First off. Thank you so much for the shout out! I’ve never got one before this is very special to me ☺️
Secondly, I hope you love House of Leaves and The Trial. The former is so meta and interpretation itself is a huge part of the point of this book so selfishly I’m hoping you’ll make another hour long analysis video like you did for the stand, but I understand the time constraints that a video like that takes 😅 and the latter is so trippy, but I think it has a lot of memorable scenes.
Thirdly, I’ll be keeping an eye out for when you read assassin‘s apprentice because I really need to start reading Robin Hobb and you might just be the motivation for me to pick her works up 😁
    Happy reading!!

Hey Wera! You're welcome. I pronounced your name correctly I hope?
I'm really looking forward to reading House of Leaves just out of curiosity.

@@PaperbackJourneys yes you did! I think you’ll either love it or hate it but I’m curious to see either way … :)
**his parents immigrated from Poland and his dad fought in the Warsaw uprising I believe. Poland is mentioned a couple of times in the Pelican Poems (don’t search them up) and there is a character referred to as Gdańsk man.
**** also make sure that you read the full not abridged version 😄

I loved 20th Century Ghosts, Very much enjoyed everything I've read from Joe Hill so far, Keen to see your thoughts on The Trial, it did not land for me at all, but then I am not a very smart man :D, although hitting it that many times in a row is very fitting :D Reading it 5 times in a row is going to be an interesting experience.
House of Leaves is the top of my Top Horror books, very excited to see your thoughts!

I'm so glad to have found a channel that's not 'just sci-fi' or 'just horror' or 'just thrillers' - this is my kind of content - instant subscribe! On 'House of Leaves', I read it about 20 years ago. It's an experience and very discombobulating. I will read it again someday, but only when my reading slate is completely clear. I'm both drawn to it and repelled by it because it demands much of the reader. As a side note: Mark Danielewski's sister is 90's alternative music artist Poe. Her album from the early 2000s ("Haunted") is a companion piece to House of Leaves and full references (and passages) from the novel.

Fun to see that you couldn’t escape The Trial lol
And I am really excited to see what you’ll think about 20th Century Ghosts. I loved a bunch of those short stories and I am excited to read Hills other short story collection Full Throttle, I’ll probably read it this summer.
On my tbr this month, I have Carrie (since it’s the 50th anniversary), Hannibal (by Thomas Harris) and I hope to start reading The Kindness by John Ajvide Lindqvist. Or maybe finish Sacrament by Clive Barker which I began reading in January and then kinda forgot about lol

Recently finished Project Hail Mary because of your recommendation!! LOVED IT!!! I was in a sort of reading slump with work but the book really helped me out of it. Every chapter something new happened that kept me at the edge of my seat!! I feel like I want to start a lot of series lately so I want to ease my into that by reading a few "short" standalones to prep me for it. So the Trial it is!! Really love your recommendations!! It varied and across genres, so its really widening my horizons!! Can't thank you enough!! [I might be reading Children of time soon because of you too ;) ]

Oh this is one of my favourite comments of all time! Thank you. I'm glad that you enjoyed Project Hail Mary. It really does seem to be one of those books that everyone loves and it's easy for me to recommend.
I'm not sure that I'd recommend The Trial if you're just starting to get back into reading though. It doesn't have the same broad appeal that something like Project Hail Mary does. I'm reading it now and I can't say that I'm enjoying it. There's no real plot and it feels like reading a weird nightmare that someone had once. Nothing really makes sense and that's by design. Kafka is an absurdist writer and I'd hate for it to affect your reading journey.
If you like Project Hail Mary you might like Angels and Demons by Dan Brown which has the same smart witty writing but also great action and cool information. It's not a sci fi but it's got that same energy.

@@PaperbackJourneys Definetly going to check out Angels and Demons at some point. I just wanted a shorter book this time, and doing like a buddy read is awesome! Kind of keeps me going. Looking forward to your reviews!!!

I cannot wait to hear your opinions on House of Leaves, it's one of my favourite books. Also appreciate the doctor who reference 😁

I'm so excited to read it. The book is just a mystery to me. I'm going into with no full understanding of what it's actually about and what I'm about to walk in to. I was raised on Dr. Who. My mum used to watch the Tom Baker omnibus every Sunday haha.

The Trial is great, you’ll love reading it four times.
TBR for April right now is:
    - The Dark Forest
    - Assassin’s Apprentice and Royal Assassin by Robin Hobb (finished the first, part way through the second. Gotta say don’t love it like everyone else does. They’re fine)
-A couple of Discword’s to keep the marathon going
    -Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier.
Great vid. These are fantastic for filling up the old reading list.

Our reading tastes are SO similar haha. I'm so excited for you to read Assassin's Apprentice. I'm buzzing to read some Robin Hobb this year.

@@PaperbackJourneys ha ha yeah, that’s pretty much why I watch.
I’ll finish Robin Hobb’s Farseer Trilogy but tbh that might be it for me. Side note, wouldn’t necessarily recommend the audiobook, the narrator has a comically posh accent that’s really distracting. The guy sounds like a Noel Coward character or a BBC announcer from the 50’s.

From the Red Rising saga, which one would you say is your favorite so far? I often see everyone saying that the first book is the worst and the fifth book is the best.

    • @PaperbackJourneys

I'm actually very early on in my journey. I'm only half way through the second book but I will say that so far IT IS better than Red Rising. Thanks so much for commenting.

That's high praise indeed! I'm even more excited to read it now. Hopefully it comes up next month on the wheel or I might even be able to squeeze it in this month.
