2006 MACBOOK IN 2024!!! UNUSABLE??? OBSOLETE???

Today's video is revisiting an old MacBook from 2006. Is it usable in 2024? Well, spoiler alert, no. But it is interesting to see a MacBook that is 18 years old tackle the modern internet.

I remember using my dads 2005 toshiba windows xp laptop in 2009 ish and it was next to slow and obsolete, it seriously amazes me how an 18 year old mac is still going for it

Honestly anything with a core 2 duo machine is still perfectly usable

i have the an 09 working amazing with the high sierra patcher! the only downside of it it's the trackpad is partially broken! and another weird thing that happens quite often is that the screen brightness goes to zero, completely black out of no were! but other than that the machines works pretty good! obviously i upgrade it ti 4 gigs and a 120 ssd!

Those sound like bugs that need to be ironed out by the developers! It's just unfortunate to see these limited by their 32-bit efi!

I absolutely love mine I just got one recently from a flea market for get this $24 with a original battery that has 61 cycles and holds a charge for 5 hours or so and the whole thing is in really good condition the keys aren’t even shiny it’s amazing though my dvd drives dying unfortunately

sure did it had 1gb of ram i put in 2gb and upgraded the 8-gb drive to a 160 @@cynonexus

Nice video! I still have my 2007 white Macbook. Used it strictly for Serato Scratch Live and it was flawless. I still fire it up from time to time. The 10.6.8. update is what's causing the fans to run full blast.

this is still very usable, for typing, documents, writer, just chunk in some SSD's and add ram, use el capitan and all good to go

all it needs is a web browser to make it perfectly usable, its strange how that's been fixed so that it cannot be 🤔

32bit efi is the problem! the old version of macos just can't keep up with the new website demands!

​@@cynonexus You can boot 64 bit os, though im not sure if you can boot new versions of mac os specifically. ive gotten windows 10 and various versions of ubuntu working. I think there are a few videos on it already on youtube

Can you install Linux on it and compare the usability? You'll get a modern software, though a limited number of programs, but you'll have modern Chrome. I wonder if the keyboard makes it a good typewriter type of hardware: e.g. if you want a distraction free writing - quite a popular option for writers.

I guess i should start downloading linux bootable drives soon hahaha, thats a good idea. The keyboard works great, it's the trackpad that hasn't aged well!

@@cynonexus I think AntiX is the Linux distribution to start with. And accumulator may actually be available now - I think there is one US company that makes all kinds of old form factors.
