These iMacs are great. I have a 2015 quad core 21.5 that I used as my daily driver last summer with a 500gb ssd. Perfectly useable and it runs Monterey natively. Now it's my backup server but they're great devices. You really need to get the fixit opener tool that looks like a pizza cutter in order to take the display off, it's well worth the money to save that screen from any potential cracks

If replace the stock ssd with a new 1tb ssd, will it automatically install a new OS? or do i need a bootable usb with OS installation?

I found one of these in the trash @ my old job. I cleaned it up, replaced the HDD with a 512GB SSD & upgraded the RAM to 8GB (I kept the OS on it as High Sierra). It's a good laptop to use for web browsing.

I have mine 13 inch still, it works but today I put another batterie in it and replaced the HD with a SSD of 256Gb and installed Linux Mint 21.3 Mate on it. Works much better and is very useful now. Some years ago I put 8GB ram in it but OSX is very slow, so no thanks GNU-Linux is much better.

we have the same model and I also upgrade the dvd drive into additional ssd because the sound of dvd drive annoys me Everytime i turn it on.

You should definitely try hacking it if you do that it can run a much newer os 😃

With an SSD in it and upgraded RAM this can be very fast.

How do these guys find the laptops so cheap? No matter how hard I look I can not find a deal like this in this good of condition.

I'm using my 2012 MacBook for university studies again but the internet browser doesn't allow me access to certain pages for my study units. App Store tells me I need at least a MacOS version of 12.3 or later to download certain apps. Can anyone tell me whether purchasing the products in this video from amazon will allow me to upgrade my apple version pleaaaase ?

I have a late 2012 Refurbished MacBook Pro that I upgraded to 16g ram and a 500g SSD hard drive. It’s running Sonoma via OpenCore-Patcher. Runs great, maybe slightly hot. I would love to upgrade the CPU somehow so it could be under less pressure from the OS 👍

Late "11 MBP i7 16/256 ssd. replace the CD/DVD drive with 4Tb ssd got the Apple Superdrive external to work on the "11 MBP. its a pretty beast.

Got one of these purely as a collectors piece back when Apple made more stylish laptops.

Installing 10.5.9 is a good starting point. There isnt TLS1.3 so your going to have to compile that in order to get on most websites. Its VERY possible to achieve what your after, you just have to go old school and compile everything. Retro-Arch, NextCloud, and more can be achieved if your creative and patient enough. A device is only as old as the software running on it... Beautiful machine btw...

Welcome to the world of Apple G4 laptop computers. Over a decade ago, I picked-up off of Ebay a 12-inch G4 PowerBook. Daily, I would carry it to the office and use it to watch both DVD movies and RUclips videos during my lunch break. For productivity, I had iLife '09, iWorks '09, Appleworks, and Microsoft Office installed. In addition, on the PowerBook line the Apple logo on the top "lights-up" whenever, the unit is powered on (smile...smile).

Yeah, anything powerpc isn't hugely useful because web doesn't quite work. If you can dual-boot to MacOS9, it basic doubles the games you can play.

I have the 17-inch early 2008 version bought it used for $200 in 2018, it was in really good condition with a couple scratches only on the outside body, the keyboard, speakers, screen, mousepad, camera, disc drive all in excellent condition. I wiped and updated it to El Capitan, installed an additional 2gb ram in total of 6gb (you cant go any higher than that), the hard drive failed after a month or two so I installed an SSD, bought a 3rd party battery to see if it would last longer but works exactly like the OEM battery that I have. The laptop gets a bit hot depending on the surface its on and what your doing on the laptop. I played half-life 2 with all settings maxed out and it works like a charm. I also have a macbook air M1 but am currently typing this comment on my early 2008 macbook pro ;)

I think any Mac from late 90's on up can still be used for something. We are in a cool era right now, where someone could find a use for a 25 year old machine.
