How to Heat Shrink Aluminium
Просмотров 16 тыс.3 года назад
This video covers how to heat shrink aluminium panels in order to remove high spots or reduce shape and stop 'oil canning'. Tools required: gas torch and slapper This method can be used on steel panels too - the steel can be heated to cherry red in order to get to the correct temperature. For other videos on metal working or old bangers please check out my channel. Thanks for watching!

A trip out to the Essex countryside to look for some crusty old bangers. Check out my channel for other videos on old cars, including my series on how to design and build a car from scratch or how to operate a steam engine. Don't forget to ask permission from the land owner before inspecting any derelict old cars. Thanks for watching!
Good demo
do you have to double de-clutch going up and down the box?
Best oxy ACC demo I've ever seen. And I should know... I've got 0 hours under my belt! 😂
Lol. Thanks!
Thank you for a wonderful video of a lovely car. I searched 'Bullnose Morris' as I'm reading 'Trouble in Nuala' by Harriet Steel. In the book, Police Inspector de Silva drives a blue Morris Cowley in 1930s Ceylon (modern Sri Lanka).
Thanks. Hope you enjoy the book!
Nice video, wonderful car!
Thanks Stefan
Seeing that these cars are at the same ish price as the car the engine is from makes it incredibly tempting. Time to not buy a car for a few years and hope i can get one of these beauties
They are a bargain and so much fun to drive. It's one of the few cars I regret selling on.
@@GasoliniASMR fingers crossed i can get one then
Would Map gas work instead of oxygen/acetylene?
Not too sure to be honest. Hopefully someone else may chime in....
One would have to be obsessed to be able to do this, something I can understand.
Nice work! Cool project!
Cheers!
I'mma somehow get myself a steam locomotive as soon as possible. When you first opened up the draincocks it felt like a dragon fucking breathing. I love these machines. I fucking want one.
One day I hope to join you!
would you say me please, what material the wings on this car are made of?
Mostly thin gauge steel. Some similar cars of the period used a thin fabric or rubber.
Fabulous, just came accross your video. The esasy way to copy the frame is to get the car scaned , it is well possible if the new owner will let you do it. Same as the body. Thanks for the video and in my opinion one of the greatest race car. With the typo63
Thanks! One day if it comes back to my friends workshop then I might be able to do that.
Thank you! So many gosh darn videos out there of people talking about the tools and how great they are, and yet leaving entry level folks like me wondering "how the heck to use them"
Thanks! I hope you get the chance to give it a try in the future.
My God. A triumph of the will and of the hands. You need to put it on display at Goodwood. I can just hear the discussions cropping up. "No, Harwood, Certainly not an Allard. I tell you. It was that maniacal Italian. He never resumed after war. What the HELL was his name!?"😅😅😅
Have thought about enquiring if they are planning an etceterini section!
They never sound happy until under load, that backlash "ting" gets me every time. Listening to them loaded up pulling an 8 bottom plow makes you realise just how quiet they are compared to a smelly diesel..
Très bonne vidéo, dommage que je ne l'ai pas vue avant d'emmener ma pièce à souder , j'aurais économisé 30€.
It’s tough to convey with words how difficult it is to actually do what he’s doing. Well done man
Thanks. I muddled through and slowly got a little better
Brazing seems like it's harder than Tig. I've never tried it but I'm trying to learn Every metal fuzing process possible.
New subscriber here!! I just came over from asciimation....I am really glad I did...Incredible work!!!
Thanks John. Much appreciated!
and it only burns 1 ton of coal to get to church
and forever ear damage
At least we didn't have to invade another country to fuel it.
Excellent video
Thanks!
ok
Been thinking about giving oxy/ace welding a try. I’m not trying to be a professional or anything mainly just for hobby stuff but I want to learn to weld and this seems like the hardest way but it’s the least involved way. I don’t need a fancy machine or anything. If I want to weld aluminum i need gas cylinders anyway. I can cut metal with the torch as well
It's tricky but worth a try. Need time and patience
I'm going to have to try this. I started making the panels for my Riley Brooklands in aluminium and over cooked the first one. Got one spot I over stretched I think. I am out of practice and I never had that much practice to start with! It's good enough to start making the other panels and gas welding it together but then I will need to tweak the shape before permanently attaching it to the timber frame.
Good luck!
We'd call this a mutt.
Step one: Buy a traction engine
Интересный механизм на низкопрофильной резине👍👍
Thanks for taking the time to make the video. Much appreciated ☺️👍
Thanks!
Is that trevor?
really well filmed - just excellent just watched it over again -- i know a bit of the feeling - as i own a G20 here stateside , but Like that - and as I said excellent cinematography
Thanks. This is one of the few cars that I wish I hadn't sold. Sweet, sweet car
Love this! You’re an artist too!
Thanks! Keep up the good work yourself!
What a superb video... Lovely country setting too 😊
Thanks!
Is it for sale?
Alas, I sold it a few years ago. There is some regret!
I was just reading a novel where a man in 1924 Ireland bought a Morris Bullnose. I googled to get a look at one. It's a beauty!😍
That's one of my favourite wheeling machine tricks, how you can smooth out really lumpy hammer blow stretched panels and they come out perfectly smooth with very little effort.
It is an amazing tool. An expert would be able to shape the panel from a flat sheet using a wheel.
Very interesting, thank you. I found your channel looking for aluminium welding tips. I have done if before, a few years ago on my Austin 7 but need a refresher for my new car, a Riley. To build the body for my Riley I modelled up the chassis I have in CAD then turned that into a 3D model and then designed the body on top of that until it looked right. I used superimposed photos of real cars all overlaid on top of each other to get the shape correct (no two 'originals' seem the same!). I then sectioned the model to get the profiles for the different frame stations. I was then able to print those out 1:1 and glue them to ash then then bandsaw them out. The frame is complete now and the car mechanically complete, am about to start on the aluminium panels hence the need to remember how the heck I did the gas welding on the last one!
Sounds fantastic! Good luck with your project. I really like Wray Schelin who often uses that full scale technique.
Cool, that sounds good. And, it's ripping ass.
excellent video!
So you got rid of a working Maserati engine to put in a Ford??? Why not an air cooled Volkswagen? Work harder!
The engine that came with it was a water cooled VW 4 cylinder with an Alfa cylinder head and Maserati cam cover grafted on - it was not reliable or easy to work on! An original Maserati engine would be about £60k to buy and £10k a year to run compared to the Ford engine which is about 10k to buy and £500 a year to run.
Cool
Can this same process be used on newer aluminum body cars and trucks?
Yes, the aluminium I used for my project is quite widely used and likely came from China
Is that standard gearing? Is revving quite hard however has great road speed for a single ag engine?
Very helpful!
I thought as soon as I saw this. That looks like Bernard's place.
He is a great chap!
A mechanical marvel! And the wonderful people who keep them running! They are loved! 😊
Richard is a great and honourable person!
What flux do you use for aluminum welding?
I use Super 6 Aluminium welding flux (Part no. 7520) or Sif Flux No.36
10/10 for for getting in there and doing it. mig/tig suppliers should buy this video to promote the modern electronic machines. 100 years ago it was all done with Oxy acet, so it can be done and you become a true craftsman when you master this skill
Thanks! I tried my best and am getting better.....
Incredible piece of equipment. I have a scale model very similar to this tractor. Looks quite dangerous to operate but man is it a work of art. 👍💯
Greetings, I work in the educational design department at Allstate Insurance. We are trying to reach out to see if we can use this video as part of our training. It is really good. Please let me know! Thank you.
Hi. Yes, that will be fine. Hope it is of some use!
You do a great job at what you do, but your video tells me that you really do not know what the dollies are meant for and should not be for educational videos. You get the job done, just not the correct way.
Thanks. I try my best. I did initially go on a course where I was told 'we do things the proper way here' but it was only looking at basic videos by amateurs that made me think I could achieve something.
yeah....he's only metal formed an entire car body out of steel....but I'm sure you know so much more.
You weld my my grandmother! 😂🤣 Actually, my grandmother didn't weld, but anyone who knows WWII history will get the joke.
