacBook Pro A1502. Best choice after 9 years of use. I refit my MacBook Pro and upgrade it and now I will upgrade the SSD to 4 To. Apple doesn’t like we us our right to repair and upgrade.
That generation of laptops were pretty well built and last long time. Now Apple does not want that. It’s crazy that laptops and phones should last at most 4 years according to the companies. It’s insane. Glad you got more use out of yours :)
Thanks for the video and info. Worked well on Arch with Steam and only took 5 minutes to configure.
Glad it helped!
Hi. Thanks for taking the time to make this video. Sadly, I can't get it to work. I am the problem.....I am a Windows power user but know zero about Linux. This is a foreign language for me. I can't get any of this to work. At all. There are things that are second nature to you that you don't spell out and I get lost. As I try to follow along I'm seeing different things than you are showing in your video. For example.... there is no "openrazer-meta" that shows up when I search for it. Is there a more rudimentary video to teach the basics of installing things in Linux from Github? (I've been looking for a couple of hours but I can't find anything that is slow enough for me to understand.....it seems that most people making these videos assume a much higher level of knowledge than I have.) Thanks again for making the video......I hope to be able to follow it one day. :)
I'm waiting, patiently, for my batch 2 Q3 laptop. Very patiently.
Nice. That gona be good. Let me know when it arrives :)
