I bought one yesterday on Facebook Marketplace, listed for $450, the guy said $400 if you pick it up now, then called me that his car started heating up and can't meet up halfway and that if I could meet at a Walgreens there he'll give it up for $350, so I got there, said I was inside the Walgreens and the MacBook had 10 battery charge cycles and 11 months left on the warranty...now I have a basically new M1 Air for the price of a Pentium Windows laptop. Thankyou all who read this long ass story.
Got this M1 even when M2 and M3 was avail but i didnt regret one thing, love the battery life, works well for what i need especially web based work as well as multiple excel sheets and canva. i honestly do not regret and i got it at a discount as they were trying to push the newer models
I bought my M1 (8 CPU, 8 GPU, 16 NPU, 16 GB memory, 1TB storage) in August, 2021. It has been a phenomenal machine. Unless you need to do very heavy lifting (very complex video editing, advanced audio editing, Mathematica, etc.), it will be all you need.
I am a pro photographer/videographer and purchased the M1 MacBook Air with 512 Go of storage and 8 GB of Ram in 2022. It is an amazing computer that has never let me down or slowed my editing process. We also use the same chip M1 iMac, but with 2 To of storage and 16 GB of RAM. Very fast as well.
I’ve had mine for over a year and it has been great. I’m a very basic user and it has been a dream. I doubt I’d see any difference between the different M chips. I just decided to learn basic python programming and I know it’s fine for that. I may do some video editing in the future but it will be basic stuff like home videos for my family. I know it’ll be fine.
The main question many people including myself have is which variant you used for the 4k video editing test in Davinci : 8GB Ram 256 GB variant or the 16 GB Ram 512 GB variant?
You just blow my mind by using charts and tables for comparison. Though so simple in nature, no other youtuber used them for comparing M series macbooks (I am a Samsung fan toooo) . Good work brother. We need more of you-tube
All I hope for the M-chips is that they can be supported for more than a decade. Not in terms of software updates but in (security and bug fix) updates as a whole.
Thank you for this video! I am finally upgrading my Macbook Pro Late 2015 to MBA M1 and while I debated if I should get the M2 instead, I just can’t justify the difference on the cost because there’s no really difference on the performance between the two. Also, thank you for using it for editing because I’ve been looking for someone who tests it for editing and I’m glad I came across your video. Really appreciate this!

I bought M1 air last week, it runs so well and fast. I bought it for blogging and occasional video editing. N so far i am so happy. Before I was going to biy M3 and i almost made my mind. Then i came across a video if comparison of M1 vs M3 and the performance was almost same ...So i thought it doesn't make any sense to pay more for M3 and get almost similar performance and so i finalized on M1..one if the best decision i made...
As someone looking to grab an upgrade for my girlfriend, I’m looking at the M2 Air. The upgraded web camera and redesign is the main factor behind the decision. Though the M1 Air is a beast in its own right. Great video!
My M1 base Air is now close to 4 years old and it's still amazing. Bought it new for 959€ and I will keep using it until the end of this decade. Battery still lasts me the whole day if necessary

Get the 16GB version if you can it's got more years of usable life in it than the 8GB version. With a soldered SSD you really want a machine that wont swap to disk, especially for small SSDs. I've only seen 3 of these die to this so far but that number will go up.

I just got a 2020 MacBook Pro M1 for around $680 US dollars on eBay that's optioned with 16gb of ram and its standard 256gb ssd, I'm upgrading from a 15in mid 2015 MacBook Pro it is still fairly useable in todays age as I had it through December of 2023 up until this week in which I will put to rest. I had replaced its battery with a new one, as well with its speakers and ssd to a 1TB along with using open core legacy to get the latest patches and it has still been useable throughout my first semester of college. I would still be using it but I had an opportunity to get into apple silicon with the specs this M1 had, So now I am just listing it in my local Facebook marketplace to recoup some costs with this purchase. Absolutely Useless and garbage. Cant switch to Linux or Windows via hardware. Cant upgrade memory. Cant upgrade SSD. Cant replace anything and stuck in Apple ecosystem. I pass.
The M1 MacBook Air is an excellent machine, but it isn’t for someone like you, so don’t criticize just because doesn’t satisfy your needs, I guess you are a windows guys, so go buy something with windows in it and a x86 processor instead of criticizing a machine that is excellent but you talk bad about it because it isn’t for you… btw if you want something similar to a M1 MacBook but with windows now you can have it with the snapdragon machines with the new X elite processors…you should buy one of those instead of criticizing and talking rubbish…
I understand what you are saying for sure. To give you an idea. I have a framework 1st gen performance (mid tier) and I bought a Macbook Air M1 for $650 last week. For the Air I went with a 16gig version because 8 gigs is not enough for modern day unless you want to risk killing the SSD. You are absolutely right about the lack of upgrades with the addition of insane costs with Apple products. I also run Linux on other machines. I do not use Google Drive (Use GrapheneOS for cell), ICloud (I removed Internet Accounts on the mac) or OneDrive(Local Account). I do have have an alternative for cloud storage that works fine across all platforms, including encryption where my devices hold the key. Framework is fantastic, after the initial costs, I can keep that machine running for far longer than any mac just because I can upgrade any and every component or replace if any gets damaged. With all that said, the M1 Macbook Air is a really nice machine. It's really is a solid computer and while I hate the lack of ports, it's not a problem for my usage. While I generally hate dongles, I had to get one for the framework for an ethernet adapter with three USB 2 type As that will work fine for the Air as well. Furthermore, there are many in the open source community that are porting Linux to the M series Macs. With Microsoft also working to push arm based CPUs for their Windows OS, I think x86-64 is on the way out but time will tell with that. So I absolutely hate the lack of repair available for Apple products and refuse to give them any money (hence why I went used for the Air), this is a solid laptop for the go. I am also not stuck on any one "eco-system" from any of the major players.
Mac is a different framework. You’re really going to be more butt hurt when you realize Apple’s decision to go with SOC was the best decision for laptops. Better efficiency and more power. ALL the major manufacturers are looking for an ARM solution and soldering the SAME components you’re whining about.

According the my little brother, his 3 year old 13-inch m1 macbook air is "on its last legs" but last night i saw him playing warthunder for 4 hours straight and when he was done he still had 30% battery left 😭
That mf doesn't know how good he has it
Just make sure to MAX OUT THE CRAP OUT OF IT! you can get 1tb ssd 16gb ram for about $700 refurbished!
Done subs
Just wiped my 2020 M1 Air for my daughter to use. She is shocked at the difference between the new model and her 2017 Air. 😄
M1 and m2 no difference wow
it's better than an iPad.
buy a m1 macbook pro. Much better value.
Do not buy an M1 MacBook Air 2024. If you already have one, keep it. If you want to get a MacBook Air, get the M3.
Just bought a 16GB/1TB MBA for 835€. It'll be my first Macbook ever, I'm excited.
