2024 Book Releases I'm Most Excited For
I've watched a few reviews on youtube about salem's lot and you're the first one that made me just realize something. Like you said, the growing relationship between ben and susan was sweet and personally it really grew on me. I was so shocked and upset when susan got turned into a vampire. But i don't see a lot of people mention how ben literally lost his wife to a motorcycle accident. You have to think that he blames himself, even possibly thinking that *he* killed her. Then he meets a sweet girl, starts to date her and then he is FORCED to drive a stake through her heart to kill her since she has become a vampire. I really wish more people would talk about this, how ben had lost two loves (killing both of them if we interpret that he blames himself for the accident that took his wife's life). I'd love to know what you think of this!
Omg the alternate ending was so epic.😂😂😂 that absolutely should have been awesome.
Another fantastic video. “11/22/63” has been on my TBR for a long time, might be time to move it up the list.
Loved it. It’s one of the few books I’ve finished. I just loved the concept of the house, and the characters’ drive into insanity were done very well
Overall I loved the story, though there are a few scenes I did not care for. The turtle things was not my favorite scene or the wrapping of the tongues.
You should add THE VERMIN SLEEP to your fall TBR! I promise it’s worth your time! 🐀🔨🩸💀
Starting this book today on audible, I'm so excited
Unfortunatly i do now picture the man in black as Mathew McConaughey, as he does have that Shit Eating Grin energy. 😆
I was about to comment on here about how incredible it is that you are just now reading this, then I heard your accent. Welcome to Texas literature my friend. Make sure to check out Deadman Walk, Comanche Moon, and Streets of Laredo for more Gus and Woodrow adventures. All the movies are great as well. BTW, this book is losely based on real life Texas Ranger Charles Goodnight and his ranching partner Oliver Loving. They founded the Goodnight/Loving trail to herd cattle from Texas to Colorado. Loving was killed by Comanche in New Mexico and Goodnight brought his body back to Texas.
John Kavanagh the Gravediggers and Bowe’s the 2 best pours of Guinness in all Dublin!
I listened to the audiobook & laughed out loud multiple times before rewinding it a bit to relisten to it one more time
Ka is a wheel... I love your reaction so much
🐱 Ironically, it's Stephen King's *_Favourite 📖 Book_*_ he wrote_ as well.
I grew up loving the movie Jurassic Park. I read the book about 20 years later and I love the book even more than the movie. It is better in my opinion.
I love the way you talk about books. Specifically characters - your ability to dissect a story is impressive and I always enjoy watching your reviews after finishing a book to see what thoughts you had and see how they compare to my preschool level comprehension level thoughts 😅
Jurassic park is pretty great. I like the book much more than the movie. I started reading it and was immediately like “oh, this is a horror novel” XD
The "Hey Pretty" by Peo connection blew my mind because I hadn't read HoL until 2020.
Nice recap, Jay! About Farseer, maybe don't expect a lot of plot progression in the sequels and you'll appreciate them a bit more I think than having those hopeful expectations. They are excellent books, dont get me wrong, just want you to go in with the right expectations 😅
The Book Canon😂 awesome
Daaaaang! I predicted 11/22/63 would go to #4; I never dreamed it'd go all the way to #2. Nice! I don't think it's my all time favorite King, but it's a fabulous book, definitely one of his best. I also agree it's maybe his best ending ever. Like you, I'm often frustrated by his endings, but he really stuck the landing on that one.
irony, this was the first stephen king book i ever read ..... the anthology with "the mist" in it......."skeleton crew" and i became a "dark tower"seeker. i miss the days before everyone knew there was a dark tower universe, and you would read a book, and be able to be freaked out, and almost "study" the books, to see the running themes, and characters....... i think i had read "wizard and glass" when i put together "the mist, and the thinny" where the same thing (edit) you just spoke about exactly what i just said!!!!! lol amazing!
You’re not the only one who found Moby Dick too, “informational,” shall we say? I felt the same way. I took a course on it, and, although having a really great teacher helped greatly, it was, at times, a slog.😊 I also think that Fight Club conveys an even stronger message with the author being gay. He does a great interview on Soft White Underbelly on RUclips.
thank you for making this video, i have read the gunslinger probably 5 times in my life, i have read book 2 a couple times, 3 and 4 twice, and i have only gotten thru the last 3 books once...... it took me years to get thru the first 4 books, but i read the last 3 all in 1 summer........ i appreciate this so much, one thing i loved about the original books (i have the first editions) was the afterwords.......i have also read all of the other books involved......... you tearing up, had me tearing up...... (posting this after i got to the end of the video)
@@ashtraydekay6624 Yeah it was definitely emotional for me to reach the ending. I think it's because I'd dedicated a year of my life and met some amazing people along the journey on RUclips. It's a time and a reading experience I'll never forget. I'm so glad you enjoyed The Dark Tower series too.
You don't read a lot, do ya?
😂 Not as much as I'd like. 60-70 books per year max usually. This year might be the first I hit 100.
this series means so much, to so many, espescially me..... your intro is spot on........
Roughly how long do you spend reading a day to be able to finish this many books?
I read around 2-3 hours per day but sometimes on the weekend I get lost in a book for hours and kind of binge. I also sneak in a little reading when I take little breaks at work for a few minutes which adds up. Rather than scrolling in my phone. I mean I scroll a little but try not to overdo it.
So many books and so little time. Best wishes to you.
Glad you liked Assassin’s Apprentice. I agree on the pace. Hobb takes her time with her stories, but it’s worth sticking around for what she’s building up to.
Thanks for this great video! I read Lonesome Dove two years ago now and I was on the verge of tears just listening to you mention Gus. Still feels so immediate and close and real. Definitely one of the greatest reads and reading experiences of my life. I usually read female authors and prefer to read about women. I have no interest in Westerns or America. None of this matters. One of the greatest of all time!
11/22/63 is in my all time top 10 list. It absolutely blew me away! Great video.
You know how in 11/22/63 the past harmonizes... well I did a comparison video of the book with another book; 'Resurrection Day' by Brendan Dubois highlighting the similarities. '11/22/63' published in 2011 is an echo of a book published in 1999! (don't take that too seriously, I'm just having a little fun).
You sir are very welcome! 😂 I knew you were going to like 11/22/63, but I am overjoyed that you Loved it as much as I did. What a book indeed. ⚒
I appreciate it mate. ⚒️
4:58 cant relate 😭 By the end of Assassins Apprentice I was so glad the book was over… but I’m committed to the trilogy.
Oh no! 😂. I'll have to see how the rest of the trilogy pans out and if the pace picks up.
Totally agree about Moby Dick, yeah, there’s a literal chapter about rope. F*****g rope. Been a few years since I read Fight Club, and yeah, it kinda feels prophetic these days. Palahniuk’s other stuff like Lullaby and Choke are a bit less fragmented if I remember and are worth checking out. I loved 11.22.63 too and it’s in my top ten of the year so far as well, not as high as you, but it’s damn good. But, I’m definitely rowing against the tide when it comes to Assassin’s Apprentice and the rest of the Farseer trilogy. The more I think back on them, the more I kinda hate them. I know. I’m wrong. A consensus has been reached and I’ve been outvoted by pretty much everyone. I’m slowly coming to terms with that. 😂 Great vid as always.
I can see how people wouldn't like Robin Hobb. It's slow paced and relies more on atmosphere. My opinion might change if I continue to read and the paced slowed down though 😂. And yeah fight club seems like an instruction manual for some of the young lads today.
@@PaperbackJourneys no comment on the continuing pace of the Farseer Trilogy. 😳
Really enjoy your vlogs and get plenty of recommendations from you. I have made the very bold claim that 11/22/63 is the best book I've ever read, however, I haven't read Lonesome Dove yet!
Oh yeah that is a huge statement on 11/22/63 but I can see why you loved it so much. Glad you enjoy the videos Carol! 😃
Awesome! I felt the same about the Backman series, that I will pass on The Winners. Even the second one was a bit too much. I can't wait to read Assassin's Apprentice!
Yeah Dina I don't think you're missing much with The Winners. It's pretty much more of the same. I hope you enjoy Assassin's Apprentice. I'm just going through the comments of this video now and it's getting mixed reviews ha!
I would recommend The Sea Wolf by Jack London. It is basically Moby Dick but way shorter and without all the whale facts
Oh awesome! I'll have to check it out. Thanks!
One of my favorite books for over a decade. It's amazing how underrated Jack London is becoming.
@@AnonymousAnonposter I'm reading a Jack London book every month this year. Just did The Iron Heel and got Martin Eden coming up in September.
You read some bangers in August!
Mate I had a great time 📚
@@PaperbackJourneys do you plan on doing a full review for 11/22/63 since it made it to the number 2 spot? 👀
Man I have to say, I only started reading a few months ago and whenever I finish a book I always go to ur reviews to see what u thought of it. I’ve been reading a good amount of Stephen king recently. Keep up the great work man I love your personality
Thank you. I'm so glad that you've gotten into reading. It opens up so many doors to other worlds and perspectives. It's the most rewarding hobby in my opinion. Thanks for the comment man.
Agree 100% with 11/22/63. It’s also my favorite Stephen King book and I’ve read a lot of SK over the years. It is such an exciting book all the way through. I cried like a baby at the ending. I think this is the one King book that I can recommend to people who don’t like SK or have never read any SK because it has the highest chance of success.
Wow jay good effort with these titles, great variety. Really enjoying assassin's apprentice ATM on audible, lonesome dove still peeping at me on the shelf. Another great video, thanks 📖☕
Yeah I like to mix it up as much as I can with the genres. I'm glad you're enjoying Assassin's Apprentice.
Yeah, 11/22/63 is my favorite fiction book ever. I don't love everything by King, but that book blew me away
Yessss, love robin hobbs writing
I love you show. My guilty pleasure is listening to you discuss Stephen King Stories. I could listen to you for hours and hours talking about all of Kings stories. Thank you for your time you share with us.
Ordered the book immediately after finishing the video. I’ve enjoyed your videos and have found your reviews of books I’ve also read to be a vocalization of my own thoughts 😅 It’s insane your subscriber count isn’t much much higher
I read it for the first time in April this year and I’m not expecting to read anything better in ‘24. A near (if not actual) perfect reading experience.
Nodding my head, going yeah yeah yeah. It really is one of the most beautiful explorations of friendship, failure and the legacy of the Dante-esq horror of colonialism. Big fan of how matter of fact it all is. People eat, sleep, fart, shit, cough, get on with things. It’s not particularly pleasant but it’s just something we all do and manage. Made it feel very human. When violence does break out it’s usually quick, ugly and not that interesting - much like irl.
Timely searching reflection as I’m about 1/3 of the way through and enjoying this deep, rich character-driven journey into a new frontier. One of the rare novels that I’m inclined to just absorb and be present with, which is no small feat in the era of attention fragmentation. You’ve earned a new sub, sir.
Stephen King is a pile of garbage.
Supporting the reader to experience the internal life and presence of a character is a superpower. Not every author possesses it. Going to get my hands on this literary treasure this week. 100% here for it.
