    I know a guy where I work who has a speach impediment. I have permanent facial palsey and my face looks the same all the time. He likes to talk about me and how my face looks but he doesnt like for other people to talk about him. I finally just said screw it and started talking about his speach impediment right in front of him and other people when he is talking about me. He usually gets hurt and shuts the F up then. I don't see why I should have to tip toe around his feelings when he is trash talking me for something that I cant do anything about either. And management where I work has no balls whatsoever so nothing is ever done about it. You would think that since he was picked on a lot that he would know not to be like that towards others but not him.

    I am a guy in my 30's and think I probably had something undiagnosed most of my life. Dyspraxia, apraxia, dysarthia, autism? People assume when they hear me talking that I have some sort of learning difficulty, or that I am developmentally challenged. It's just the way I talk. I only realised within the past few years, after I started an office job and noticed the way people react there when I speak. I am unsure what to do about it. My voice sounds fine to my ears when I'm speaking; when I hear it played back, e.g. from a recording, it sounds just like I described above...

      Hand movements help promote my speech, as motor skills support speech production. Avoiding hand movements would not be affirming of neurodiversity and would not aid in my verbal speech production. I always encourage hand movements, as they help create speech neurons in the cerebellum of the brain. Encouraging a person with CAS to sit on their hands would not be beneficial.

    • @melbird-dw3su
      @melbird-dw3su Месяц назад

      Every single person is different, my daughter has never used the hand movements like you do, it was intended as feedback for a more enjoyable video. But I get it, if it helps you communicate, then it helps for that success, importantly.

Yay! *So ya know what’s funny; I actually named my son his name that popped in my head (the very last day we were at the hospital after he was born and we were there for 7 days); because with his last name and his middle name that were already set in stone; his name sounded like an old English author’s name 😂😂😂and I love writing & always wished I enjoyed reading too but I don’t like reading at all with my eyeballs for long but I like using text to speech when I need to read something longer than a paragraph lol

    I’m 32 years old and I’m just now realizing that this is my main fucking struggle in life and I’m like getting angry right now thinking about all the people in my life that pretty much are bullying me because of this disorder (if you have this problem, you know exactly the struggle. It’s a very nuanced topic that I could go on, and on about……..in my head that is!!😂😂😂 and maybe on paper but not out loud apparently 🤷‍♀️🥴🫠 They aren’t purposefully trying to bully I don’t think 🤔 most times they aren’t consciously doing so, at least. I also really believe everyone has a problem with communicating period & it’s a shame because we just weren’t taught how to do so effectively & if we were than this country and it’s people would be a lot fucking happier and successful than the state of the people today. So because I’m just now realizing that THIS is exactly what I struggle with and didn’t have the word (no pun intended 😂😂😂) to describe these symptoms; I don’t put the blame on others as much as I used to because I have such a deep understanding myself. I’m so much better at writing than talking so I send novels worth of texts and clap backs that I don’t have the ability to do in the actual moment with a person, so i think it trips people out sometimes lol Ughhh this shit just sucks like it truly feels like a paralyzation or that English isn’t my first fucking language when it is! I have so much respect for people who can speak multiple languages. It’s fascinating. Could never be me tho. I really need to research on how to get help with this for myself now that I know it is some thing that CAN be helped. dude I know it’s fucking the weed too (that ain’t helping any of my brain 🧠 cells & is definitely probably fucking up some connections from being able to ⚙️🔩⛓️📡connect properly either🤭😬, but when you struggle with this stuff weed makes you not give a shit that other people can’t understand me, but I truly deep down know that I need to conquer this or else I really won’t be able to do everything I need to do for myself and my family and live a life I’m proud of

    Hey I just wanted to thank you for posting this. My 11 year old son has apraxia of speech and it MADE HIS DAY to watch this video. I can’t believe it never occurred to me before to look for videos like this. But it meant the world to him to have an idea of how amazingly good it can get and what there is to look forward to. It really is so kind of you to take the time to share your experience. It requires bravery as well as kindness toward others and I just really appreciate that. My son, like you, exudes a sort of sweetness. And I think that it must be the case that, at least for a certain personality type, having a limit on your ability to express yourself verbally naturally leads to you discovering other ways to connect with others. So for some, and this definitely includes my son and seems to include you, there is just this blossoming of kindness and warmth that is really wonderful to encounter. It makes me really excited for my son’s future to think of what a uniquely emotionally gifted person he is going to be when he is able to put together that tremendous warmth with the capacity to express himself verbally as fluidly as you do. So thanks once again. Hope you have a great day :)

It definitely causes a speech impediment. Weirdly I’ve done fine with woman and I don’t understand how. Beautiful woman. I’m 34. I pray to god by 40 I can have the surgery done and live the rest of my life normal. It controls every single second of my thoughts. Of everyday. Because my jaw feels just bad.

    Hi! I'm an SLP from Montreal, and I wanted to thank you so much for sharing your awesome videos with us! I do have a couple of questions for you (only if you don't mind answering them): 1) Where were you able to get 5x of speech therapy a week for 7 years? 2) Did you get these SLP services in a private school or in a public school or clinic? I'm asking because I'm the only SLP in 2 elementary schools (of around 400-500 kids in each school) in Montreal and there is a serious lack of SLPs in the public sector (health and education). Even in the private sector there are wait-lists for SLP services. I'm so glad you were able to get intensive speech therapy for many years, but there are so many other kids out there who aren't able to get that amount of speech therapy 😢. Anyway, you keep doing what you're doing, cause you're really great at it! 😀😀😀
