Today I am reviewing all the thing I sewed in 2024! Most of the garments I love, but there are always some things that could be improved upon. I am also going to talk about how my make nine plans went, what actually got done and why. I am also going to be telling you all about my very loose plans for all the sewing I am in theory going to do in 2025.

Sewing my Perfect Skirt, and One with a Cottagecore Twist
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.2 месяца назад
So today I am sharing the techniques I use to make my perfect skirts, especially for me, a plus size lady. This includes adding elastic to the waist, stablizing the waistband with ban-roll, and adding a cottagecore style bias bound hem. I made two variations; the first is a basic cotton twill version with my own slash pocket pattern. The next is cottagecore all the way in a spakly linen blend, ...

How to Do a Full Bust Adjustment (and When and Why) #shirtwaistseptember
Просмотров 1,5 тыс.4 месяца назад
Today I am talking about how to do a full bust adjustment (or FBA as it is commonly called) why you should do one, and when you should do one. It came about because I am working on my shirtdress for #shirtwaistseptember , and I needed to do a full bust adjustment for myself, and I realized it is one of the main reasons that prevents people from getting a good fit. I have been planning on making...

Making the Walkaway Dress: Butterick 6015
Great video. I liked the overview of last year, and the idea of making a list of what you want to accomplish in 2025 - I need to make a sewing list for 2025. I, too often, randomly start a project and before it's finished, start something new. I still haven't finished the first outfit I started about 32 years ago for my oldest child.😊
I feel you - I think we all have a few UFOs.
I am in the middle of making the Rose Dressing gown from Gertie’s Patreon. I am going a little more casual with it but it is such a gorgeous, high drama yet practical vintage flavored piece!
I bet its beautiful! would love to make that one, but she hasn't put out the princess coat in the plus size range yet and I don't know if that is going to happen :(
@ yes it would be nice to get all of them in all of the sizes. The only pieces I needed from the princess coat were the sleeves though so you might be able to put on your own. I can’t wait to see what you come up with this year! Thanks for sharing your adventures
Great video, feeling very inspired! I love that you love twig and tale too!
Thank you! I am glad to hear that! Yes they are great!
Love this!!! I just bought them and came online to see what others thought about them. This video told me all I needed to know. I’m excited to use them! 🤩🙌✨
They are really great. Its so fast!
Considering your life changes, you got a lot of sewing done, last year. Good job! I am always interested in fitting footage, like the bust adjustment of your Christmas dress. I don’t always watch full sew-alongs, but clips of pattern adjustments and sewing techniques are helpful. 😊-Deborah
Thanks! Definitely more of that to come.
I LOVE the idea of The 9’s. And the 1940’s robe idea is awesome! Im in MN so I need some warmth too. And a robe would be great.
I am looking forward to when its done! Needs to happen.
Considering all the things going on in the background, you've done exceptionally well with the number of garments you've made. I haven't made the Dartmouth for a long time - I used it as a nursing top when I had my last baby who is now ten years old🤔😱🤯. That said though, I think it would be awesome to sew the Auburn blazer along with you doing yours (big hint!). I have to turn the Vernon into a shirtdress! 2024 was not a great sewing year for me. I had a total hip replacement in March and had projects started and they still are not finished. I went back to work (the same as you, I use a lot of mental energy looking after the children in my care). I'm currently making a pile of black Bermuda length Closet Core Crew Poppy camp shorts (from their first year) to wear to work as we are in the midst of high summer. I completely understand not wanting to work with tweed in the middle of summer. It's best to work with what you want to work with when the climate is appropriate. I want to make so many things and just catch up on what I didn't make in 2024. But I also want to go with the flow and if it doesn't happen then I won't be hard on myself. My lifestyle doesn't lend it self to corporate styles or anything and I wear a simple uniform to work where I can make the bottoms and have them work. I'm just going to focus on building a nice out of work wardrobe of comfortable classy and effortless things to wear. And in my 50th year of life, I think I get to deserve that.
You definitely do! Let this be the year of being kind to ourselves, doing what we can, and making things we like!
Most welcome Ashley.
That’s so interesting re the Scout dress? It’s exactly what I want to get made this year and also hack into a blouse… 😜
Hey Ashley, I often wear a Judy Vest over my Rita Blouses and it works fab! Overcomes the low back and boobage issue. I’ve made 4 Judy Vests so far!
That is definitely an idea!
17:35 do you think you might make some petticoats?
Possibly? I am thinking more like a cotton one
Would you consider doing some videos like these: fabric stash overview, pattern stash overview, show your new sewing space, show in depth process of making the blazer (maybe comparing the big 4 and cashmerette patterns on the table side by side with your fitting speculation), share your favorite fabric stores (online/in person)
These are.good ideas! What would you like to see in an overview?
@ashleymainmakes for fabric stash overview, maybe a once over pan of what you have, how you organize/store. Show like general percentages of types in your stash - like jersey v. wovens, dress weight v. Bottom weights, coatings, linings, etc. In general if you buy for a specific project, how much yardage or what types of fabrics you get, maybe show off some of your favorite pieces in your stash (maybe an interesting story of how you got it on a trip or a gift or something) and maybe tie into some upcoming planned makes.
@ashleymainmakes for pattern stash overview, I love when people share all their patterns and talk through if they've made it yet, what they thought about it. Or if they haven't made it, what view and fabric they would do. Maybe it's easier for paper patterns, I haven't seen anyone do this for pdf patterns. And the videos I've seen are people destashing, and deciding what to keep and what to destash. But I just like the nosy and pattern inspo. Kittenish Behavior does this type of video a lot for her paper patterns.
I was staring at your top and wondering if it was a Dartmouth 😂 I recently made one in a mustard bamboo rib knit and LOVE it
I'm so proud of you and all you accomplished last year! You have awesome style!
You look great in an empire waist like that first dress you show. Well, you look great in all of your makes.
Thank you so much! I love that style too 😊
Love the shout out to the curvy coven! You made some lovely stuff. My favourite is definitely the Belle although I also love the Dartmouth as I’m hoping to make it. I’m doing make nine for the first time and I’ve planned it as more skills based along with the sew25in25 challenge. I haven’t been sewing long so lots of new skills 😂 looking forward to seeing your content this year again! I’m definitely planning on joining in shirtwaist September as I missed it last year. 🤞
That's probably a better plan, doing it as a skills based exercise - i wish you luck! And I am excited to hear that you want to join in on Shirtwaist September!
Love seeing your look-back and plans! Also that green top looks amazing on you!!
Thank you! 💚
Ashley that green color is EVERYTHING on you
Thank you! 💚
Agreed! And that cinnamon colored fabric above your shoulder would look amazing on you as well! Idk, picturing like a jacket or another shirt, but I like the 2 colors together.
Does it say juicy on bavk
Sadly no. I could figure out how to add that without the fuzz melting
You look so good in it
Oh mabye try again with a different fabric and iron
I love the plus sizes!!!!🤗
Awesome! Great job & you look adorbs in it!❤️💖💗💓💕🥰
Thank you 🤗
lovely
Stephanie now has the pattern publically available on her kofi if you would like to give it a try for yourself! ko-fi.com/s/76867c2012?fbclid=PAY2xjawHmVGhleHRuA2FlbQIxMAABpvEwO1Eet0Sv83zo88rzHZX0Eusg9ipNmTH8JgX_w7SWe44Vq_HiLpjM1g_aem_nU0ByQS7yl2fmuZ_MBIb2Q
Maybe a walking foot would help with slippage. Looks gorgeous. I'm starting my hoodie now!
Its a great pattern when I am not trying to do wacky things to it
Love this style of dress on you
Thank you! ❤️
You look lovely! The bust and gathers are excellent! Yes, to more of this dress! Maybe a gauzy sheer over satin? With darts in the satin and the same gathers in the sheer? I want fitted fronts and elasticated backs in everything these days!
Bobbin!
I’ll never complain about my dining area Sewing studio again. You cured me. This is the tiniest place I’ve ever seen. 😅
Tiny but it worked! I am glad to have a larger room now
It turned out so lovely! My new favourite way to finish hems for light weight fabric it's using lace instead of bias binding, maybe it could work for you as well?
Like regular lace? Thats a good idea. The lace hem tape is so stiff now
@@ashleymainmakes the one I used is cotton lace tape, it's not stiff and very fine... I think you could use it for lace insertions as well. I don't live in the US so I can't recommend where to find it. I also used it to hem a pair of late 30s/40 shorts that where cut on the bias and they came out perfectly.
This dress pattern looks fabulous on you!
Thank you so much!
The dress turned out super cute, the fit is great and you were absolutely right about the drape of the fabric!
Thank you! 😊
I love this dress. I love the Christmas colors in a not Christmas print. It is very versatile.
Thank you! ❤️
just wanted to say how lovely this turned out. Beautiful. Also love your new kitten. Happy Boxing Day
Thank you! You too!
Merry Christmas! I love the dress! And I hope you got all of the cookies baked last night. 😊
Merry Christmas!! Thank you! Yes I did, my dad just got some early cookies 😅 it all worked out. Hopefully it will be fixed on the 28th
Usually when I order a free pattern it is so that I can trial how this designer explains the construction or her Way of construction. If I can't make it through a very easy free pattern, I certainly am not going to make it through a difficult one and I have been sewing for over 50 years. So where? I appreciate a free pattern once or twice. I demand my first pattern from a new designer must be free.
Love it. Looks great
Thanks for sharing all of this. I love the fabric. Your dress looks better than the other persons. I find your personal thoughts and comments to be exactly what I need. I, too, have numerous patterns that are nearly identical. Therefore, as I make them. I run into the same/similar issues over and over. A lot of this is because I've been away from sewing for 3 decades.. I have been trying patterns from a 22 to a 32....with alterations. I have gotten VERY frustrated and have seriously thought of just quitting. Your video has helped encourage me a bit. I have tried MANY of the more modern approaches...I have decided to totally forget ALL of them. I will quit if I keep trying them. The ONLY burritos here will be food. I can cut my own facings, etc..and get on with tried and true methods. In addition to that I must raise the neckline, narrow the shoulders, possibly need to doctor sleeves, I also must reduce the front chest area above the breast area. Yeah it is a lot. I am however, on all the woven fabrics, stay stitching all pieces as soon as I cut them out. Keep in mind ALL my fabrics are thrifted.. Many of them are not for garment making.
You look beautiful
Thank you 😊
This is absolutely gorgeous and fits you perfectly! Yes! I would like to see variations.
Excellent! Thank you!
FIESTA 🥳🥳🥳
Beautiful! My first time here. Clever way of FBA i will try it. I have the pattern and never made it but … soon. I am purchasing your pocket pattern, and please make more variations of the dress, i will stay tuned
Welcome! Thank you so much. I hope you love the pocket pattern!
That’s just stunning! Love the pics with the tree, but I agree that you can wear it throughout the year. Thanks for showing the cheater adjustment! That’s so helpful to me. I love this dress style but wasn’t sure I could pull it off, anymore. Thanks for showing the pictures of so many beautiful women wearing it and for sharing your version. Maybe I’ll give it a try. Merry Christmas! 🎄-Deborah
Thank you so much! I hope you do. It's a lovely dress. Merry Christmas! 🎄
LOVE this! You look great.
Thank you! ❤️
I love this. Beautiful skirt, georgeous fabric ❤ 🇬🇧
Mele Kalikimaka! Tropical Christmas is absolutely the best! You look so fabulous. Thank you as always for sharing yourself with all of us.
I think so too! Thank you for watching! ❤️
You look awesome in the dress. I'm looking forward to the next version. Little Maple is so cute. I love a rescue. I think you should officially introduce her to the channel. Maybe she can be your mascot. Merry Christmas.
She, for sure, is going to be the mascot. There are going to be a lot of appearances, she is so interested in all the sewing. There will be more of an intro, but the videos ended up a little out of order with timing, so stay tuned!
Lolol 😅😅😅 I love the bloopers at the end!
