Re: your squash and pumpkins. You might want to look up ‘blossom end rot”, your soil likely needs more calcium. Bone meal or ground oyster shells can help. I just save my egg shells in a container in the freezer over the winter, bake them on a cooking sheet at 200F for about 15 min to kill bacteria, then crush them up and put them into the soil in the spring. Birds will take tiny shell bits as well for their own calcium needs. Also, if you sprinkle the broken up shells around your plants, cut worms and slugs will be less happy to stay.

Sarah , you should take a poster board ( or an erasable board would be even better b/c you can use it over & over & only invest once ! ) & map out each bed & what you planted in each one & where ! Also , research what squash & pumpkins can or can't be planted near each other b/c certain ones can cross pollinate. I bought some squash & pumpkin from a local grower & they all tasted alike b/c they were grown too close together! Your corn is done as soon as the silk turns brown . All you need to do is rip open one side of your ears of corn but not take the whole husks off b/c they'll dry out unless you're going to cook them right away ! Better to store them still in the husks ! In the USA, we have a saying " knee high , by the 4th of july " concerning our corn ! The green stalks should be knee height by then . Your growing time is probably different though.

You could have left the chard in for a bit longer and still have a harvest. You can fertilize your beds before covering them for winter. It allows the soil to develop for spring planting. Adding peat moss helps to retain moisture in the soil.
