You don't EVER need to apologize for "only" reading four books. You're a person with a life - we totally get that. Glad you're feeling better! I really want to read The Dog Stars - it sounds really interesting!

Thanks Michelle! Yeah I'm feeling a lot better now. I hope you enjoy The Dog Stars. It was definitely unique and emotional. It just had a strange prose BUT I read some reviews and others loved it. They found it poetic.

Great wrap up. Just started with Joe Abercrombie, I’m about 2/3 of the way through The Blade Itself and he absolutely lives up to the hype.

To anyone wondering if they should start The First Law, just know that it’s better to do it than live with the fear of it.

Great Wrap-Up! Sorry about your horrible headache. I really need to read some Joe Abercrombie, sounds really awesome. Dark Matter is on my tbr, I will give it a read anyway. I am reading You Like It Darker this month, am intrigued by how many say it is not dark enough. I am looking forward to getting stuck in.

Yeah Cliff I think you'll enjoy Joe Abercrombie. Dark Matter isn't bad, I think I just went into it with sky high expectations. I hope you're enjoying your reading this month.

You know what? I've never read Koontz. I'll have to pick up something from him. Thanks for the recommendation.

July has been a great bookish month for me. 🙌 I really liked Recursion as well! I also read Bloom by Delilah Dawson. It left me completely speechless so now I recommend it to everyone. And I discovered cosy horror writer Darcy Coates, her books are quite entertaining and she writes nice digestible horror.

Ooooh Bloom. I'm going to have to look that up now and see if I'll like that too. I'm glad you liked Recursion! 😃

Great to see a new vid from ya! And so sorry about your headache, glad that it is now just a bad memory.
I also read You Like It Darker, began the day I picked it up from the bookstore, read some at work when nobody was looking and I LOVED it! My favorite stories in it were (in no particular order), Two Talented Bastirds, Danny Coughlins Bad Dream, The Turbulence Expert, On Slide Inn Road, Rattlesnakes (due to it not only being a sequel to Cujo, my favorite book ever, but also to Duma Key which is a brilliant book), The Dreamers and The Answer Man. All in all, his best short story collection since Skeleton Crew in my opinion.
I also read Blood Cruise (which I highly recommend if it has gotten translated into English yet, by Mats Strandberg), Gwendy’s Button Box and Bazaar of Bad Dreams (by King), Hex (by Thomas Olde Heuvelt, which is probably the best book I’ve read this month, or maybe even this year), The Girl Next Door (by Jack Ketchum) and The Exorcist (by William Peter Blatty).
Hope you’ll have a lot more time to read this upcoming month!

Thanks so much for the comment and I'm glad you enjoyed Your Like it Darker too. I still haven't read Duma Key. A lot of people seem to love that book.

I’ve got a TBR a mile long and you’re making me want to go back to Abercrombie. There are only so many days in the year, dammit! I read the First Law trilogy a couple of months back and loved it. I wonder if I can restrain myself from reading the standalone trilogy for a while yet.
Sinus infections are awful. I get one every couple of years. Yuck. Glad you feel better!

That's the danger of booktube. I love watching videos but man there's so many books out there.
It might be a good idea to resist just to savour Abercrombie's world.

Great top ten list. I liked Dark Matter so your recommendation makes me want to read recursion. My best books of July were Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradberry and Half a King by Joe Abercrombie. My first time reading Abercrombie. I really enjoyed it. Thanks for the great video. Keep ‘em coming. Also dogs do always make the story better.

I agree that Recursion was a major upgrade from Dark Matter. I stay away from SK's short story collections. I find most of his short sories to be very boring *yikes*

@@kevinnsevinn799 Mate I LOOOVE The Road. It's one of my favourite books of all time. It was brutal but strangely touching in a way. The way the father still maintains his humanity and love for his son despite being surrounding by hopelessness. Fantastic book. Maybe top 5 for me.

    • @kevinnsevinn799
      @kevinnsevinn799 Месяц назад

@@PaperbackJourneys when I first read it, it was the bleakest book I had ever read I mean it downright frightened me…but I couldn’t put it down. I had to know where and why the father had a destination in mind. It was like “why bother” the worlds done, but then it dawned on me…I’m not a father but I know my father would have done many similar things as the father in the book did for me or my siblings. Soon as I got to the end…I started reading it again literally went right back to the beginning…lol I know weird lol.
Keep up the great work, I’ve been going thru some things and now I have Covid which is pretty brutal even tho I got the injection…anyways watching your channel has been really helpful in keeping my mind off of these issues. Thank you from Houston, Texas.
