      @@jeevejavari8461Yeah I use it for legacy stuff mostly. I didn't go as far with the OS as it can handle due to wanting to retain the ability to use a bunch of software no longer supported, I'm certain that helps as well.

    Non metal MacBooks (like this) have really bad optimizations on anything higher than Catalina but you can improve your experience by disabling spotlight (switch it with anything else, the new spotlight architecture takes a lot of cpu), disable the transparency’s, animations and disable turbo boost (with the app, you can really improve the thermals by disabling turbo boost because of some bugs it has on latest versions) and the photoanalysisid, I’ve been using those tweaks for a month and my MacBook Air runs better than on Mojave, sure, you miss the cool styling, but you get a really fast and updated computer, hope it helps for you (by the way, disable SIP for turning off spotlight, the photos process and the new memory swap)

    • @cynonexus
      @cynonexus  5 месяцев назад +1

      I pretty much did what you said here except for the transparency since it didn’t look good without it but I guess I should’ve compromised for sure!

    I found one of these in the trash @ my old job. I cleaned it up, replaced the HDD with a 512GB SSD & upgraded the RAM to 8GB (I kept the OS on it as High Sierra). It's a good laptop to use for web browsing.

  • @mertsert4105
    @mertsert4105 5 месяцев назад +31

    You should use MacOS Catalina with it, I used to use 2010 Polycarbonate until 2023 (and I upgraded to 2015 Retina MacBook Pro, I know I'm not running best devices out there but I also have desktop and as a laptop they're just good for me) and I can say easily downgrading to something supoorts non metal GPU can help those machines significantly. Beside material and CPU performance, Polycarbonate MacBook's are still ok for everyday basic tasks.

      @mertsert4105 5 месяцев назад

      @@GJoseeph If you use it with HFS+, everything works except Apple Music, and if you use it in Mojave, everything works including Apple Music. There is no such problem in Mojave, all applications work but if you use it with APFS, the FaceTime and Calls feature and the iCloud features connected to it do not work including Apple TV shows nor podcasts, Airdrop gonna be broken (even first you need BT 4.2 card upgrade and than it'll work with HFS+). I should also point out that there are none of the problems I mentioned in the APFS and High Sierra duo and everything works smoothly.

    The uni-body polycarbonate MacBook is by far one of my favorite MacBook designs ever . I currently own a Mid 2010 unit with the 2.4 ghz Core 2 Duo which btw I'm currently writing this on it using macOS 12 with Open Core. it's quite sluggish compared to my 2012 uni-body with Sonoma but it gets most simple things done.

    always liked this form factor.. the gentleman I sold my m2 air to actually showed up with a pretty destroyed one of these and was upgrading from it. The current gen macbooks, especially pro really remind me of the older, boxier macbooks of the early- mid 2000s

    I also have the plastic MacBook in the 2010 version. My ideal system would be Yosemite or High Sierra, as these versions still allow the computer to feel smooth.
    My problem with High Sierra is that it feels smooth, but it doesn't have the option to run the latest software:
    Garageband is slow
    iMovie is slow
    Logic is slow
    Don't even mention FCPX, you can edit, but the processor suffers while editing.
    Safari is already very outdated and generates incompatibility with modern websites
    Chrome does the job but takes up a lot of RAM.
    Opera simply works better than Chrome and takes up less RAM, and also includes some features that improve the experience.
    An intermediate option would also be to move it to Windows 10 (mini version) in Bootcamp or Parallels, so that compatibility with iServices could be preserved and modern software could be used.
    Using OCLP is an option to run Big Sur or Monterey, but I also have the impression that the system runs with performance compromises, and does not guarantee effective support for modern apps. Therefore, I have thought about downgrading the host system and using a VM that does not demand much from the CPU.
    In my city, I have met people who want to put in 12 or 16 Gb of RAM, but I always tell them that the problem is the Core2Duo architecture. Often in High Sierra, my processor is occupied at 60% with a couple of Word, Powerpoint, iTunes, and RUclips tabs open, and the Wacom tablet connected as a Mouse. Before the RAM collapses with 7GB occupied, the CORE2DUO is already asking for a break.
    On my 2018 and 2019 Macs, these same tasks don't even take up 20% of the processor.
    I recommend this 2010 Macbook for OS testing but it no longer runs like it did back in the days when I received it with Snow Leopard. The battery would last 6 hours, the apps could do anything: Aperture, Logic, iWeb, iWork, Adobe CS5 Master Collection, VMWare. In those days, this computer was smooth and didn't owe anything.

      @cynonexus  5 месяцев назад +1

  • @Inconn24
    @Inconn24 5 месяцев назад +4

    Hey! good video! tbh Mojave or Catalina would've been way better for this laptop than Big Sur and Monterey, those graphics are bad when using the patch of the OCLP team and it makes animation looks laggy asf, but when using dosdude1 patchers it's fine and it looks good
