Jordan - Listening to you increases my hope!
My youngest (8yr) was diagnosed with CAS 4 years ago and he is going through the awareness fase right now, not easy!
Just thinking that some day he will be able to communicate as good as you are communicating right now makes me extremely happy.
THANK YOU for doing this. THANK YOU for raising awareness and THANK YOU for being a brave young man.
Also, kudos to you sister for always being there for you.

Another great video! I think this was my favorite so far...maybe 😜. Your sister is beautiful, This is the first time I picked up the southern accent, Love it! I feel so protective of my grandson, and right now he only makes one sound for just about everything, when I hear others repeat it, to make fun of him I get sooo mad 😡! I quickly let them know he has Apraxia and right now (age 3) is still non-verbal. Sometimes it’s just other young children who don’t realize what they are doing, but it’s still hard. I dread the day when he realizes that he isn’t talking like everyone else and starts to shutdown. I pray his outcome is as successful as yours! Thanks again!

mrssgosse when he starts to shut down, remind him of how far he’s come & how far he’s gonna come along. Kids can be mean (intentionally or unintentionally), so I think it’s great you’re already educating other kids around him about Apraxia. 💙

What you say has brought me to tears. Both because you are now able to say it, which is amaizing and gives me hope, and because my 5 year-old son has severe child Apraxia that leaves my wife and I struggling to understand him so often I can just see him shutting down and giving up at times. I love him so much, and not knowing how to help him crushes me.

Yes, I am with you 1000% on this. My son is 6 and was literally just diagnosed 3 weeks ago. He is soo smart and you could just see how flabbergasted the speech therapist was when trying to figure out what was going on and how to help. It took so long to be diagnosed because he would start to make sounds and say words and seem like he was making progress and then it would disappear. They also fought for a while that he could be autistic so we went for all of that testing and hearing testing and then of course we had this Corona shut down in the middle and we couldn't get him anywhere to get anything done. So we were informed that it was going to be a long process to get him speaking but it was doable and my heart just breaks for him and how much he'll struggle. I understand him fairly well actually but I'm with him 24/7. I'm even terrified to send him to public school for fear of the bullying because his is so severe he only says like three words but he has lots of sounds that I know what they are and he has tons more signals and self-made sign language. I feel like his best shot is at home with me until he is more verbal.

@@mikkilglass9896 Covid has been exceptionally hard... and totally agree on the home schooling for now. My wife is immune-copromised, and we have a 3 year old daughter as well, so are being extra vigilant which means bringing in therapists (or going to see therapists) just isn't possible until we know how to keep the family safe... *sigh* what a time to be alive.

I have worried about my daughter's relationship with my son who has global apraxia and autism. They are 3 and 4. You guys gave me hope! Thanks for doing this.

Thank you Jordan for making this video and others sharing your experience! You are such an inspiration! I am a resource specialist and I currently have a 1st grade student in my caseload who we suspect has Childhood Apraxia of Speech. Watching your videos give me hope and strength to know that with support, he may be able to speak just as well as you do.

Thank you so much for making and sharing this video. I have 2 kids 2 years apart my son the younger one has apraxia and my daughter has always been there to interrupt for him and defend him. I always wondered if she felt left out cause of everything we have to do for him. But after seeing this video I hope they are as close as you and your sister are when they get older. There is sometimes I have a hard time understanding my son and my daughter will interrupt him for me.

You are now a common reference in my family. My nephew just started therapy for speech apraxia. My mom, my sister, and I each found your videos independently and keep bringing you up in conversation, "Jordan talked about ..." "Jordan said ..." Thank you for making your videos and sharing your insight!

    Hey Jordan quick question,
Would you say your a very literal person?
I have a kiddo with AOS.
Because of the struggle with speech are you able to tell sarcasm or are you more literal?

None of the speech issues bother me.. not even one bit. BUT.. there's NO excuse for shitty grammar at your age!
Your improper/incorrect use of the word "whenever" is a common problem that seems to be getting worse every year! I noticed that it seems to be far more common among people from the southern U.S.
"Whenever" refers to an event or period of time that is repeated over the course of a much longer timeframe, aka, a common occurrence.
The proper way to use the word would be when you want to refer to a vague time period in time in that something else was also occuring.
For example, "Whenever I tap a spoon against the side of a tin can, the cats come running".
It's not referring to one time when this happened, your are telling the listener that ANY time you do this, the cats respond by coming to you, and this is something that you do often (more than just once, or even 2 or 3 times!)
You and your sister both used the word to reference a particular moment. And in this case you should have simply used the word "when" instead of "whenever".
To further illustrate why this use of the word whenever is just wrong (and silly sounding) is when you try to use it to describe a situation that can't POSSIBLY happen more than once!
For instance, if I use the word based purely on your rules, but insert a non-repeatable event or occurance, such as the death of a loved one, listen to how ridiculous it sounds:
Whenever my Dad died, I got his gold watch.
Using it that way, makes it sound as if my Dad has died more than once, and every time he dies I get another gold watch.
It just sounds silly, because it's improper! There is not now, nor has there ever been a time throughout history where that word has has multiple meanings, or has ever had this as an acceptable use case. It basically just ignorant slang at this point, a bad habit, that has been perpetuated from one person to another.
If you're talking about a singular event, or a specific time period in which something occurred, the correct word to use is "When". If you're referring to a generic time period in which a common occurrence takes place, use the word whenEVER.
