I have the 17-inch early 2008 version bought it used for $200 in 2018, it was in really good condition with a couple scratches only on the outside body, the keyboard, speakers, screen, mousepad, camera, disc drive all in excellent condition. I wiped and updated it to El Capitan, installed an additional 2gb ram in total of 6gb (you cant go any higher than that), the hard drive failed after a month or two so I installed an SSD, bought a 3rd party battery to see if it would last longer but works exactly like the OEM battery that I have. The laptop gets a bit hot depending on the surface its on and what your doing on the laptop. I played half-life 2 with all settings maxed out and it works like a charm. I also have a macbook air M1 but am currently typing this comment on my early 2008 macbook pro ;)
Got the 15 inch around a month ago and it had a faulty keyboard, thought I'd replace it and have it running in no time, then the screen stopped working, decided to clean it, replaced the thermal paste, cleaned everything with isopropyl alcohol and nothing, now the fans and the cd drive are it's only signs of life
if the GPU was replaced by Apple (through the repair program) or a 3rd party with a newer revision of 8600M GT, those were very reliable, compared to the OG revision.
I have one of these machines. Had it for ages, Given the failure rate and how I hammered my machine I’m really surprised it hasn’t died. I was editing photos and videos on mine, it was getting so hot I couldn’t touch it. But somehow the GPU held on and the machine is still 100%

The last macOS before the change to a flat design was OS X Mavericks which is the version you are running in this video.

I haven’t messed around with it too much but I should make a video upgrading it!
This could be upgraded to El-Capitan as it supports for 32-bit systems...
How you update the os? I have one like that too 15 in and have always wanted to update it but have yet to find info on that. Cool computer for 2007
Should be automatic! Go to settings and look up updates! 2007 you can go up to El Capitan
